CRITERION III : RESEARCH, CONSULTANCY AND EXTENSION
3.1 Promotion of Research
3.1.1 Does the university have a Research Committee which monitors and addresses
issues related to research ? If yes, what is its composition? Mention a few
recommendations which have been implemented and their impact.
Yes,
The University has the following committees to monitor and address various isses
related to research such as -
SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY COMMITTEE [SAC] which monitors and addresses
issues related with research, Post Graduate and Ph.D. programs. The SAC is
constituted by the University Administration comprising of experts in various
subjects of ayurveda, meets once every year for evaluation, recommendations and
suggestions for research areas and guidance for future research plans.
ACADEMIC COMMITTEE (AC) which monitor and addresses the issues related
with research and academic activities of the university, all university run research
and academic programs are under the strict perview of this committee.
Departmental Research Committees [DRC] of each post graduate department and
PGT-SFC cell of the IPGT&RA have separate independent which monitors and
addresses the issues related with Ph.D. programs. DRC is constituted as per the
approved norms of Ph.D. Regulations of the University, and guides the approved
Ph.D. research scholars as per Ph.D. Regulations
RESEARCH DEGREE COMMITTEE [RDC] which examine and recommends the
award of degree of Ph.D. with due recommendations of DRC.
The constituent colleges of the University, viz. IIAPS and SGAM have separate
Research and Project Committees to monitor and address the research related
issues of respective institutes.
The Department of Projects is a separate wing of the university to promote and
propagate research acumen in the campus. It has a separate Director, under whom
the activities are made. The research projects are invited from various institutes of
the campus and are evaluated primarily, then forwarded to sponsoring agencies for
financial grants and monitoring of the works.
Technical & Research Committee (TRC) of IPGT&RA coordinates the industry
sponsored and Intra Mural Research (IMR) activities and it monitors the research
projects.
IEC (Institutional Ethics committee) and IAEC (Institutional Animal Ethics
Committee, constituted and approved by CPCSEA, New Delhi) of IPGT&RA
approves and monitors the issues related with clinical and preclinical research
studies respectively. The clinical and preclinical research studies carried out in other
in-campus institutes of the university also come under the perview of this
committee.

The few recommendations of above committees implemented are as follows:
It is mandatory to register the clinical research trial in CTRI (Clinical Trial
Registry of India) for all PG and Ph.D. programs.
All the scholars encouraged publishing of research articles in reputed peer
reviewed and indexed journals, it is mandatory to have at least one research
publication related to their particular research work before submission of the final
thesis for PG and Ph.D. program.
The research scholars are supported with financial assistance such as registration
fee, travel grants etc. for attending various academic events such as
conferences/seminars for presentation of their research work.
The Formation of IEC, IAEC, are as per recommendation of SAC.
On recommendation of TRC, CTRI registration of various clinical research
projects is made mandatory; and due to active functioning of TRC, more and
more industry sponsored research projects are being carried out.
3.1.2 Does the institution have an institutional ethics committee to monitor matters
related to the ethics of inclusion of humans and animals in research?
Yes, IPGT&RA, a constituent institute under Gujarat Ayurved University has
Institutional Ethics committee (IEC) and Institutional Animal Ethics Committee
(IAEC, constituted and approved by CPCSEA, New Delhi) which give approval
and monitors the issues related with clinical and preclinical research studies
respectively. The clinical and preclinical research studies carried out in all „in-
campus institutes’ of the university come under the perview of these committees.

3.1.3 What is the policy of the university to promote research in its affiliated /
Constituent colleges?
The university has established a separate Department of Projects to promote and
propagate research acumen amongst the faculty and students of constituent and
affiliated colleges and institutes.
University has separate research grant amounting to Rs. One Crore en marked for
research activities.
IPGT&RA a constituent institute of the university has separate Technical & Research
Committee (TRC) to coordinate Intra Mural Research (IMR) and the industry
sponsored research activities. A separate Intra Mural Research Fund amounting to
Rs. One Crore each year, other than the regular research grants is enmarked for
faculty research projects. Till now , a total of 17 Intra Mural Research [IMR] projects
have been sanctioned from this grant, details as given in 3.2.6.
Research grant of Thirty thousand rupees is being provided for PG scholars and
Thirty five thousand rupees for Ph.D. research projects apart from fellowship. Some
other facilities such as sanction of „Duty leave‟, „On-duty leave‟ for research related
activities too are provided. The provision of travel assistance for collection of
research drug, research data, and presenting research papers in seminars and
workshops too are extended to research scholars.
University has a specific policy for approving the research centers for Ph.D. and
other research programs. The approved centers are listed below:
1. Vasu Research Center, Makarpura, Vadodara. Gujarat.
2. JS Ayurveda College, College Road, Nadiad, Gujarat.
3. Raja Ramdeo Anandilal Podar Ayurveda Cancer Research Institute, [a CCRAS
unit]

The following research organizations have applied for Research Centre approval,
the applications are in different stages of approval:

University has a specific policy for MoU with leading national and international
institutes / organizations working in the field of Ayurveda and allied sciences, the
details of same is given in 3.7.
The University and constituent colleges arranges regular
workshop/seminar/symposia/ training programs on various aspects of research for
promotion and propagation of research.
The University and constituent colleges regularly arranges the guest lectures of
eminent scientists / personalities to promote the research culture amongst the
students and faculty.
Capacity building exercise is being conducted from time to time by way of CME,
reorientation programme, and training on scientific writing provided at regular
intervals for up gradation of research methodology.
3.1.4 What are the proactive mechanisms adopted by the University to facilitate the
smooth implementation of research schemes/projects ?
a. Externally funded projects (both government and private agencies) :
* advancing funds for sanctioned projects.
* providing seed money.
* simplification of procedures related to sanctions / purchases to be made by the
investigators.
* autonomy to the principal investigator/coordinator for utilizing overhead
charges.
* timely release of grants.
* timely auditing.
* submission of utilization certificate to the funding authorities.
* writing proposals for funding.
* any training given for writing proposals.
University has established a separate department to look after Department of Research
Projects and TRC of the university give adequate attention for the preparation of the
project proposals and their submission to relevant agencies. Regular follow up are
made in the proposals for their fast sanction, implementation, smooth conduct and
completion followed by submission of final report and audited utilization certificate.
Total 17 (Industry sponsored) and 09 National agency sponsored projects have been
sanctioned to this University, details are given 3.2.6.
The Principal Investigators (PIs) of research projects have complete autonomy for
utilizing the research funds after approval of concerned authorities, following the codal
formalities. . Additionally the PIs are provided with imprest money of Rs. 5000/- for
contingencies under concerned project.
Regular hands on training programs, workshops and CME‟s are arranged by the
University on writing of research proposals. Faculty are also deputed to such programs
organized by other national agencies such as CCRAS, Institute of Public Health &
Research, and other universities etc.
Research scholars of the university are given training on writing of research proposals,
synopsis writing, final report drafting, writing of research articles etc. by the faculty,
and other invited eminent research personnel, the list of such programs organized is
given in 3. 1.6 &3.1.7.
b. University sponsored projects:

* Availability of access to online data bases.
University has started generating separate research grant (Seed Money) amounting to
Rs. One Crore enmarked for research activities.
IPGT&RA, a constituent institute of the university has separate Intra Mural Research
Fund amounting to Rs. One Crore each year, other than the regular research grants.
Each research scholar is provided with research grant of Rs. Thirty thousand for PG
and Rs. Thirty five thousand for Ph.D. level research work apart from fellowship and
other inhouse facilities. There are 20 stipandary seats every year for persuing Ph.D.
level research work.
The University library has access to internet and there is a separate IT room facilty, in
addition to the portals provided in each department, faculty and research scholars are
free access to online data bases.
3.1.5 How is multidisciplinary / interdisciplinary / trans-disciplinary research
promoted within the University?

* collaboration with national/international institutes / industries.
Most of the research projects are of interdisciplinary in nature, which involves pre-
clinical (Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology and
toxicology, Microbiology, Radiology, Pathology, Biochemistry and Modern aspects) and
Ayurveda clinical research studies.
Faculties of different disciplines are involved as Guide/ Co-guide, PI/Co-PI in the
concerned research work for the promotion of interdisciplinary research.
Many projects have association of faculty from MP Shah Medical College, leading
practitioners and also from other research organizations (CCRAS; Saurashtra
University, Rajkot; IIT, Mumbai; SICART, Anand, Gujarat; Microcare, Surat; Genecare,
Ahmedabad etc.).
AYURGenomics project of constituent institute of university is a unique joint
collaboration with CSIR-Institute of Genomics & Integrative Biology (IGIB), Govt. of
India, New Delhi.
University has collaboration with Gujarat State Bio Technology Mission [GSBTM] and
one research institute i.e. Marine Bio-Resources Center [MBRC] is functioning within
the university campus for research on marine bio resources.
Pharmacological Research Unit of CCRAS is functioning along with Pharmacology
Laboratory of IPGT&RA, a constituent institute of the university.
There are two research projects sanctioned from National Medicinal Plants Board
[NMPB] for research on medicinal plants under interdisciplinary research activity.
Faculty members from the University are actively involved in Pharmacopeia committee
for Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India and Ayurvedic formulary of India, a national
level activity of Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India.
Senior faculty members from the University are actively involved in different research
work with Indian Council of Medical Research [ICMR].
The university has also collaboration with Sports University, Gandhinagar; Children‟s
university, Gandhinagar, Sanskrit University, Somanath, Saurashtra University, Rajkot
etc. as detailed in 3.7.

research publications [3.4] and improved quality of research work, inflow of projects
and project related funds from various national and international agencies, and
industries.
WHO has designated IPGT&RA, a constituent research institute of the university as
WHO Collaboration Center for Traditional Medicines (Ayurveda) for the years 2013-
2017.
Advanced Centre for Yoga Eduation & Research [ACYER] started after the visit of the
Director, Morarji Desai national institute of yoga naturopathy education and Research,
New Delhi.

3.1.8 What percentage of the total budget is earmarked for research? Give details of
heads of expenditure, financial allocation and actual utilization.
The amount of research grant utilized for various research projects under different
departments of constituent institutes varies as per the need and requirement of
individual projects. University has separate research grant amounting to Rs. One Crore
earmarked for these research activities. A sum of Rs. 3,38,446/- has been granted to Sri
Gulabkunverba Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, Jamnagar for research purposes in the year
2014-2015.
The total budget of IPGT&RA is en-marked for research activities including clinical and
pre-clinical studies; 100 % utilization is done in the same. On an average more than 25%
of the total budget of IPGT&RA are spent on exclusive research heads other than
routine establishment and hospital expenditures, details are as per below:

IPGT&RA has a separate Intra Mural Research Fund amounting to Rs. One Crore each
year, other than the regular research grants, to be distributed among the different
teaching and laboratories of the institute for IMR projects, the amount of grant
distributed is given in 3.2.6.

Yes, university promote research in constituent colleges, the university has separate
research grant amounting to Rs. One Crore en-marked for the research activities of
constituent and colleges for conduct of research works.

Yes, the University and constituent colleges encourage research by awarding SRF, JRF
and Research Associate ship. JRF and Research Associate ships are available through
IMR and TRC research programmes of IPGT&RA and university sponsored research
projects.
Further, a good number of research students are awarded research fellowships from
various national funding agencies. The students of various Departments regularly
receive fellowships from CSIR, CCRAS, NMPB and other central / state government.
University encourages fresh PG and Ph. D. degree holders to apply for these research
posts.

Indian Council of Cultural Relations scheme of Govt. of India.

3.1.11 What percentage of faculty have utilized facilities like sabbatical leave for
pursuit of higher research in premier institutions within the country and abroad?
How does the University monitor the output of these scholars ?
The university has provision of sabbatical leave for study and academic purposes for
teachers on permanent role for at least 5 years, which may be availed two times in
service period, each period not extending for more than 1 year, subject to approval of
competent authority (PG Board / Syndicate – Vice Chancellor). However this facility is
not used by any teacher till date, since university itself is the Centre for excellence in
Ayurvedic studies globally, and all facilities required for research is available in the
campus itself. On the other hand scholars from other institute and country visit this
campus for this purpose.
3.1.12 Provide details of national and international conferences organized by the
University highlighting the names of eminent scientists/scholars who participated in
these events.
The details of conferences / seminars / training /symposia/CME etc. are already
enlisted under 3.1.6.

3.1.13 Mention the initiatives of the University to facilitate a research culture in the
below mentioned areas:

University has been taking initiatives in inculcating research culture and attitude
among the faculty and scholars since its inception. Every year programs to develop
research culture are organized by the university as well as constituent institutes in the
campus, which are open to all. During the foundation days of the university (i.e. 5th
January), Sri Gulabkuverba Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya (1st July), IPGT&RA (20th July)
and IIAPS (1st August), the respective establishments regularly arrange the scientific
programs which help in this target. The list of such activities are given in 3.1.6 and
3.1.7.
IPGT&RA, a constituent institute under Gujarat Ayurved University has IEC
(Institutional Ethics committee) and IAEC (Institutional Animal Ethics Committee,
constituted and approved by CPCSEA, New Delhi) which give approval and monitors
the issues related with clinical and preclinical research studies respectively. The clinical
and preclinical research studies carried out in all „in-campus institutes’ of the
university come under the perview of these committees.
Most of the research projects are of interdisciplinary in nature, which involves pre-
clinical (Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology and
toxicology, Microbiology, Radiology, Pathology, Biochemistry and Modern aspects) and
Ayurveda clinical research studies.
Faculty of different disciplines are involved as Guide/ Co-guide, PI/Co-PI in the
concerned research work for the promotion of interdisciplinary research. Many projects
have association of faculty from MP Shah Medical College, leading practitioners and
also from other research organizations (CCRAS; Saurashtra University, Rajkot; IIT,
Mumbai; SICART, Anand, Gujarat; Microcare, Surat; Genecare, Ahmedabad etc.).
AYURGenomics project of constituent institute of university is a unique joint
collaboration with CSIR-Institute of Genomics & Integrative Biology (IGIB), Govt. of
India, New Delhi.
University has collaboration with Gujarat State Bio Technology Mission [GSBTM] and
one research institute i.e. Marine Bio-Resources Center [MBRC] is functioning within
the university campus for research on marine bio resources. Pharmacological Research
Unit of CCRAS is functioning along with Pharmacology Laboratory of IPGT&RA, a
constituent institute of the university. The university has also collaborated with Sports
University, Gandhinagar; Children‟s university, Gandhinagar, Sanskrit University,
Somanath, Saurashtra University, Rajkot etc. as detailed in 3.7.
University promotes the translational research too; faculty and scholars are encouraged
to undertake research topics of high translational value. The fundamental principles of
Ayurveda are converted to modern scientific language with the help of specially
developed research models, especially in the experimental research work; the models
developed for evaluation of „Deepana Pachana activity‟, evaluation of drug action
through „Nasya and Basti route in experimental animals‟ et. are some outstanding
works.
A series of Research methodology lectures are arranged every year by eminent
personalities in the field. The Research methodology has been included in the syllabus
of BAMS and MD first year of CCIM new syllabus.
Under graduate students and internees are encouraged to undertake minor / short term
research projects, health surveys, etc. as part of the curriculum of BAMS.
Swasthavritta dept. promotes visit to various public establishments such as Primary
Health Care and Community Health Centers, Old age home etc. as part of
epidemiological study.
Post graduate scholars are encouraged to do the Data collection, data mining etc. as part
of their dissertation work, and also as part of specific department. A special series of
lecture on Bio statistics is arranged for post graduate scholars of IPGT& RA .
All students, research scholars and faculty are encouraged to participate in various
programs / conferences etc. of scientific aptitude, they are provided with duty leave, on
duty leave, travel assistance, financial assistance in registration etc. depending upon the
case.
University and its constituent institutes support the publication activity and IPGT&RA
is publishing a peer reviewed journal AYU, which is one of its unique kind with ISSN:
0974 8520 Print) and 0976-9382 (ePrint), indexed in PubMed and other international
indexing, having international acceptance (www.ayujournal.org). In additional to this,
most of the scientific events hosted by the university and its constituent institutes are
published in the form of abstract book, souvenir, scientific reports and also
commemorative literary volumes.
The publication of the research works and its output of dissertation and also other
subjects of concern are made mandatory at both Postgraduate and Ph.D. level.
Publication in peer reviewed and indexed journal with impact factor fetch higher score
in the Performance based career indexing of faculty members, this provision of scoring
in the gives recognition of publication to the faculty members.
University has initiated the process of awarding best teacher and such awarding for
best performances of faculty members.
The faculty members of the university are also provided with travel grants for attending
national and international seminars within India subject to two per year along with
registration fee; participation in overseas conferences are also promoted by the
university.

The University constituent institutes have sufficient facilities of R& D for ayurvedic
product development. The Rasashastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana Department including
Drug Research of IPGT&RA is mainly engaged in research activity pertaining to
Ayurveda drugs. The department has developed many new dosage forms of classical
Ayurveda drug combinations such as granules, ointments, paste, tablets & capsule etc.
Modification of many processes of Ayurveda preparations has been developed and
Standard Operating Procedures and standardization of Standard Operating Procedures
are being conducted under this department.
University provides consultancy services in many headings. Faculty members of
different departments provide expert consultancy in respective areas without any
monetary benefits. The areas of consultancy include product development, product
standardization, pre-clinical studies, clinical consultancy and publication support.
University Pharmacy has developed a primary health care home remedy kit of
Ayurveda. Many products were prepared for research purpose in this department of
the university; it also supplies the in-house requirement of the medicines of university
campus hospitals. Journal of American Medical Association, JAMA controversial drug
i.e. certain metallic preparations (Bhasma) of Ayurveda are prepared in the Pharmacy
of the University, and tested for its safety study by Govt. of India (CCRAS).
The University School of continuing education in Ayurveda has developed a „Gruh
Ayurved Kit‟, for home based primary health care.
Indian Institute of Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Sciences [IIAPS], the first Ayurvedic
Pharmaceutical Institute have developed many ayurvedic formulations and herbal
cosmetics on modern concept such as Hair Oil, Soap, Shampoo, Face packs, etc.
On demand from the District Administration, the University Pharmacy has developed
and supplied special decoctions for prevention and cure of epidemic outbreak of Swine
flu and chicken guinea and a wide spread prevention drive was carried out in various
parts of the city of Jamnagar and district.
The department of Kaumarabhritya, IPGT&RA has developed a special nutrient biscuit
“Poushtika biscuit”, which was subjected to pilot clinical evaluation in school going
children at the institute adopted Konza village, Jamnagar district.
University promotes the entrepreneurship skill of its students. The students of BAMS,
after completion of the stipulated period of the course including internship, directly
enter into the medical practice field successfully with their own clinical establishments,
hospitals, Panchakarma, Ksharasutra hospitals etc. The post graduates of the university,
especially from the specialities of Rasashastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana, M.Pharma. (Ayu)
have established their own production unit of Ayurveda and allied health care
products, which highlights the skill of entrepreneurship they received during their
training period. Many students from IIAPS have established their own pharmacy and
Ayurveda medical stores with success.
Institutes organize guest lectures by eminent alumni of the university, heads of leading
pharmaceutical companies etc. for instigating entrepreneurship skills among students.
Faculty members too are deputed to Entrepreneurship training programs at
Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Ahmedabad, who in turn train the
students.
Students of different constituent institutes are encouraged to organize scientific, cultural
and social programs by their own with guidance from faculty, which helps them to
develop social and communication skills.
Marine Bio Resources Center (MBRC) functioning within the university campus offer
ample of opportunities to research scholars in developing skills of operating the
modern bio technology instrumentations related to work at genomic and proteomic
level. The CSIR-IGEB sponsored Ayurgenomic research center at IPGT&RA too provide
such opportunity to the faculty and research scholars.
The bhasma preparation of Ayurveda pharmaceutics itself is a nano-science technology,
IPGT&RA a constituent institute of the university has carried out many outstanding
research works on Bhasma preparation in collaboration with IIT, Mumbai, SICART,
CCRAS, GENECARE, Ahmedabad etc. leading national research organizations. The
Pharmacognosy Laboratory and Dravyaguna Department of IPGT&RA carried out
DNA FINGERPRINTING of many medicinal Plants and created records of the same.
The university has facilities of plant harvesting, green house, net house and a medicinal
plant nursery at Sasoi Garden.

Naturopathy ?
Yes, University and its constituent institutes encourage and promote experimental
research in Yoga and Naturopathy. University has an exclusive institution for Yoga and
Naturopathy viz. Maharshi Patanjali Institute for Yoga Naturopathy Education and
Research [MPIYNER] within the campus and one more Yoga and naturopathy institute
is affiliated to the university [Morarji Desai Institute of Naturopathy & Yoga Sciences,
Vadodara]. In the post graduate diploma in Yoga & Naturopathy [PGDYN], students
have to select a research problem and work on it and have to submit a dissertation work
as part of curriculum, Special camps are also conducted on specific diseases and the role

regulates the curriculum and syllabus of Yoga and Naturopathy education and research
in the university.

3.2.1 How many departments of the University have been recognized for their
research activities by national / international agencies (ICMR, DST, DBT,
WHO, UNESCO, AYUSH, CSIR, AICTE, etc.) and what is the quantum of

achieved by this recognition.
The University and its constituent institutes have been recognized by following national
and international agencies:
1. Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India – IPGT&RA is fully funded by this ministry.
2. CSIR- IGEB, New Delhi – Trisutra Ayurgenomic Research Unit, IPGT&RA is
fully funded by this national agency.
3. Pharmacology Research Unit attached with Pharmacology Laboratory of
IPGT&RA is fully funded by CCRAS, New Delhi.
4. Marine Bio Resource Center unit in the university is fully funded by GSBTM,
Govt. of Gujarat.
5. Panchagavya Clinical Registry managed by the university is funded by Gujarat
Gauseva and Gochar Vikas Board, Govt. of Gujarat.
6. World Health Organization has recognized IPGT&RA as a collaborative Center
for its activities on traditional medicines – Ayurveda [WHO Collaborative Centre
for Traditional Medicines (Ayurveda)].
7. IPGT&RA, Gujarat Ayurved University is recognized as a SIRO (Scientific and
Industrial Research Organization) by DST, Govt. of India.
8. All clinical trials are registered with the Clinical Trial Registry of India [CTRI], a
constituent organization of ICMR.
Outcomes:
1. Ayurgenomic Research work has opened a new area and dimension to the
Ayurveda fundamental research at molecular level – DNA correlate with the
Prakriti of an individual, a total of 1250 patients / individuals screened for
genomic profile of prakriti.
2. The recognition of university constituent institute IPGT&RA as WHOCC for
traditional medicines (Ayurveda), only one such Center in the world itself is the
breakthrough outcome.
3. Due to CTRI registration of clinical trials, which is linked to Clinical Trial
Registry of WHO, the institution and university is receiving worldwide
recognition.

3.2.7 What are the financial provisions made in the University budget for supporting
students' research projects?
Preclinical and/or clinical Researches are mandatory for PG (MD (ayu), MS (Ayu),
Mpharma (Ayu) and MSc (medicinal Plants Sciences) and Ph.D. programmes. Each
research scholar is provided with research grant of Thirty thousand rupees for M.D.
(Ayu)/MS (Ayu) scholars, three thousand rupees for M.Pharm (Ayu) and MSc
(Medicinal Plants Sciences) and Thirty five thousands rupees for Ph.D. (Ayu) research
projects apart from other research facilities provided by the Institute. The details of
amout spent on these are shown in financial expernditure of the respective institutes.
There are twenty stiepandary seats for persuing Ph.D research work every year.
The Ph.D. Scholars from Self-financing Course of IPGT&RA are provided with
fellowships under various TRC and other projects of the institute, subject to availability.
3.3 Research Facilities
3.3.1 What efforts have been made by the University to improve its infrastructure
requirements to facilitate research? What strategies have been evolved to meet
the needs of researchers in emerging disciplines?
Gujarat Ayurved University is first of its kind dedicated to Ayurveda Education and
Research, established in 1967 under an Act in the Assembly of State of Gujarat (Gujarat
Ayurved University Act, 1965). The Post Graduate Teaching and Research Institute and
Central government establishment of Central Research Centre for Ayurveda were
merged into this University for administrative purposes, now the IPGT&RA is an
exclusive Institution under the University dedicated for Teaching and Research in
Ayurveda.
Every year, new infrastructures are created to cater the needs of research activities such
as IPGT&RA Institution Building (new), OPD building, IPD building expansion, new
Panchakarma Bhavan, new laboratories, upgradation of central animal facility,
development of herbal garden at University campus as well as at extension campus of
Sasoi, extension of Pharmacy, Central library with provision of 1+ 8 (9) floors, new
building for International Centre for Ayurvedic Studies (ICAS).
Procurement of new and advanced instruments such as digital X-ray, sonography
colour doplar, auto analyzer, cell counter, operating microscope, A scan machine, etc. in
the concerned sections, RIFD system in library, High Profile Thin Layer
Chromatography, High Profile Liquid Chromatography, Atomic Absorption
Spectrophotometer, Flash Chromatography, non-invasive blood pressure system,
ELISA reader & washer, Double Beam Spectrophotometer etc. have been done. All the
constituent institutions have ample of infrastructure to carry out and promote the
clinical and pre-clinical research.
The university central library has well equipped IT center for students and faculties
with LAN internet facilities, it is extended to departments and other places also. The
research data generated by research activities of the university are published in the
journal „AYU‟(a university publication indexed in PUBMED and other indexing
agencies), and other research journals regularly, in addition to this, the complete PG
research work from year 2000 to 2015 are available in the form of CD/ DVD.
Most of the researches are of inter disciplinary in nature and the students are allowed to
learn the techniques, laboratory skills, instruments and experimental protocols. The
environment at the campus is very conducive for the research and is appreciated by
several national and international agencies. IPGT&RA, a constituent institute of the
University has been accorded as the best Ayurveda teaching and research institute by
Ministry of AYUSH, GoI in its internal evaluation process.
These facilities are continuously upgraded as per the demand of time. Ayurveda and
allied subjects like Yoga, Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical and Medicinal plant sciences have
very rich cultural and regional influences due to existence of diverse practices, and this
gives further boost to global propagation of Yoga and Ayurveda science.
The details of infrastructure developed during last four years are given in criteria 4.
3.3.2 Does the University have an Advanced Central Research facility? If yes, have
the facilities been made available to research scholars? What is the funding
allocated to the facility?
The university‟s constituent institutes have separate independent laboratories as per the
need of the teaching & research programs according their courses. IPGT&RA has 6
modern laboratories (Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry,
Pathology, Biochemistry, Microbiology) with central animal house facility are well
equipped and updated with necessary instruments and equipment for carrying out
clinical and pre-clinical research activities.
The University has a central Pharmacy (pharmacy department) cater the needs of
research drugs required by research scholars and institutes.
The Marine Bio-resources Center (MBRC, under GSBTM, Govt. of Gujarat), established
in the university campus for collaborative research works has advanced
instrumentations for research activities of the university. The Ayurgenomic research
Laboratory too is well equipped with instrumentation required for genomic separation
etc. and open to all related research activity of the university.
All these research facilities are made available to faculties and research scholars of the
university as per the need of research topic.
The required funding is made in the annual budget of each institute and details are
given in 6.4.
3.3.3 Does the University have a Drug Information Centre to cater to the needs of
researchers? If yes, provide details of the facility.
As on now, the university do not have a separate designated Drug Information Centre,
but, the efforts are on to creating such center in the university campus. The museum of
herbal drugs with authenticated dry drug samples and herbarium sheets are
maintained in the university departments. Pharmacological and phytochemical
properties of drugs in the form of compilations are available at IPGT&RA. Probable
ADR of certain herbo-mineral drugs and their management in the form of booklet is
available in PPRC for ASU drugs, IPGT&RA. Further, University has a large bank of
clinical data, good collection of manuscripts, and books, the Central Library maintains
these resources for the use of research scholars. IPGT&RA is exclusive constituent
institute caters the needs of research, not only to the university, but to Ayurveda science
at national and international level. Many national and international scholars visit the
university at regular intervals. At institutional and departmental level, senior faculty
member looks after providing the necessary information related to research at the
campus as well as at other institutions.
3.3.4 Does the University provide residential facilities (with computer and internet
facilities) for research scholars, post-doctoral fellows, research associates,
summer fellows of various academies and visiting scientists
(national/international)?
Yes,
University has the residential facilities with internet for research scholars, international
scholars and visiting scientists on the campus. There is a separate International Hostel
and International Center to cater to the need of visiting International scholars and
scientists. University has a well-furnished Guest House with 32 rooms [Air-conditioned,
non A/C, VIP, 6 VVIP rooms, 1 A/C dormitory, 1 non-A/C dormitory] for the stay of
visitors, scientists from both National and International level with in campus.
Postgraduate Boys hostel with 100 rooms has separate hub for internet provided in the
common room. Postgraduate women‟s hostel too has 59 rooms with common kitchen
and other amenities.
International hostel has 30 family accommodations [Room with attached bath &
kitchen] and other facilities.
In addition to this, family accommodation is also provided in the staff quarters of the
university, subject to availability.
3.3.5 Does the University have centres of national and international
recognition/repute? Give a brief description of how these facilities are made
use of by researchers from other laboratories.
IPGT&RA, one of the constituent institute of Gujarat Ayurved University is the best in
Ayurveda Teaching & Research institute as per AYUSH Ministry, scholars and
scientists from various parts of India and abroad approach regularly for their research
works. IPGT&RA, is recognized as WHO Collaborative Center for Traditional
Medicines (Ayurveda), only one of its kinds in the world for Ayurveda. University is
recognized as SIRO by Ministry of Science & Technology; IPGT&RA is recognized in
the National Pharmacovigilence Resource Centre in ASU drugs.
The Botanical Garden Department of the University along with Dravyaguna
Department of PG and UG institutes has developed and maintains one of the best
medicinal plants garden and nursery, for research and propagation of medicinal
plants.
The above mentioned research facilities are being used by the researchers on the
campus and off the campus to carry out research in their respective fields. Some of the
reputed institutions using our research facilities are MP Shah Medical College,
Jamnagar, Akhandanada Govt. Ayurveda College, Ahmedabad, Saurashtra University,
Rajkot, CCRAS, New Delhi, GSBTM, Gandhinagar, Gujarat State Forest Development
Corporation, Govt. of Gujarat, DKV College, Jamnagar etc. Other universities and
institutes too use the facility of the University for Research Related Works.
The MoU partners of the university from foreign countries such as Reidman institute,
Italy, Premna institute, Argentine visit the institute and avail short term internship
facility for their scholars.
3.3.6 Clinical trials and research * Are all the clinical trials registered with CTRI
(Clinical Trials Research of India)? * List a few major clinical trials conducted
with their outcomes.
Yes, the clinical trials conducted in the university are registered in CTRI, and it is made
as a policy decision by the university to make it compulsory to get CTRI registration for
all clinical trials and without CTRI registration, the research work will not be forwarded
for evaluation.

About the Journal
'AYU' – An International Quarterly Journal of Research in Ayurveda, is published
quarterly by Institute for Post Gduate Teaching & Research in Ayurveda, Gujarat
Ayurved University, Jamnagar. The full text of journal is accessible on website
www.ayujournal.org. The journal allows free access(open access) to its contents and
permits authors to self-archive final accepted version of the articles on any OAI-
compliant institutional / subject-based repository. The journal does not charge for
submission, processing or publication of manuscripts and for color reproduction of
photographs. Started in 1964, the journal has continuously contributed for the research,
education and propagation of Ayurveda on the national as well as international
platform.
Scope of the Journal
The journal is devoted to the publication of original articles on the utilization of
knowledge of Ayurveda and other traditional systems of medicines. The spectrum of
coverage is broad, encompassing all eight divisions of Ayurveda including clinical
researches in Kayachikitsa (General medicine), Shalya Tantra (Surgery), Shalakya Tantra
(ENT & Ophthalmology),Stri Roga Prasuti Tantra(Gynecology & Obstetrics), Kaumar
Bhritya (Pediatrics); Drug researches in Dravyaguna (Pharmacology), Rasa Shastra &
Bhaishajya Kalpana (Ayurvedic Pharmaceuticles), Literary researches in Maulika
Siddhanta & Samhita (Basic Principles) along with History, Descriptions of herbal
remedies, useful for the treatment of human aliments etc. It also deals with clinical and
pharmacological evaluation of herbs, minerals, metals and animal products, validation
of food remedies, phytochemistry, ethnomedicine, survey of medicinal plants,
nutraceuticals, drug standardization, biotechnology, agriculture, horticulture,
pharmacovigilance etc. relating to medicinal plants. AYU also accepts standard review
articles based on basic principles of Ayurveda, newly introduced diseases with their
updated scientific knowledge in contemporary sciences. The guidelines can also be

3.4.3 Does the university publish any reports/compilations/clinical round-ups as a
part of clinical research to enrich knowledge, skills and attitudes?
Yes, university and its constituent institute IPGT&RA regularly publish the
monographs of studies conducted at the institute. A total of three monographs have
been published.
PG and Ph.D. scholars submit their clinical research work in hard bound form which is
a published document available in the central library and concerned department as
listed below:

IPGT&RA has prepared clinical research project reports under TRC and IMR schemes
and are submitted to sponsoring agencies.
1. Efficacy and tolerability of Arshonyt Forte Tablet and Ointment in treatment of
Ano-Rectal disorders
2. A study to evaluate the comparative efficacy & safety of syrup Spasma,
Montelukast and low dose Corticosteroid inhaler in children with mild to
moderate persistent bronchial asthma
3. A clinical stuy on Ardhavabhedaka – Maigrine and its management with Laghu
Sutashekhara Rasa and Brihat Dashamoola Taila nasya.
4. Evaluation of clinical efficacy of Bonton active granules in the management of
osteoporosis (asthi majja kshaya)
5. Evaluation of clinical efficacy,and safety of Dazzle capsule in the management of
Rheumatoid Arthritis (Amavata)
6. The Role of Yoga Therapy in the management of Osteo Arthritis of the Knee
(Janusandhivata) in Geratric Care
7. The Role of Yoga Therapy in the management of Bronchial Asthma
(TamakShwasa)
With the collaboration of WHO country office India, IPGT&RA has prepared three
documents which are helpful in clinical research studies, viz.

3.4.7 What is the official policy of the university to check malpractices and plagiarism
in research? Mention the number of plagiarism cases reported and action
taken.
The policy of the University with regards to malpractice and plagiarism are in line with
the norms of the nodal agency in medical education. The issue of plagiarism is taken at
the first instance at the departmental level through Departmental Research Committee,
which is well structured for scrutinizing the research proposals of the prospective
research candidates. Further candidates have to present the research proposal before
the faculty and students for suggestions and improvements. The faculty members have
to follow the code of conduct in this regards; and all faculty members are abided by the
ethical conduct in this regards. Till date, there has been no case reported under the
plagiarism issue. AYU journal use the standad software for checking the plagiarism.
3.4.8 Does the institution promote multi/interdisciplinary research? If yes, how many
such research projects have been undertaken and mention the number of
departments involved in such endeavors?
Most of the research projects are of interdisciplinary in nature, which involves pre-
clinical (Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology and
toxicology, Microbiology, Radiology, Pathology, Biochemistry and Modern aspects) and
Ayurveda clinical research studies. The number of postgraduate and doctoral research
projects as listed under 3.4.6.
Faculties of different disciplines are involved as Guide/ Co-guide, PI/Co-PI in the
concerned research work for the promotion of interdisciplinary research.
Many projects have association of faculty from MP Shah Medical College, leading
practitioners and also from other research organizations (Saurashtra University, IIT,
Mumbai, SICART, Microcare, Surat, Genecare, Ahmedabad, Institute of Applied
Dermatology, Kasaragod, Gau Vigyan Anusandhan Sansthan, Jamnagar etc.).
AYURGenomics project of constituent institute of university is a unique joint
collaboration with CSIR-Institute of Genomics & Integrative Biology (IGIB), Govt. of
India, New Delhi.
University has collaboration with Gujarat State Bio Technology Mission [GSBTM] and
one research institute i.e. Marine Bio-Resources Center [MBRC] is functioning within

Pharmacological Research Unit of CCRAS is functioning along with Pharmacology
Laboratory of IPGT&RA, a constituent institute of the university.
There are two research projects sanctioned from National Medicinal Plants Board

IPGT&RA, a constituent institute of university has a unique practice of weekly seminar
on research projects by each and every research scholar, on department rotation system.
The best presentations are awarded with certificate and prize at the end of every
academic session.
During seminar /conference /workshop etc. organized by the university, best research
papers presented are recognized and awarded with certificate and prize.

The University encourages the researchers to participate in such activities and
successful researchers are facilitated with incentives for the faculty in this regard:

3.5 Consultancy
3.5.1 What are the official policy/rules of the university for structured consultancy?
List a few important consultancies undertaken by the university during the
last four years.
The consultancy policy of the university is under the TRC activities of IPGT&RA, Viz.
Consultation services under paid: TRC also offers consultation services of faculty
members and laboratory heads and other technical staff for various projects and
activities being held or proposed to be conducted outside Gujarat Ayurved University.
The following will be the guidelines for such services:
- the agency requesting consultancy services should apply in the prescribed
format giving all details of the project or activity
- The name of expert whose services are required to be clearly mentioned in the
application form if it is specific to expert person.
- TRC may also suggest the name of person/s for the service
- If accepted by TRC and the selected persons, the requesting agency shall have to
pay the TRC charge of Rs. 5000/- [Rupees five thousand only] as per norms fixed
by TRC.
- The consultancy charges of 5% of total project cost will be payable to Director,
IPGT&RA, who in turn will pay the Consultant/s his/her due share i.e. 2% of
the amount received and the rest 3% will be Institutional charges.
- All the expenditures such as TA, DA, local hospitality, transportation etc. and
tour expenditures of the consultants shall be borne by the sponsorer at actual, not
less than the institutional norms.
- The out station period of the consultant which he/she has spent for
project/activity purpose may be treated as ‘Duty leave’, however it should not
exceed the limits prescribed by the institute.
Under TRC activities, many consultancies services have been carried out to Ayurveda
drug industry as listed in 3.2.6.
Consultation services under free of charge/without honorarium: The hospital services
viz. OPD, IPD and other procedures [Operative, Panchakarma, Kriyakalpa etc.] of the
university are free of cost to all in both hospitals i.e. UG Chikitsalaya and PG research
Hospital. Per day on an average 1500 patients take the benefits of these free services
from the university. Patients are provided with free of charge mediciens for seven days
from the hospital pharmacy at OPD and IPD patients are given free Drug, Diet and
Dress for their stay period in the hospital. The free medical services are offered through
health service camps, extension OPD at various places in Jamnagar and near by areas
too.
Consultation services under concessional rate: The laboratory investigations such as
pathology, biochemistry, radiology, and other diagnostic services are provided to needy
patietns on recommendations of consultants at approved concessional rate by the
university.
3.5.2 Does the university have an industry university partnership cell? If yes, what is
its scope and range of activities?
Yes, the TRC cell of IPGT&RA looks after the industry sponsored research activities, in
addition to this university has a separate Department of Projects which monitors the
industry and university Research activities. Under the TRC activities many industry
sponsored projects are received and being conducted at IPGT&RA, following the TRC
regulations. The list of such projects conducted are given in 3.2.5. Till date 18 projects
are completed/ongoing and 5 projects are in process of initiation. The department of
projects has initated 2 major projects under NMPB sponsorship as listed in 3.2.2.; few
more projects are submitted to Ministry of AYUSH and CCRAS through this
department.
3.5.3 What is the mode of publicizing the expertise of the university for consultancy
services ? Which are the departments from whom consultancy has been sought?
The university has a separate Public Relations Officer Cell with Public relation officer
and other supportive staffs, all the publicity materials are sent through this cell to
Media and Newspapers and Government Publication wing.

The expertise and full information regarding faculty speciality are available on
university website. The university being the first of its kind in the nation, and
recognized by international agencies such as WHO, individual faculty are known in
their field of study and are consulted for technical aspects of research, which is evident
by the projects pooled from various industries.
3.5.4 How does the university utilize the expertise of its faculty with regard to
consultancy services ?
All the teaching faculties of the university from Ayurveda clinical subjects are actively
involved in the hospital services such as OPD and IPD, and hence their services are
optimally utilized by the institutes. In addition to this services; the faculties too are free
to interact with industry in receiving various research projects. The faculty offer their
services in the sponsored research projects, the list of faculties involved in various
industy sponsored projects are listed in 3.2.5.
3.5.5 Give details regarding the consultancy services provided by the university for
secondary and tertiary health care centers and medical / dental practitioners.
The university and the health care facility offered by its constituent institutions are
themselves of Secondary or Tertiary Level Health Care centers in Ayurveda and allied
medical sciences. The whole organization provides free Consultancy services at all the
Department OPD and IPDs in both the UG and PG Hospitals.
The services offered in the extension OPD‟s of the university too are free of cost with
medicines for 7 days duration. The details of extension activities are given in 3.6 below.
3.5.6 List the broad areas of consultancy services provided by the university and the
revenue generated during the last four years.
The broad areas of consultancy services provided by the University and its constituent
institutes can be groupred into two as Free of Cost services and Services with minimum
honorarium. The areas of service are in Pre-Clinical (drug identification and
authentication, ayurvedic drug formulation design and development, Standard
Operating Procedures of formulations, safety and efficacy, standardization etc.) and
Clinical services (OPD, IPD, research design, clinical research format/form, clinical
research studies etc.), however all these services are provided without honorarium,
except that of TRC activities. The details of TRC projects and revenue generated during
last four years are given in 3.2.5.
3.6 Extension Activities and Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR)
3.6.1 How does the university sensitize its faculty and students on its Institutional
Social Responsibilities ? List the social outreach programs which have created
an impact on students' campus experience during the last four years.
The university sensitize its faculty and students on its Institutional Social
Responsibility thorugh participation in NSS activity, Health survey programs, Nidana
and Chikitsa Camps, Blood donation camps, Eye donation awareness drive, School
Health surveys, Health promotion lectures at schools etc.
Visit of school children – Education tour (Satya Sai School, Essar School, DKV college
and other Ayurved Colleges) to the university campus is also encouraged to develop
awareness on holistic health concepts and useful medicinal plants in and around us.
The University and its constituent colleges take active part in various Government and
University campaigns as a part of social responsibilities. Many socio-cultural activities
like Navaratri Celebration, Ganesh Chaturthi and Saraswatipooja celebration are done
within the campus with active involvement of all students.
NSS is very active in the University, and one NSS program officer (from affiliated
collge, Bhavnagar) received President Award too. Red Ribbon Club is active in NSS
activity.
Sadbhavana Divas, public awareness generation against Swine-Flu, Dengue fever, visits
to the School for special children, Deaf and Dumb school, Old Age Homes, Blood
Donation Camps, awarenesstowards RTI, school health survey and health awareness
lectures, Women‟s Empowerment programmes etc. are regularly conduced in the
constituent colleges of the university. The unique Health education programs, specially
designed for girls viz. „Conversation with Girls‟ is conducted under University School
of Continuing Education in Ayurveda, a constituent department of the University.
Nidana camps are regularly conducted both at urban and rural level.
The details of NSS program are enliseted in 3.6.3; the other outreach activities list is
providd in 3.6.4.
3.6.2 How does the university promote university-neighborhood network and
student engagement, contributing to the holistic development of students and
sustained community development ?
Majority of the activities of the university constituent colleges, being in health care
sector, are for general public and so University promotes neighborhood network
and student engagements through the following activities:
Involving students in various social / cultural activities as mentioned above.
Delegating students as educators in health education programs in the schools
and society under the guidance of faculty.
Involving students in all activities of the University for exposing students to
social responsibility and nurturing a holistic development in them.
The university and its constituent institutes are actively associated with defense
organizations, district jail, old age home, destitute home etc. and also provide service to
remote villages of the district through health service camps. These camps are organied
with active participation of studetns, faculty as well as local host i.e. public of the place.
University is associated with social service activities of Lions Club, Indian Lions, Gaint‟s
Club, Rotary Club, and many NGO‟s, Trusts, Ashram etc. for its social service activities.
Every year a good number of camps are organied by the constituent institutes of the
university, the list is provided below in 3.6.4.
3.6.3 How does the university promote the participation of the students and faculty
in extension activities including participation in NSS, NCC, YRC and other
National/ International programs ?
NSS activity is extended to two constituent colleges of the university and at both places
it is very active, yearly NSS camps are organized as per NSS schedule. In addition to
this, students are actively engaged in other national programs too. Faculty and students
have taken active participation in Vibrant Gujarat Ayurveda Summit, World Ayurveda
Congress, Sardar Patel Centenary celebration, 150th Birth anniversary of Swami
Vivekananda celebrations, Swachcha Bararath Abhiyan etc.
University has a Nature Nook Club, wherein students and faculty both are actively
involved. Within the campus students encouraged to conduct such programs and also
to take part in such national building programs outside the campus.
The Department of Sports of the University organize the Trekking and Mounteering
training program evert year and students actively take part in this.
However the university does not have NCC and YRC programs.

Kwath distribution for Swain flu and Dengue.:
On the date 29 August 2015 a camp was held for the distribution of Kwath for
swain flu and dengue in association with Jilla Panchayat at 15 different places of
Jamnagar district for 15 days. 33 students from D.Pharm. I year, II Year, B.Pharm.
I year participate in it. Patent, healthy person took benefit of it. Students were
happy to serve for them.
Blood donation camp:
On 13th Oct. the IIAPS arranged Blood donation camp in association of BDA (GG
hospital Blood Bank). The Staff, guests and students of IIAPS eagerly registered
and donated the blood for a cause. 36 bottle blood was donate on that day
certificate were also given to the participants.
LN4 Prosthetic hand camp: gift of mobility:
Two days camp was held for the Handicapped people on the day of 24th Oct
organized by rotary club Jamnagar. Where on 24th there was training program
for the volunteers who are going to fit artificial hand. And on 25th about 150
beneficiary people took benefit of this artificial hand.
Motivation to Youth Lecture on Swami vivekanand Jayanti: on 12th jan. 2016
under personality development programme a lecture was held for the student.
Our student Mr. Aniruddh Sharma gave a nice speech and after that Dr. Jignesh
kevalia give lac. to the student.
World yoga day: 21 June is now celebrating as World Yoga Day. All the Staff
and student took part in this day.
Thalassemia awareness lecture: on 6th feb an awareness lecture was delivered by
Vd. Joban Modha.
Thalassemia testing camp: On 8th Feb. Thalassemia testing camp was held in
I.P.G.T.&R.A. Building in association with Red cross society. Total 75 student
took benefit of that.
Swacchata abhiyan: on 27th Feb. A Swacchata relly and Swacchata Abhiyan was
organised by Reliance Industries at dhanvantri ground, student participate in
that.
Women’s day guest lecture: on 9th March self defence training and information
regarding police station based support centre under gender resource centre
lecture was held. Girls student and ladies staff got this valuable information
about that centre.
Brain power development lecture: on 8th March under personality development
and in exam stress a guest lecture was held to teach technique to remember many
things in few seconds. This lecture was given by Mr. Vinodbhai Lathiya.
Medicinal plant plantation: Student and staff of IIAPS planted Medicinal Plant
in Campus ground.
Special camp:
A special camp of IIAPS was held at Dhuvav village, Jamnagar.
29th Jan. 2016: Inauguration of camp by our VC. Padmashree Vd. Rajesh kotech at
dhuvav. On that day students done „health survey‟ in the village.
30th Jan. 2016: „Medicinal plant survey‟ was held for the students and students of Local
school that going to surve for the local people. Plant was identified by our export Miss.
Preeti Pandya and Dr. Krunal Doshi.
31st Jan. 2016: „Swacchta Awareness Rally and Swacchta Abhiyan‟ was done by
D.Pharma I year, D.Pharm II year and B.Pharma II Year students by street play.
Students also clean the village area and also aware the villagers to keep it clean.
1st Feb. 2016: „Beti bachavo-beti vadhavo‟, „No oxytocine‟, „Sauch tya sauchalay‟
awareness slogan was recite by the students, a guest lecture, Mr. Sailesh Gadhavi,
regional chairman, advisor PCPNDT and Mrs. Shetalben Shah, Joint MD of Mahila
bank, President Jain samaj Mahila wing deliver speech regarding the financial support
and scheme of government regarding girls education.
2nd Feb.2016: „No Addiction rally and Street play‟ was performed by D.Pharma I year,
D.Pharm II year and B.Pharma II Year students. A guest lecture Mr. Ketanbhai Shah
who is sufferer of Cancer sharing his experience with students, local school students
and amongst the villagers.
3rd Feb. 2016: „Medical Check up camp‟, „Haemoglobin tesing‟, „prakruti testing camp‟
was organised for the villagers. Many local villagers took benefit of that camp.
4th Feb.2016: „Medicinal plant plantation‟ was done at SBI bank Rural self employment
training centre by the director, staff and students.
Certificate was distributed for the one girl child women for encouragement for that.

Thalassemia test april 2014
With the Collaboration of Lion's Club (West), „Thalassemia Awareness Camp‟ was
organized on 7 February, 2014 to create an awareness towards Thalassemia - an
incurable disease with horrendous sufferings. th Another significant step forward in
the battle against this disease was taken on 4 April, 2014, when total 117 students
and staff of the Institute gave their blood to screen the prevalence of Thalassemia.
Vaidya Shri Rajesh Kotecha, Vice Chancellor, Gujarat Ayurved University was the
Chief Guest of this event. The Guests of Honour were Mr. Ashokbhai Shah (Trustee,
M. P. Shah Charitable Trust), Mr. Pradeepbhai Madhvani (Editor, Nobat Dainik),
Mr. Shyamalsha Udani (President, Lions Club) and Mr. Shailesh Gadhvi (Zone
Chair person, Lions Club). The sincere efforts of Dr. Joban Modha (Principal, I. I. A.
P. S.), Mr. Hitesh Sakhiya (Project Chairman), Mr. Shailesh Gadhvi and Mr.
Shyamalsha Udani made this event a grand success.
2nd oct. 2014 – Swachhata Abhiyan
In the month of october IIAPSians happily took part in the “Swatchh Bharat
Abhiyan” of Shri Narendra Modi on the auspicious day of Gandhi Jayanti.
The celebration/ drive started with the pledge taking ceremony on the university
ground. Dr. M. S. Baghel administered the swachhta pledge to all the staff and
students of G.A.U.
Followed by cleaning the various grounds / area / departments of GAU. We the
IIAPSians cleaned and leveled the campus. The staff as well as students
enthusiastically took part in it.
8th oct. 2014 - Air force Day Visit
In the month of October the students and faculties of IIAPS visited the Air force
station on the occasion of Air force day. The students enthusiastically observed the
armory and several fighter planes, helicopters of the Air force and were eager to
understand the minute details of each and every armors displayed.
On the whole they understood the importance of security forces and in it the
importance of Air force. The experience of air force was awesome for the students.
Run for Unity 31st oct.2014
On the eve of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel jayanti “Run for unity” program was held by
the state government at 8:30 am. The IIAPS took part in it along with the GAU. The
participants run from Lalbanglow / Cricket stadium through limda lane, via
bedigate , via town hall – culminating at lalbunglow.
Blood Donation Camp. 3rdnov.2014
On 3rdnov the IIAPS arranged blood donation camp in association of BDA (GG

Balachadi Beach Cleaning – 14th Sept. 2014.
Our sudents helped in cleaning of the Balachadi beach. The Balachadi beach was
flooded with Broken Idols of Ganpati as well as other gods after the
GanpatiVisarjan. They helped to clean the debris / broken Ganpati Idols etc. which
were polluting the sea as well as the beach of Balachadi. The students of IIAPS
enthusiastically helped to make the Balachadi beach pollution free.
Training of Trainers program at the Gujarat Vidyapith, Ahmedabad from
between 15-19 dec.2014.
Mr. ChandreshMamtora, program officer, IIAPS, attended the Training of Trainers

health and quality of life. All the students and Staff appreciate the lacture.
Mind control exercise and lacture by ISKC (Art of Mind Control): on 9th Jan.
2014 they explained the technique and innueendose of mind and how a person
can control his/her emotion and perform well in this stressing and competitive
environment.

several area in collaboration of Ayurved society in the month of Jan.

3.6.5 Does the university have a mechanism to track the students' involvement in
various social movements / activities that promote citizenship roles ?
Yes, officials concerned in the particular activity take regular track record of the
activity, faculty of the constituent institutes and mentors take regular feedback and
motivate students to take part in such activities. By taking part in such activities by
faculty themselves, they inspire the students to take part. These are reported in the
annual reports of concerned institutes. The Board of Sports department of university
mainly concerned with such type of activities and takes regular note and maintains the
records.
3.6.6 How does the university ensure the involvement of the community in its
outreach activities and contribute to community development ? Give details of
the initiatives of the institution that have encouraged community participation
in its activities.
The university ensures the involvement of the community in its outreach activities
contributing in community development by active participation of the population of
particular area. The details of the initiatives of the university and constituent
institutions are given below:
- University institutes regularly conducting medical camps in rural and urban areas.
- Out reach activities such as village adoption for health care, adoption of village
KONZA, Jamnagar District.
- Actively engaged in special service activities such as swine flue control program,
swine flue protection „uakada‟.
- PG institute is distributing decoction for health maintenance for general public
daily in the OPD.
- Extension OPD‟s are being conducted since many years.
- Faculty and technical staff are actively engaged in social welfare activities such as
health awareness lectures at schools, community centers, NGOs such as Lion‟s
Club. Indian Lions, Rotary Club, Giant‟s Club etc.
- Sports and cultural activities are regularly organized.
- Social services such as health survey, blood donation camps, participation in
swachcha bharat abhiyan, national programs such as vaccination, nutritional
supplementation, antenatal care, anaemia, and children welfare activities etc. Are
regularly being conducted.
- University staffs are deployed in the emergency response centre run by the district
administration.
- University & PG institute maintains a medicinal plants nursary (Sasoi) which
provides medicinal plants for the needy
- The health camps are arranged with the demand of community, the local
arrangements are made by the community,
- Gruha Ayurveda, conversation with girls, Mera Swasthya Mera Adhikar programs
of USCE are community demand based activities.
- Tapovan Kendra, an antenatal care centre established in collaboration with
Children Univerity, Gandhinagar serves the holistic antenatal care to the pregnant
woman.
- University hosted the International Yoga Day celebration 2015, and more than 3500
participants from various walks of life actively participated in this event.
Sarvaroga nidana camps are organized with complete involvement of community, the
local arrangements will be from the organization/village groups.
The activities of USCE under public domain are for community based at large, there is
great demand for community based programs like Gruh Ayurveda, three batches of
Gruh Ayurveda with strength of about 60 participants have already passed out from
this program.
NSS activities of the university are also community based and community involved
program.
Faculty and students with the help of community are actively involved in the social
service activities and the need of the society particularly health needs are addressed in
such activities. The community demands such activities in their areas shows the
growing demand of Ayurveda and University‟s community based popularity.
3.6.7 Give details of awards received by the university for extension activities
and/contributions to social/community development during the last four years.
University received wide appreciation from social media for its extension activities.
University has been awarded with Excellence in the field of Ayurveda in India
by Medscape India, a NGO, Mumbai, 2015.
The community based services such as health camps have received wide
appreciation through media and public.
University‟s active involvement during epidemiological outbreak diseases like
swine flue, chicken gunea received great appreciation from public as well as
district administration.
One of the NSS Program Officer of affiliated college [Dr. Kamalesh Bogayta]
received President‟s Award for his best contribution to NSS activity.
District administration awarded the Tablaue of the University presented during
Republic Day Parade at Parade Ground, Jamnagar in the year 2016.
The university was graded twice „A‟ in the Swachcha Bharat Abhiyan evaluation
by Member of Parliament, Jamnagar.
3.6.8 What intervention strategies have been adopted by the university to promote
the overall development of students from rural/ tribal backgrounds ?
The university maintains zero tolerance against discrimination among the students
and faculties. The students from tribal and rural background are given special
attention and encouraged to take part in their overall development. All the facilities
provided by the government for such students are delivered promptly.
Student counselor and mentors look after the overall performance in academics,
address the issues related to performances and their psychological needs.
The learning resources like CD‟s, Videos, DVD‟s, Books, journals are made available
to students.
Students are motivated to participate in extra-curricular, including sports, activities.
The reservation policy adopted by the university for students from rural and tribal
background and fee concession etc. are as per government rules.
3.6.9 What initiatives have been taken by the university to promote social-justice
and good citizenship amongst its students and staff ? How have such
initiatives reached out to the community ?
The university promotes social justice by adopting the following policies:
- Zero tolerance to discrimination on the basis of caste, creed, sex, religion, language,
nationality etc.
- Good citizenship roles among the students are promoted by making the students
aware of their fundamental duties, special lectures by eminent personalities are
arranged for the same.
- Actively involving the students in community health awareness camps, diagnostic
camps etc. and ensure that the awareness and treatment modalities reach out to the
community by on-field camps.
- Medical Jurisprudence, Pharmaceutical Jurisprudence, Citizenship rights, Ethics
and Etiquattes are taught as part of UG curriculum.
- Rendering free health services at various extension OPD‟s, health camps, old age
home etc.
- The university has adopted innovative practices of good citizenship through its
activities like, plastic free zone, vehicle free day on Wednesday in the campus, and
promotion of non-violence.
- The university promotes gender equality in curricular and extra curricular
activities, both for staff and students. It also promotes gender equality in leadership
issues.
- The Women Cell, Anti ragging cell, SC-ST cell are active to cater to the issues
related to social justice.
3.6.10 How does the university align itself with the annual themes/programs of
WHO/ICMR ?
University is exclusive for Ayurveda and allied sciences education, research and health
care activites, and its activities come under the annual themes and programs of AYUSH
ministry.
All the research guidelines, safety and efficacy guidelines etc. are followed as per WHO
criteria and the ethical code of conduct, clinical research protocol etc. are followed as
per ICMR guidelines in the university. Faculty and students are motivated to undertake
research projects in alignment with WHO, AYUSH and ICMR thrust areas.
Being in health care sector, all ethical guidelines issued by cental and state statutory
bodies are followed by the university.
IPGT&RA itself is a WHO Collaborative Centre for Traditoinal Medicines (Ayu), and is
in contact with South East Asian Regional Office, New Delhi and WHO Head qauter,
Geneva, for the regular updates in the health care sector, especially in traditional
medicine field.
3.6.11 What is the role of the university in the following extension activities ? *
Community outreach health programs for prevention, detection, screening,
management of diseases and rehabilitation by cost effective interventions.
* Awareness creation regarding potable water supply, sanitation and nutrition.
* Awareness creation regarding water-borne and air-borne communicable
diseases.

exercise for promotion of health and prevention of diseases.
* Awareness creation regarding AYUSH Systems of medicines in general and /
or any system of medicine in particular.

* Participation in national programs like Family Welfare, Mother and Child
Welfare, Population Control, Immunization, HIVAIDS, Blindness control,
Malaria, Tuberculosis, School Health, anti tobacco campaigns, oral health care,
etc.
* Promotion of mental health and prevention of substance abuse.
* Adoption of population in the geographical area for total health care.
* Research or extension work to reach out to marginalized populations.
Univerity is actively involved in community outreach health programs for prevention,
detection, screening, management of diseases and rehabilitation by cost effective
interventions as mentioned in 3.6.6.
The new buildings of the university campus are provided with rain water harvesting
system to preserve the natural source of potable water. The university hospitals and
hostels are equipped with RO water system.
During health survey and health awareness lectures and programs, community is made
aware of importance of potable water, nutritive food and good hegienic health
conditons for disease free environment. It is also a part of Swasthavritta curriculum of
degree program of the university, the Swastha vritta dept. Conducts OPD wherein
awareness of good drinking water, nutritious food, etc. is given. The university has also
developed a holistic nutritive biscuit (Pausthtika biscuits) for school going children.
While selecting topic for clinical research, emphasis is given on topics of social and
public importance such as nutrition, hygiene, preventive measures of water borne and
air borne diseases. Regular Dhupana (fumigation) with herbal antimicrobial drugs are
done in the hospitals, and emphasis the use by the patients in their dwelling areas.
University campus promotes Plastic free environment and vehicle free day on
Wednesday.
University campus is fully covered with underground sewage system.
University conducted Swachchata Abhiyan – a rally to develop awareness among
common public.
Ukada distribution to public to prevent water borne, air borne diseases is regularly
conducted in OPD at daily basis.
Daivyavyapshraya Chikitsa Kendra of SGAM promotes mental health of needy public.
The yoga practice sessions are regularly conducted at MPIYNER for better health status,
it is open to public with nominal fee, separate classes are conducted for Women. A
separate Gymnasium is functioning at MPIYNER, which is also open to public use.
Pharmaco economics: Week long 7days medicines are given free of cost, preparation of
drugs done at inhouse pharmacy, cultivation of raw drugs in the campus and nursery at
Sasoi gardem are utilized for preparation of medicines in the inhouse pharmacy of the
university.
The Drug Committee of the Pharmacy ensures the quality of raw materials, and
finished products. The Pharmacy Department regularly practices the drug quality
assurance.
3.6.12 Do the faculty members participate in community health awareness programs
? If yes, give details.
Yes,
University faculty members are participating in various health awareness activities such
as:
- Health awareness talks and interactions
- Article, column in local print media, Radio and TV talks on health issues
- Invited lecture in schools, public programs and NGO‟s etc.
3.6.13 How does the university align itself and participate in National program for
prevention and control of diseases ?
Univeristy is committed to prevention of diseases and promotion of public health. All
the activites of the university is aligned with the national programs and AYUSH
mission activities, the details are given in 3.6.6. University is giving special services
during epidemic outbreaks of swine flue, chicken guinea UKADA service, in
collaboration with implementation of national programs to district administration.
3.7 Collaborations
3.7.1. How has the institution’s collaboration with other agencies impacted the
visibility, identity and diversity of campus activities? To what extent has the
institution benefited academically and financially because of the collaborations?
Collaborative research is being conducted at IPGT&RA in association with CSIR -Ayurgenomics Unit- TRISUTRA, IGIB, Delhi for which exclusive Ayurgenomic Laboratory has been set up at IPGT&RA. Establishment of this laboratory has given exposure to the scholars of the institute to highly equipped laboratory facilities and given new scope for researches in anthropology, Prakriti analysis and establishing relation with phenotype and genotype etc.
A Marine Bio Resource Centre (MBRC) is established at Dhanvantari Mandir,
Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar under the aegis of Gujarat State
Biotechnology Mission, DST, Government of Gujarat. The laboratory of MBRC
has also been set up in the campus of the university, which is helping to assess
genetic characterization of human along with other genetic approach to marine
organisms.
Tapovan Research Centre has been started from 09/09/2014 at Shree
Gulabkunverba Ayurveda Chikitsalaya, Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar
by the collaboration with Children‟s University, Gandhinagar. For this purpose
MOU has been done between these universities. More than 150 pregnant women
have taken benefits from this center till date.
IPGT&RA, Jamnagar has been designated as WHO collaborating Centre of
Traditional Medicines (Ayurveda). As a part of this collaboration, various
activities as per ToR have been initiated. For this purpose a special cell has been
made, which has been organizing various workshops and peer review meetings.
Such activities helped the faculties and research scholars‟ of the institute to
prepare themselves for globalization of Ayurveda and initiate awareness among
Indian society regarding health promotion, prevention and management of
diseases with Ayurveda principles.
3.7.2. Mention specific examples of how these linkages promote Curriculum development: Many of the faculties of the Gujarat Ayurved University affiliated colleges are members of CCIM or CCIM constituted committees for curricular development and thus the faculties of the institute have contributed significantly in the curricular development and update. In addition, Peers visiting the university during meetings of Board of education, Scientific Advisory Committee meeting and various workshops have helped in advancing the teaching, learning, evaluation and faculty development strategies. Teacher‟s training workshop for syllabus of B.A.M.S was also conducted where faculties of concerned departments of all the affiliated colleges of UG were given training related to syllabus. Internship: students are posted rotationally in the departments of the college after the completion of UG course and are also posted in PHC/CHC for 3 months. Activities –Students exchange
• Students of various institutes or organizations who are in MoU with Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar visit various institutes like IPGT&RA, SGKAM, Jamnagar. Training of scholars of Brazilian Association of Ayurveda, Fundacion De Salud, Ayurveda PREMA, Argentina, Tapovan Ayurveda & Yoga Center, France and Reidman College of Complimentary Medicine, Israel is being conducted and this is helping for better understanding of Ayurveda and its propagation.
• WHO fellow from Bhutan, North Korea has also visited the university for short term training in Panchakarma
• However, there is provision of 10 seats for foreign nationals in the B.A.M.S. course which is being conducted at Shree Gulab Kunverba Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, Jamnagar and students of various countries are undergoing this course as depicted in figure 1 and 2. In the last 4 years 16 students of various countries have been admitted in this course and are undergoing B.A.M.S. course as per the CCIM curriculum.

Three months introductory course is also being conducted by ICAS in collaboration of IPGTR&A. Every year, 10 seats are available for foreign nationals, which is being conducted every year during November to January. The details of the course are depicted in the figure 3-4. In the last 4 years 34 students of various countries have participated in this course. Similarly every year, three seats are available for international scholars in M.D./M.S.(Ayu) course at IPGT&RA and students from various countries like Srilanka, Nepal, Japan, USA, Netherland, Mauritius, etc. have undergone this course. Students of foreign countries have also undergone courses like P.G.D.Y.N., D.Nat.Yoga, C.Y.N., C.Y.Ed., and PTCY at MPIYNER, Jamnagar.

3.7.4. Have the institution –industry interactions resulted in the establishment/creation of highly specialized laboratories/facilities? Various sponsored projects has been undertaken by the faculties‟ of IPGT&RA under TRC for which MoU have been done. Recently few clinical trial of Vasu Health Care Pvt. Ltd., Vadodara, Ayurchem Products, Dombivli, Maharashtra, Charaka Pharmacy, Suryavinayaka Pvt. Ltd, New Delhi etc. have been conducted.
