Gain the Advantage for 2017.

Continuing Education Credits for Certified Crop AdvisersAll locations are approved for continuing education credits for Certified Crop Advisers (CCAs). Credits awarded will depend on workshop sessions attended during the program. All topics are 1.0 credit. Program listings in this brochure use the following credit designations: CM–crop management, PM–pest management, NM–nutrient management, SW–soil and water management

Applicator Recertification for Iowa private pesticide applicatorsEach Crop Advantage meeting is approved for recertification for Iowa private pesticide applicators. Applicators must attend the entire meeting to receive recertification credit. The recertification fee for private pesticide applicators is included in meeting registration. Note: Commercial applicator recertification in categories 1A, 1B, 1C and 10 is offered for an additional fee at the Moravia (Honey Creek) location only.

Crop Advantage

80% of attendees said the information they received could increase profits $5 or more per acre on their farm. – post-meeting survey

Gaining the AdvantageIowa State University Extension and Outreach offers the Crop Advantage Series at 14 locations across Iowa during January 2017. Each year the Crop Advantage Series provides the latest research information on crop production.

Last year nearly 2,000 people attended a Crop Advantage meeting. Here are a few comments received following last year’s meetings.

Relevant information. Please keep these sessions going. I get more useful information from this than anything else I do. – Honey Creek

Iowa State staff are in touch with the ‘boots on the ground’ and did an excellent job. – Burlington

Excellent current information. – Waterloo

In one place, in one day, I can learn several different subjects from knowledgeable instructors, but most all good information for me to have on the farm. – Le Mars

Like the concurrent sessions. Let’s me choose different topics. – Moline

Excellent opening speaker. Perfectly met my expectations! – Fort Dodge

Solid information, up front and honest. Well organized. – Okoboji

Good speakers! They were entertaining, engaging, humorous, knowledgeable and personable. Gave us something you could take to the field, not just useless information like some meetings I’ve attended in the past. – Iowa City

Like the format that permits open question and answer interaction with knowledgable professionals. – Sheldon

Good opportunity to compare notes with ISU Extension specialists, colleagues and friends on topics of interest. – Ames

Very well organized and on schedule. Liked the booklet that included presentation write-ups. Very nice meeting! – Mason City

Always leave with a little more knowledge. – Atlantic

Herbicide resistance is an increasing problem for crop production. Iowa State University Extension field agronomists led Weeds Week programs in July 2016 to assist farmers and retailers in creating long-term, resilient weed management plans for their farms and customers. An online, self-study version of the course is in development.

WEEDS week

Great interaction.” – attendee at Nashua location

84% felt they were better able to design a

multiple-mode of action herbicide program as a result of attending the

program.

Land, climate and agricultural enterprises vary considerably from one area of the state to another. To find solutions to problems in each area and to study the impacts of regional differences, the Iowa Agriculture Experiment Station puts researchers and educators in the fields of research farms across Iowa. Farms near Ames are used for intensive studies and for teaching purposes.

Knowledge in Every FieldEach growing season farmers face unforeseen challenges. Extreme weather, unanticipated pests, unknown soil conditions- all these factors can interfere with producing an exceptional crop. Farmers contact field agronomists with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach asking for help to sort out crop issues and find ways to lessen their detrimental effect on yields.

Field agronomists are members of the ISU Extension and Outreach team of integrated cropping systems specialists who focus on how corn and soybean production interacts with soil, weather, cover crops, crop rotation and management practices and support farmers‘ use of data-driven technologies in precision agriculture.

To contact an ISU Extension field agronomist serving your area visit www.extension.iastate.edu or call your county Extension office.
