Here is where things get really exciLng! Now it’s Lme to really focus on the process of turning your website into a highly profitable machine. The way to do this is through a simple, yet brilliant process of seZng into place what we call a “Funnel.” The basic idea is that you have website visitors landing on your website and leaving to, in some cases, never return. Rather than having this traffic come and go, we hope to ensure they’ll come back by capturing one single piece of informaLon from them — their email address. Once we have their email, we now have a way to directly reach out to them with a specific offer or a specific message we hope to present to them. The way to do this is not to just simply ask for their email address as there would be nothing in it for them. Instead we need to offer them some sort of high value item in exchange for their email. This is what we call a “Lead Magnet Offer” or an “Opt-‐in IncenLve.” The Lead Magnet offer is the way to begin the process of turning a cold website visitor into a red hot customer. It begins your sales funnel and is an absolute necessity in order to be successful online.

A lead magnet is simply an offer made in exchange for a visitor’s contact informaLon. It can be anything from a simple 1 page PDF download to an hour long video or invitaLon to a live webinar.

Email marketing is done through an online software service. This service organizes your list of emails and enables you to send custom emails to your subscribers. This tool connects with your opt-in form and helps deliver your lead magnet to your new subscriber.

Once your visitor completes your opt in form, they will be redirected to a thank you page. This page ensures your visitor that they’ve successfully submitted their information and assures them that their offer is on its way to their email right now. Congratulations, you’ve finished setting up your funnel for now! We’ll come back to this step later as this is where we can really start to dial in our funnel and take our business to the next level.

An opt-in form is where a website visitor can enter their contact information in exchange for the lead magnet you are offering. This form also works to relay the contact info directly to your email service.

Remember that the real goal of this entire funnel is to turn your traffic into real buying customers. So far, we’ve simply turned traffic into leads, not customers. Now is the time to bridge that gap and present our first offer to our newly opted-in traffic. We call this a “Tripwire” offer.

A tripwire is simply an irresistible and inexpensive low-barrier offer (priced under $20) that exists for one sole reason: to turn a visitor into a buyer. Tripwires exist to fundamentally alter the habits of a visitor. They do this by encouraging a visitor to take an added step of commitment and actually purchase something. We need our visitors to make this small purchase so that they can more easily become a real buying customer. We need them to cross this huge chasm of consuming free content to pulling out their credit card and actually paying for something. This action, in effect, shows they have an added trust in our business and want to see if what we are offering will solve a problem for them. It also cultivates buying habits for higher ticketed items in the future. The key here is to offer something of such an incredibly high value for an insanely low and irresistible price. Very simply, you can segment one section of your existing product or service and offer it as a standalone product for a much cheaper price. Whether it’s the first chapter of an eBook or a 10 minute phone consultation, the high value, yet simple product will get your foot in the door and lead to larger sales in the future.

Return Path

You've now warmed your new visitor up toward your brand and products. Now, you have the opportunity to pitch additional products and upgraded products in order to maximize your profits. These strategy are what we call “Upselling” and “Profit Maximizing” and they can really take your business to the next level!

A lot of business owners focus so much on attracting new customers, they forget to market to what may be their best source of new sales… their existing customers. We’ve discussed how to turn new traffic into customers, but now we want to focus in on turning existing customers into return customers who buy frequently again and again.
