L'homework di questa settimana è dedicato alla descrizione di una Cultura Partecipativa di cui fai parte. Descrivila utilizzando gli indicatori di cui abbiamo discusso durante la lezione

La Cultura Partecipativa che ho scelto: la musica live su Second Life, di cui faccio parte pur non essendo per nulla musicista ;-)

Il caso: lo straordinario concerto live di fund raising per Project Children che si è tenuto all’Italian Mood il 21 febbraio 2008.

anansa pinazzo on stage 3/5th @2 pm slt Anansa Pinazzo: interprete con l'hobby della musica; laureata In Lingue e lett. Straniere con tesi sperimentale in Storia delle Musica. Affascinata dalla composizione computer aided, sperimenta con vari software suoni e campionamenti: utilizza Cakewalk, Cubase, Nuendo e i rispettivi plugin. Rimane affascinata da Acid Pro e inizia a manipolare loops. Compone sei album di cui uno viene ascoltato dai Prodigy (colonna sonora The Matrix) e giudicato BUONO e interessante. Utilizza anche una tastiera collegata via midi per aiutarsi nella composizione. Non si considera una musicista, ma una sperimentatrice di sonorità.

Norris Shepherd strolled into SL a few months ago... discovered people could actually play music here, and has been climbing up onto stages ever since.

A Canadian farm boy armed with an acoustic guitar, his voice, and the occasional bottle of homemade wine, he draws from an ecclectic collection of songs including folk, pop/rock, canadian indie and alternative. A few originals from a former life might also make their way into the shows.

Our dearest friend Mike will be again on stage today @2 pm slt!Mike is streaming from Hamburg/ Germany... yes Germany ;) He's been playing the guitar for about 17 years now. In RL he plays in a Band called Jazzmanix that plays very different things from Swing, Funk, Blues to "Rock".

In SL he plays his fantastic Fender Strat USA deluxe and earlier in the day his Yamaha electro acoustic guitar. Most of the songs he plays are intrumental,

but he tries to sing more and more songs for his audience. He plays a couple of songs from his favorite musician Eric Clapton, some

funky songs, a few slow instrumental softrock songs and some other rock songs.

L’Italian Mood (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Yudasin/23/54/33) , http://italianmood.blogspot.com/) è un club di SL dedicato principalmente ai concerti live. E’ uno dei rari casi di luoghi italiani su SL aperti al resto del mondo. Si è dato l’inglese come lingua ufficiale proprio per essere in grado di accogliere musicisti e spettatori di qualsiasi nazionalità.

Italian Mood for Project Children A benefit live gig will take place february 21st at the Italian Mood (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Yudasin/23/54/33) in association with the " West of Ireland" , a recognised 501(c)3 nonprofit organisation with both the US government and Linden Labs.

The aim of this event is raising funds for Project Children:Project Children was started in 1975 as a way to bring Catholic and Protestant children from Northern Ireland together. At the time the organization was founded, Northern Ireland was strewn with political strife and violence. Denis Mulcahy and his brother Pat, originally from County Cork and then New York, took action and founded Project Children.

Each summer since its inception, Project Children has brought children that show promising futures to the United States to live with host families. These children get to know each other and see that there is little difference between them. They learn that they can live together even with their differences and not only that, but actually become friends.

So far Project Children has brought over 14,000 children from Northern Ireland to the United States for summer vacations with more than 600 children per year now participating. Any donation that will be raised during the benefit show will help cover the cost of flights for these well deserving children.

Al concerto hanno partecipato ben 17 musicisti (o forse piu’?) che si sono alternati sul palco per oltre 5 ore. Merito delle reti di socializzazione di SL …

1. Basse barriere per il coinvolgimento e l’espressività

… e di Sandy Demina, napoletana verace e bravissima manager dell’Italian Mood, che quella sera ha superato se stessa nell’attivare tutte le reti di SL, coinvolgendo musicisti e pubblico in una serata irripetibile!

2. Presenza di supporti per creare e condividere le proprie creazioni con gli altri

SL rende possibili i concerti live come questo perché la musica arriva in streaming dallo studio dei musicisti fino al “luogo” (metaforico?) del concerto , dove ciascuno, “incarnato nel proprio avatar”, ha l’esperienza percettiva ed emozionale di partecipare ad un evento collettivo.

I prefer to use an hardware surface control like a mixer because it's more useful during a live SL performance. The input level on the soundcard mixer is set to a 0 dB value and I don't usually need to change it.With an external mixer (200$ value) you can add external instruments to your mix easily and control them with a unique interface.Mixing external and internal sourcesI use for my performance recorded tracks because it's quite impossible to play from home with a band. Too many problems (neighbours first of all).I normally use a sequencer (Cubase, Sonar, etc) for recorded tracks but you could use even wav/mp3 files. It's your choice. A sequencer gives you the opportunity to change something in your performance in real time.If you are going to use sound files I suggest you use the less compression is possible. This because your sound will have 2 software compressions:- first the conversion of external sources to digital sound- second the streaming encoding

Now you are ready to stream your sound !!! Remember that if you are using an external soundcard you have to select Soundcard Input in the Winamp Input options.Have fun !!!
