    Critical Reading Task

    PREVIEW BOOK

    A. Front Matter1. The title says CONTROLLING PILOT ERROR, Communications. Its mean that this book

tells us about how the communication happens well for Pilot. Yes I can put it into my

own word. Yes its little showing what the selection about. Yes is a come on to hook me,

Im interested by the title of this book.

    2. There is a paper jacket, but it doesnt do such things as tell about contents, givereviewers comments, and just give a little selection from the materials. Any of these

things just bits to hook me, but doesnt really tell me about the book.

    3. The writer of this book is PAUL E. ILLMAN; yes he has the experience that connectedabout pilot. He is an active private pilot for over 50 tens year and he holds a certificate

with single-engine, commercial, and multi engine ratings. Mr. ILLMAN is a member of

the air craft owners and pilot association, The United States Pilots Associations, and The

Kansas Pilot Association. He has written The Pilots Air Traffic Control Handbook, The

Pilots Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge and The Pilots Radio Communications

Handbook. The writer of introduction of this book just gives the point of view that these

books lead us to begin a journey together toward greater knowledge, improved

awareness, and safer skies, and the authors has chosen for their interest and expertise

    in the given topic area.

    4. This book is published on June 1, 2001. The material just looks like not really updatebecause thats have been 12 years ago. I do not know exactly about the new things that

happened since the material came out, because this book is especially talks about the

foundations of safe light. But I think this book has increased my Knowledge base about

    radio communications for Pilot.

    5. This book is published by McGraw-Hill Companies. They have a good name in general, and they are well known as an American publicly traded corporation headquartered in

Rockefeller Center in New York City. Beside that, the companys name is taken from the

name of the president of this company that named James McGraw, on 1888.

    6. There is series introduction and Foreword; the author doesnt tell what he is trying todo. Because the writer of introduction and foreword is Tony Kern. They just tell me that

they used analyze the conditions before, during and after each case study.

    B. The Body1. The writers use usual vocabulary, but just there is a little aviation terminology for the

example of application. There is the words that I do not know, or not familiar. The

example word is bone fide, but I think that concrete word. They do not tell me the

    meanings of hard words.

    2. The material user-unfriendly. But they use a pattern that makes us easy tounderstand what the meaning of the word, and I think they help me to understand

the material just by using good headings but there are no notes to make me easy to

understand the material of this book.

3.4. The system that the writers use is by have the question in the first, besides that

there is the little summarizes their ideas at the beginning and then the narrative,

comments, and the last is conclusion in the every chapter of this book.

    5. The kinds of aids do the writers use is like drawings and there is photographs too.6. There is a list of references for further reading that we called Index.7. The writer is telling me about the utility radio communication for aviation, airspace,

airline operations, and the other things that connected with aviation. The ideas is the

things that I never heard so its sounds new for me. And the materials is hard to

understand for me as common person. So I need to do some extra work to get ready

    to read the material.

    8. Exactly I want to read about the topic, its not really something I like. It helps me toincrease my knowledge about the truth of the communication in aviation.

    C. The Back Matter1. There is a list of selected references. The kind of materials is called REFERENCES. The

references do fit the subject of the selection, because the name of the references is

Redefining Airmanship, McGraw-Hill. So its looks like have a connected with the

things that discussed in this book. And I can trust them, because the company that

published the references is same with the company that publishes this book. But i

know thats looks like they are not up to date if we look now, but if we look when

this book is released, they are enough up to date because the year of the bookreference is 2000, 1997.

    2. There is no glossary; just there is index and the story about the author.3. There is no an author index.4. There is no an appendix with more information in the end. Just there is one last

chapter that explains about the controllers in the aviation that conclusion they is

human too. Of course I understand that they are human too and no one is perfect in

    this whole world.
