6.5.2 The institution reviews its teaching learning process, structures & methodologies of operations and learning outcomes at periodic intervals through IQAC set up as per norms and recorded the incremental improvement in various

Response:

Institute has developed a well planned and robust teaching learning process which is

continuously improved through implementing the suggestions and guidelines as provided by

IQAC. Institute reviews its teaching-learning process, structures and methodologies of

operations and learning outcomes once in a semester through IQAC. In addition, teaching-

learning process is reviewed in the meetings of College Development Committee and Governing

Council meetings, Faculty interaction meetings and appropriate measures are taken at regular

intervals of time.

IQAC periodically reviews the teaching learning process, structures & methodologies of

operations and learning outcomes:

Proper planning of all academic activities is done and it gets reflected in the Institute level

Academic calendar which is prepared well in advance before beginning of the semester.

Subject allocation is done based on the proficiency of the teachers.

Time tables are prepared with separate time slots for Training and Placement activities,

seminar, tutorials and slow learner activities.

Individual faculty members prepare systematic Teaching plan along with correlation to the

Course Outcomes (COs), Program Outcome (POs) and Program Specific Outcome (PSOs). They

organize a Course file which contains university syllabus, previous year question papers,

theory and objective questions, class test question papers, slow learner activity schedule and

course attainment document. Further it is verified by the Academic Coordinator/ HOD and

Principal.

Teaching plan, notes on lesson and question bank are posted in the Learning Management

System for both theory and lab courses enabling the ICT enabled lectures in addition to black

board teaching.

Enriching the curriculum with 30 hours augmentation courses, guest lectures, industrial

visits and in-plant training/Internships.

Continuous monitoring of attendance and performance of students through Academic Record

Book.

Effective internal examination and evaluation systems.

In tune with the outcome based approach, the question papers for the internal class tests are

prepared with a specific pattern which will enable the assessment of the attainment of enlisted

Course Outcomes (COs) for each course.

Prompt communication to parents about their wards’ performance and attendance is taken

care through SMS system.

Defaulter student list and projected internal marks are displayed on notice boards.

Student feedback is taken twice during a Semester through structured questionnaire and

necessary changes/improvements as per the feedback are implemented. Feedbacks are

reviewed by HOD and Principal and it is communicated to the faculty members. The

concerned faculty then plans for improvements which are monitored on a regular basis for

their effectiveness.

Regular parent-teacher meeting is conducted once in a semester to enable discussion,

obtaining parent feedback and taking improvement measures.

Institute believes that audits, both internal and external are to be conducted periodically to

ensure effective implementation of academic policies for ensuring and sustaining quality. For

this purpose, IQAC has designed integrated framework in the form of structured course file,

academic record book, daily class conduction record, daily course coverage report and

monthly course monitoring report.

Principal, Head of departments and Academic monitoring committee members evaluate

delivery effectiveness of teaching methods using structured documents and procedure framed

by IQAC. The knowledge absorption and assimilation by students is constantly monitored as

per the IQAC audit procedure. This audit is done in following several stages.

Department Level Audit:

All faculty members submit Teaching plan and Laboratory plan for conduction of theory and

laboratory sessions to their respective Head of departments as per the well-defined format by

IQAC.

These teach plans are verified/checked at different stages in accordance with syllabus and

scheme of examination given by Madras University

All faculty members maintain academic record book (Log book) and record daily sessions

delivered, practicals conducted and other such activities performed.

This academic record is periodically monitored by Director Academic / HODs by checking

course coverage report filled by faculty member.

On the basis of this report, syllabus coverage report is prepared by Director Academic /HOD

at department level three times in a semester that is, at the end of every month. If syllabus

could not be covered as per schedule, the teachers accordingly take extra hours to fulfill the

requirements.

The Heads of the Department also review the various academic activities during the

department meetings and guide the faculty members accordingly.

IQAC has framed integrated frame work in the form of file structure at each department level

for Quality assurance in academic activities.

The IQAC has also framed the procedures and formatted documents to conduct

interdepartmental audit once a semester and external audit once a year to evaluate delivery

effectiveness of teaching learning structures & methodologies.

It has been resolved in the IQAC meetings that a committee needs to be formed in each

department which includes Head of department, IQAC coordinator and one or two senior

members from other departments to conduct interdepartmental IQAC audit.

In case of institute level internal audit, interdepartmental committee visits each department

and checks all the document files thoroughly and audit report is prepared. For document in

correct filled format as per IQAC format and procedure will marked if any observations in the

documents along with the suggestions.

In case of lacking re-audit will be arranged to complete observations. In case of external audit,

external expert of IQAC visits all departments to check the performance in terms of quality of

teaching and learning process.

ACADEMIC ADUDIT REPORT, 2019-20

Introduction

The Academic Audit of the NPSB was conducted on 14th December 2019. The

purpose of the academic audit is to assess the academic performance of the

college based on the academic activities of all the faculty members and the

departments to identify the strengths and limitations of the stakeholders

mentioned above to achieve vision and mission of the college.

Process of Auditing

As a process of improving the quality of teaching learning, the institution

conducts academic audits. The academic audits motivate the departments and

college administration to evaluate the quality of their education process and

take corrective actions whenever/wherever required. The departments are

audited both by internal and external auditors and their comments are

consolidated for any action for progress.

For this purpose, the proforma prescribed by the NAAC was circulated to all

the departments and asked to fill up and submit the detailed report of their

activities during the academic year 2018-19. The IQAC investigated the

different activites of the departments and authenticated them with the

supporting evidences. The academic audit report consolidates the overall

academic activities, findings, limitations, suggestions, and area of

improvements possible in the future. The reports consists of three part. First

part explains the type of documents submitted and reviewed for auditing.

Second part focuses on the observation while third part concentrates on

suggestions.

Documents Reviewed

1. Programme curriculum and syllabus File

All the departments submitted their curriculum and syllabus files and

the same have been reviewed

2. Academic Activity Calendar and Activity Conduction reports

Academic Activity Calendar has been prepared and submitted to the

IQAC by all the departments.

Based on the academic calendar, many academic programmes have been

conducted

All the academic activities conducted in the departments are documented

in the form of Activity Conduction Reports and the same have been

submitted.

Record of circulars are maintained well and presented for auditing

Minutes of all the meetings conducted by the departments have been

submitted chronologically.

3. Academic Planner

The CBCS enables the students to specialise or nurture their skills in a

particular discipline. The updated and job oriented elective courses

have been listed out discipline wise.

The subject choice of faculty members are primarily based on their

specialisation and interests on the subject. All the details about subject

choice of faculty members are submitted with supporting documents.

the time-table prepared for the odd and even semester.

all the faculty members for the subjects handled by them in every month

for both odd and even semester

Staff Log Book maintained by individual faculty members for the

subjects handled by them have been submitted

Various activities for slow learners such as functioning of remedial

classes conducted organized for slow learners have been submitted

4. Exam

Three CIA tests have been conducted by all the departments for all the

subjects for the purpose of internal assessment and the same have been

submitted.

Internal marks of the students are assessed on the basis of three

components such as CIA tests, assignments, and seminar and the details

ae submitted.

University results are analysed and documented for understanding

performance/achievement of students in the semester examination and

the same have been submitted.

Details of students’ proficiency such as class topper and university

rank holder in subjects have been submitted by all the departments

5. Extra-Curricular and co-curricular activities (students)

Students’ achievements in technical activities or core subjects have

been identified and the same have been submitted.

Students’ achievements in inter and intra college sports meets are

documented and submitted

Students’ achievements in inter and intra college cultural competitions

are documented and submitted.
