Its three piece welded construction is a com-pound section of a mild steel top flange andweb and a specially rolled high-carbon steellower rail. Strong, Durable RailTarca® vs. I-beamHigh carbon flange means longer track lifeA common source of track wear is a process known aspeening.Peeningis the gradual movement of metal over time, causedby the rollingaction of wheels. Becauseof I-beam’s mild steel construction, peeningtends to occur unevenly, weakening the beam flange and restrictingsmooth easy travel.Tarca® Track’s raised tread design and extra hard alloy steel constructionslow down the peening process.The full width of the raised tread wearsevenly, extending track life well beyond that of I-beams.

Our raised tread providesdurability and superiorsafetyThe raised tread on Tarca® Track is 20 - 25% of the Tarca® rail thickness.And though this does add some strength, our stresscalculations do notinclude the strength added by the raisedwearing tread. That meansyouget even more strength and dependability becausethe rated capacity ofthe track is not affected by wear.Since I-beams have virtually no raised tread, their initial load carryingcapacity is in the total crosssection. Asa result, capacity and safety aregreatly reduced as soon as the tread begins to wear.

Stop Throwing Away Your Installation Dollars!Our stringent quality standards in manufacturing guarantee consist-ently straight, high quality beams. Plate is cut to sizeand leveled byprecision machinery. Special equipment usescontinuous welds toinsure absolutely straight, uniform track. Standardmill practicedimensions for I-beams have tolerances more than twice those forTarca® rail. For example, allowable sweep per 10' of structural beammay be ashigh as1/4'' while Tarca® rail is lessthan half that at 3/32''.

Tarca® Keeps TruckMaintenance CompanyMoving

A Western New York company providesmaintenance and customization on heavytruck parts. Heavy parts weighing between1 and 3 tons are moved into the buildingand then 25’ acrossthe building to a stag-ing area where they are worked on.

ProblemPrior to installing a Tarca® system, the com-pany was using fork trucks to move theparts, but the fork trucks were causingcongestion, parts damage, and safetyissues.The company was also looking tomaximize the floor spacein the building sothey could make room for big trucks andparts, and they were hoping for a systemthat could be moved if needed.

SolutionThis company chose to install a 3-ton FreeStanding unbraced Tarca® systemwith a28’ bridge, 39’ runway, 16’ height underboom, and 37’ support centers.

Why was Tarca® the Smart Solution?The Tarca® systemis free standing, and thesupports are close to the building walls,allowing room in the facility for safe move-ment and storage of trucksand parts.Becausethe system is not braced to thewalls, it can be relocated if the need everarises. Crossover Track

1. Both bridge girders approach the crossovertrack. The operator pushesa but-ton powering a gear motor that activatesa pair of rollers (see Photo 1).

2. The bridges line up with the crossovertrack. The rollers move from theinterlocking beam toward a wedge type engaging mechanismon thecrossovertrack (see Photo 2).

3. The rollersmake contact with the wedge and self-align within 1-1/4" horizon-tal range. Asboth beams are interlocked, forks on powered and non-poweredbeams are raised for free passageof carrier (see Photo 3).

4. To disengage the interlock, the operator pushesa secondbutton. Motor driv-en rollers move back and away from wedge, allowing forks to drop and makecontact with rail tread. This prevents the carrier from travelling off the openend of the beam.

End StopEnd stops are required and must beprovided at the ends of the carrier ortrolley travel on bridges and at the endof crane travel on runways.Our end stops are unique in that theystrike the end of the load bar, ratherthan the wheels. This prevents thewheels from absorbing the force of theload and reduces the areasof wear.We offer standard wheel end stops forlighter applications and rubber, springor hydraulic bumpers for higher speedconditions.5

End TrucksEndtruck with drive for motorizedtravel on runwayGorbel® end trucks provide theconnection between the bridgeand runway.
