Date Night Movie Poster

Purpose:

This poster is to advertise the film, but

also shows who the main characters are played

by. Colour:

Grey, white are the main colours used. The white, bold writing stands out

within the picture because everything else

around the text is a darker colour. This draws the eye to the title of the

film first. Key Image:

The poster depicts a romantic film. The title gives

us the romantic element ‘Date Night’ and then

clothing and staging in the image gives us the

impression that something happens within the ‘Date

Night’. This gives us a sense of mystery.

Background:

The background of the poster is a light grey

colour. This plain colour doesn’t give us any

ideas about the contents of the film.

Realism:

The poster looks realistic because of the non-

edited picture.

Text Colour:

The text colour has been chosen to contrast from the other darker colours used already. The title text colour is big, bold white which draws the

viewers eye to the title.

Date Night Movie Poster

Text

Date Night Movie Poster

Layout:

The layout of the poster is clear. The image is

directly in the centre of the page. Because the image is in the centre, our eyes are drawn to

the image and text. The layout is very simple.

Target Audience:

The target audience isn’t obviously shown in this

image, there is no rating on the poster either.

My Opinion:

I like this poster, however, I think it is a

little too simplistic. There isn’t enough to tell us

about the film. We don’t know the rating or

audience it is targeting. I do like the colour

scheme. It is subtle and the white shows up

really well compared to the other colours.

She’s The Man Movie Poster

Purpose:

This poster is to advertise the film, but

also shows who the main actress is. The shaded text behind the image gives us a sense of the

context of the film. Colour:

The only colour that stands out is the white background. I wouldn’t

say there is a colour scheme. The only colours that are

repeated is the red and black. Key Image:

The poster depicts a romantic comedy film. The

image shows the main group of peers. The text behind the key image also gives you the

rough outline of the storyline.

Background:

The background of the poster is white. This

plain colour doesn’t give us any ideas about the

contents of the film. But does make the image

stand out.Text Colour:

There are different text colours. Black, Red and

Grey. The title text colour is big, bold and black and red which

draws the viewers eye to the title.

She’s The Man Movie Poster

Layout:

The poster is very busy, with a lot of text and a large image. The image

is in the middle but lower down the page.

The writing is large and at the top.

Target Audience:

The target audience isn’t obviously shown in this

image, there is no rating on the poster either. You can see that it’s going to contain a

romance as there are both male and female

characters in the image.

My Opinion:

I think the poster is very crammed and too busy.

The audience won’t know where to look for

the information they are looking for. We don’t

know the rating or audience it is targeting.

Mean Girls Movie Poster

Purpose:

This poster is to advertise the film, but

also shows who the main characters are played by

and who directed it. It also says when the film

will be released in cinemas.Colour:

Pink and Purple are the main colours used. The pink title contrasts with the purple background

and draws your eye into the title.

Key Image:

The poster depicts a school based film. The clothing

from the right image gives us the impression that they are girly and bossy by the

colour and the posture of the girls. The left image shows a

girl who is probably quite normal as she wears simple

clothing. The red clashes with the pink and this is reflects the personalities

between the pink girls and her.

Background:

The background of the poster is a light purple

colour. This plain colour fits well with the pink theme also running through the poster.

Text Colour:

The text colour has been chosen to reflect the colour scheme in the

film. The film is based on a girl click so therefore the colouring is pink,

purple and white.

Page 7: Film Poster Research

Layout:

The layout of the poster is in two. The ‘mean

girls’ on the right and Lindsay Lohan on the

left. The writing ‘Watch Your Back’ is placed

underneath the ‘mean girls’ this reflects the

personalities of them. I like the layout as the different sides are also from different worlds in

the film. Target Audience:

The target audience clearly female as the

colours reflect a stereotypical female. However, there is no

rating on the poster so you can’t see the target

age group.

My Opinion:

I like the poster almost being split in half by the two groups and different

worlds being divided. The colour scheme fits well and the text is a

simple font. I like how the poster has a tag line and that the text reflects the ‘mean

girls’ attitudes.

Just Go With It Movie Poster

Purpose:

This poster is to advertise the film, but

also shows who the main characters are played

by. It also says when the film will be released in

cinemas.

Colour:

The main colour of blue doesn’t give any

features away about the film.

Key Image:

The poster depicts a romance comedy film as a couple are sitting on the

beach, but the female has a smirk on her face.

Background:

The background of the poster is the image of

the two main characters sitting on a beach with a female standing in the middle of the image

between the two main characters.

Text Colour:

The text colour is white and light blue. I think the

light blue is a wrong colour for the poster as the text is over a blue sky. The text is hard to

read. The white text however, is a good

colour as it is clear and easy to read.

Just Go With It Movie Poster

Layout:

The layout has a rule of thirds. The centre image of the girl must have a

part in the film as otherwise she wouldn’t

be there. This could reflect that something gets in the way of the

two either side’s relationship.

Target Audience:

There is no rating on the poster so you can’t see

the target audience group. The image’s

connotations say that the film is a romance.

My Opinion:

I don’t like the text colour in this poster as it’s hard to read and I don’t think the image gives enough away

about the film.

What Happens in Vegas Movie Poster

Purpose:

This poster is to advertise the film, but

also shows who the main actors are.

Colour:

The colours are light and bright. The white

background contrasts with the orange text . It

also makes the characters stand out

more.Key Image:

The poster depicts a romantic comedy film. The image shows a couple with

the male have a cheeky look on his face and the female

character have a smile (laugh) expression. These

are connotations of fun and comedy.

Background:

The background of the poster is white and

makes the image and text stand out.

Text Colour:

The text colours are mainly orange and a

little black. The orange contrasts with the white background and is easy

to read.

What Happens in Vegas Movie Poster

Layout:

The layout is simple. The image is large and

dominates the poster.

Target Audience:

There is no rating on the poster so you can’t see

the target audience group. The image’s

connotations say that the film is a romantic

comedy, so it would be aimed to a older

audience.

My Opinion:

I really like the layout, image, colour and text

choice in this poster. The white really contrasts the image and text.

Brides Maids Movie Poster

Purpose:

This poster is to advertise the film, but

also shows who produced the film.

Colour:

The colours are mainly pink and white. The white big bold text

catches your eye and draws you into the

poster. Key Image:

The poster depicts a romantic comedy film. The image is of a bride and the

bridesmaids, this has connotations of romance

and the bridesmaids are all in different poses so this

shows a comedy aspect. The colours of pink and white

contrasts on the brick wall.

Background:

The background of the poster is a brick wall

which contrasts with the rest of the images.

Text Colour:

The text colours are mainly white and pink.

These colours are connotations of females.

Page 13: Film Poster Research

Brides Maids Movie Poster

Layout:

The layout is almost half and half. The text taking one half and the image

taking the other.

Target Audience:

There is no rating on the poster so you can’t see

the target audience group. The image’s

connotations say that the film is a romantic

comedy, so it would be aimed to a older

audience.

My Opinion:

I really like the layout, image, colour and text

choice in this poster. The brick wall contrasts with

the image and text.
