Creative Imedia - Year 9 Summer Term - Home Learning Your 1 st project to be handed in to OCR, the exam board, will be R082, Creating Digital Graphics. It will hopefully be submitted in Jan 2021. This will be a different question to the Saturn Explorer project but will follow the same format and use the skills you have learned during the project you have done in Year 9. We will start this straight away in September 2020. (Don’t worry if you didn’t finish the production of you actual book cover in Photoshop, we will be going through Photoshop skills in more detail in Year 10.) 1. With this in mind I have included an example of each of the 5 different purposes of digital graphics. You are to master your analysis skills by analysing for each image. A massive 18/60 marks is allocated to this section so it is important you are ready to get top marks: a. What is the purpose of the digital graphic? b. Who is the target audience and what are your reasons for this, from what you can see in the image? (not from what you know about the product) c. Explain the technical information and how it is/or isn’t suitable for its use? d. Explain the layout and how it is designed for the target audience. i. Use of thirds and if and why the rule has been used. ii. Hierarchy of text and images and why they are as they are. iii. Use of colour and why they have been used. iv. Use of white space and how and why it has been used. 2. I have included an example of the completed book cover of Saturn Explorer. We will have to evaluate our creations so I have compiled a question sheet for you to complete so that you will be ready to evaluate your digital graphic once you’ve finished it. 3. I have already had published to the school website the R081 revision guide and a past exam paper and the answers. Please make sure you learn the contents of the revision guide and have a go at the question paper. We are to sit the written exam in summer 2021 so we have lots of time to do more exam papers but I will go through this one in September so it would be necessary for you to have completed it. Now have a go at Task 1, the analysis of the 5 purposes of digital graphics. I have produced a question sheet, which is the same for each purpose, obviously the answers will be different. You can either print out the 2 sheets needed for each image, so 5 times, or you could produce it yourself digitally! Make sure you number the sheets so you know which digital graphic you are analysing.

Creative Imedia - Year 9 Summer Term - Home Learning

Your 1st project to be handed in to OCR, the exam board, will be R082, Creating Digital

Graphics. It will hopefully be submitted in Jan 2021. This will be a different question to

the Saturn Explorer project but will follow the same format and use the skills you have

learned during the project you have done in Year 9.

We will start this straight away in September 2020. (Don’t worry if you didn’t finish the

production of you actual book cover in Photoshop, we will be going through Photoshop

skills in more detail in Year 10.)

1. With this in mind I have included an example of each of the 5 different purposes of

digital graphics. You are to master your analysis skills by analysing for each image. A

massive 18/60 marks is allocated to this section so it is important you are ready to get

top marks:

a. What is the purpose of the digital graphic?

b. Who is the target audience and what are your reasons for this, from what

you can see in the image? (not from what you know about the product)

We will

have to evaluate our creations so I have compiled a question sheet for you to

complete so that you will be ready to evaluate your digital graphic once you’ve

finished it.

3. I have already had published to the school website the R081 revision guide and a past

exam paper and the answers. Please make sure you learn the contents of the revision

guide and have a go at the question paper. We are to sit the written exam in summer

2021 so we have lots of time to do more exam papers but I will go through this one in

September so it would be necessary for you to have completed it.

Now have a go at Task 1, the analysis of the 5 purposes of digital graphics.

I have produced a question sheet, which is the same for each purpose, obviously the

answers will be different.

You can either print out the 2 sheets needed for each image, so 5 times, or you could

produce it yourself digitally! Make sure you number the sheets so you know which digital

graphic you are analysing.

Creative Imedia - Year 9 Summer Term - Home Learning – Task 2

On the previous page is an example of a completed Saturn Explorer book cover. The target audience is

12+ and is gender neutral.

You are to use the information you learned from the project, and the client brief and evaluate the cover

by answering the following questions:

1. Describe how you think the title Saturn Explorer is effective/not effective. (Placement on each panel,

size, colour, font) Also how could it be improved?

How could it be improved?

6. Now look at the graphics themselves. Are they effective and suitable for the target audience? How

and why? Look at the editing, the effects in Photoshop and the quality of the images. Are they

suitable for the purpose? How could they be improved?

Is the size correct? Do the maths to prove either it is or it isn’t. Use the data in your answer. Could it

have been saved in any other format? Why? (Client brief said: 12 inches wide by 8 ½ inches high.)
