    Critical Reflection

In order to have good teaching and learning no one denies that the use of materials

gives a positive impact to pupil’s learning. Positively, materials give clear picture and

understanding throughout learning process. Even if the teacher uses a simplest materials

and resources such as textbook, it happens to be meaningful to the young learners.

Materials and resources in teaching is like the ingredients in cooking too. The food became

tastier as e put varieties of ingredients into cooking. !imilarly, if e add in many resources

and suitable materials to teaching, pupils ill engage actively and learning becomes

    meaningful.

"or the first activity, I have decided to design the materials hich suitable for mypupils and generates their thinking skills. !ince I as teaching #ear $, the topic as about

parts of the body. I started to think about the spelling activity hich they already had familiar

ith the ords orally and aurally. I believe that learning from playing games is one of the

best method to learn. Therefore, in this activity, the pupils had to make ords as many as

possible in pairs using the alphabet cards. !ets of alphabet cards can be made by riting

letters in grid on an %& sheet of paper, photocopied the sheet for as many sets anted,

laminated them and then cut out the letters. "inally, I placed the alphabet cards in different

envelopes. To avoid the alphabet cards to be mislaid or fell on the floor, I used different

colours and numbered the sets. %long the process, I did not encountered any problems

since all the materials are easy to be found. I kne that to have a meaningful materials,

teacher should produce clear pictures so that pupils ill motivated to learn.

The aim of the lesson as to practise spelling and made familiar ords of parts of the

body. 'hile planning a lesson plan using the template given, I had to consider the suitability

of materials and the pupil’s preferred mode of learning. I noted that the pupils ere

motivated to learn and easy to ork in pairs. (ot only that, they already kne about the topicand the language re)uired, so I ill take it as a good opportunity in a lesson. Moreover, I

had integrated the other language skills such as listening and speaking and also

implemented the high order thinking skills for the pupils in a lesson.

I started the lesson ith songs hich help them to recall the parts of the body they

had learnt previously. Then, I used the traditional techni)ue hich they have to listen and

follo the ords. "or me, it is important to read aloud repeatedly as it is the opportunity for

children to be familiar ith the ords. "or the production stage, I implemented the *igh

+rder Thinking !kills *+Ts- hich ill develop their critical thinking. Therefore, for the #ear

$ pupil’s level, I used forming the ords activity and matching the ords to the pictures. The

alphabet cards that have been created can be used for a variety of activities hich do not

take much time. It is also suitable for %lphabet ingo activity hich integrates /istening skill.

I realised that the materials should suits the level and it can be used in more than one

    activity.

The next task is to create four graphic organi0ers based on the four articles. /uckily,

e had the articles from the internet and from the books and each of us Maisarah and me-

took t o articles. %lthough e encountered personal problem, as e had to dropped out

(ormala ati- all of a sudden, I felt relief that finally me and my partner completed the task

successfully. In the article from Choosing and Using: Teaching and Learning Materials , I

realised that children no adays have come into contact ith massive prints, visuals and

multimedia materials in their daily lives. I also discovered that the internet sources such as#ou Tube, "acebook, 1oogle search engine and any other sources have pros and cons.

Therefore, parents, teachers and administrators should take actions and precautions to

ensure the pupils ill not expose to inappropriate sources hich are sexual harassing,

violence, demeaning or any source hich could risk person’s safety. The second article,

hich is about Art and Craft in Section 7 from the book 500 Activities for the Primary

Classroom stated that art and craft activities can be motivating and effective ay to develop

language skills ith children, making English come alive. *o ever, the art and craft activities

should be valid and effective to develop language rather than simply keeping children happy

and occupied ithout taking learning further.

"inally, I ould like to express my utmost gratitude to %llah for giving me the strength

and isdom to undertake a responsibility as a student of PP1 TE!/. I ould also like to

thank my partner for giving ideas as ell as cooperation and hard ork to complete all the

assignments. (ot to forget, T!/2333 lecturer Puan (orhai0a *amdan for her kno ledge and

ideas throughout the semester. /ast but not least, I ould like to thank my family for

providing me ith the support needed in order to continually push myself to succeed.
