CREATING THE FILM POSTER

STEP ONE-FIRST POLAROIDFirst I downloaded an image of an average looking Polaroid to my user space and then inserted it into Photoshop. I then positioned it at an angle as it was to be the base image of the pile of images.

STEP TWO- THREE POLAROID'SI then repeated the previous step twice, using the same sized Polaroid's, and transformed them (pressing *Control* T on the keyboard) rotating their position on the page.

STEP THREE- EDITING THE THREE PHOTOGRAPHSThe images to the left are the images that I used in the Life Drop film poster. I chose these images as I thought that the actor looked off guard in them all so that it seems like his stalker has taken them without him knowing. I used a website called ‘Picnick’ to edit the images as it has many different effects that can be added to images.

STEP THREE CONTINUED

1. First I selected the image that needed to be edited from my user space.

2. Next you go onto the tab named ‘Effects’.

3. There you will see a panel that allows you to change the effects on the image. (For the two images to the left I used the ‘Black and White’ and ‘Boost’ effects to test to see what they looked like

This is where came across the ‘HDR-ish’effect and found that this looked reallygood so applied it to the image. I adjustedthe percentages of the effect and saved thecompleted image to my user area.

STEP FOUR- ADDING THE FIRST PICTUREI hid all of the other layers where the other Polaroid's were so that I could see the base Polaroid. I inserted the image to the document and adjusted the size and rotation of it to fit into the blank space on the Polaroid.

STEP FIVE-ADDING THE SECOND PICTUREI then made the second layer visible and repeated the previous step.

Page 8: Creating the film poster

STEP SIX- ADDING THE THIRD PICTUREI made the third Polaroid visible and again, repeated the previous step.

STEP SEVEN-THE FILM TITLEWe designed this title together on a website named Dafont, which specialises displaying many different fonts that can be customised to suit your needs. We decided to use this font in particular as the characters look like those used in a ransom note.I made sure that this was the largest font on the page as this follows the typical codes and conventions of film poster making and also to ensure that the audience knows the title of the film.

STEP EIGHT-THE BACKGROUNDI thought that the poster needed a background to make the Poleroids stand out on the page more and to bring more colour to the page.I decided to make a black and white gradient as the background as it made the page appear more alive and indepth.

STEP NINE-THE INSTITUTIONAL INFORMATIONAfter altering the institutional information from the previous film poster, I inserted the text at the bottom of the page as this is typically where it is found and it isn’t in the way there.

STEP TEN- THE PRODUCTION COMPANY LOGOI add the production company logo onto the film poster so that people knew who the film was funded and produced by. Later on I decided to add a ‘C’ to the end of the production company logo so that it is covered by copyright and no other companies can use it.

STEP ELEVEN-THE CERTIFICATION BADGEBefore adding the certification badge I needed to dispose of the white background because it would have looked unusual with a white box surrounding it, straight onto the black background. I used the quick selection tool to do this.

STEP TWELVE-THE TAGLINEWe came up with the taglines for the film together and tried to play on words to make them remember able.I placed them on the same Polaroid as another indication that the character in the photograph’s life will somehow be effected and change for the worse.

STEP THIRTEEN- ADDING THE KISS MARKI thought that adding the kiss mark to the Polaroid was a great idea as it tells the audience more about the storyline as kissing a photograph of someone who is unaware of it being taken it is a strange thing to do.To make the kiss mark more 3D I not only cut out the white background, I also added a texture and a bevel effect.

Page 16: Creating the film poster

STEP FOURTEEN- CREATING THE REVIEWSI created four different reviews from magazines and newspapers so that the audience knew how good the actual film would be.To make the reviews all I did was acquire an image of a star off of the internet, cut it out using the quick selection tool and then copy and pasting the star over and over again until I had the required amount. I then wrote the reviews and placed them all together in the same section of the page.

STEP FIFTEEN-THE DATE To create the date I added three different effects to it to make it stand out of the page more, but not enough to distract the eye from the film’s title. I added a ‘drop shadow’ and ‘outer glow’ to the text as I found that they complimented each other and gave the text more depth. I also added a ‘stroke’ which made the writing bolder.

STEP SIXTEEN- THE ACTORS/ ACTRESS NAMESI almost never added this feature to the magazine but then I thought that it would be a good idea to go so as when names of famous actors/ actresses are mentioned, their fan base instantly reacts and this encourages them to go and watch a film.

FINISHED FILM POSTEROverall I am very happy with the appearance of my film poster and I think that it links ton the rest of the promotional package well.
