  • Brian Murphy presented the Vice Commodore’s award to Sue Hardy for her contribu-tions to sailboat racing at CPYC and writing the Wind-jammer Newsletter.

The Commodores Award this year will go to Bill Briggs. Commodore Schlichting called Bill a quiet unsung worker who quietly comes to CPYC on weekends, looks at the book with to do items listed and goes about taking

    care of them.

Officers Awards The officers awards were announced as follows and will be awarded at the Commodores Ball in June. Rear Commodore Pete Towner announced his award to go to Pat Leary for all of the work she has done procuring items for and decorating the Make-A-Wish Auction, and running the CPYC Store. (As Pat was not at the meeting the Windjammer does not have a picture of her at this time, only a sample of her talent.)

Election of one member to the Audit Committee as recommended by the Nominating Committee for three years: Ginny Gaeta Annual Report of the Treasurer Treasurer Kearny unable to attend due to business commitments left a written report where he highlighted that for 2017 Club Op-erations finished slightly in the BLACK. He thanked numerous club members for all the work they had done this year to make this possible. Further he stated that the club insurance coverage increased with out increasing premiums, the Pilot House renova-tion , a 10% saving in electricity costs in the last quarter of 2017 due to LED bulb replacement, and a range of successful entertain-ment activities. The contract with Millie’s Kitchen has been renegotiated which should bring new revenues. The FAA lease is under renegotiation this year. There is a new lease with Sigfox for an antenna on the roof. Annual Report of the Audit Committee The Audit Committee reported that they had done a comprehen-sive study of Pilot House inventory management. As a result they found no written policies and undertook writing Liquor Procure-ment Procedures which were approved by the Board of Directors. The purpose of this is to tighten the reconciliation between or-ders, deliveries, invoices and inventory. In place for a half year, there is already an improvement. The Committee goals for 2018 are to look at how cash, credit card receipts and other incomes are managed. Bylaw Changes (requires a 2/3 vote) Motion (1)” In accordance with Article III, Section I, D, to waive payment of the Initiation Fee until Match 1, 2019. The motion was passed unanimously.

Framed burgees were presented to outgoing Board members, Jonathan Marks, John Cataldo, and John Economides. Newly elected Commodore Murphy thanked those in attend-ance for their vote and support. He stated he looked forward to working with our talented membership and wants to in-volve more of the membership on committees. He ended by stating that this Commodore's Ball will be the first with air conditioning. Before closing the meeting, now Past Commodore Schlicht-ing said that it had been an honor to serve as commodore and was pleased to leave office in good shape. He thanked his BOD and the members for their support in always wanting to make it a a better club. The meeting adjourned at 8:10 PM

  • January Storm - High Tide—CPYC

Thanks to Barry Lawton for venturing out in the storm for these pictures. According to NOAA the tide peaked at 15 feet.

There was 8 inches of water on top of the pier. Water poured into the bath-rooms on the pier. The picnic tables moved in the high

    water and waves.

High Water under the bowling alleys

Water covered the Interclub trailer wheels to the hub caps.

    The easterly dinghy float

hoops cleared the top of the pilings in the waves.

Here a finger float hung up on the piling.

    Things Overheard During Bowling

For the women and men bowlers of CPYC

Who made up these teams? Who wants my job? There is something wrong with these alleys I hate alley four Reset What am I doing wrong? There is something wrong with these pins. Even when you hit them they do not go down. Who’s turn is it? Where is ____? Oh, in the bar! There’s a bump in the middle of the al-ley. What foul line? Who’s lobbing the ball? Who took my drink? Are we having fun yet? How come my average doe not go up? What alley am I on? How old are these sponges? Who knows how to score a strike on a strike on a strike? You mean there is an alley broken? Again? Any of these sound familiar?

    Monday Nights

Do you know what an oologist studies? Do you know who was the first president to live in the White House?

Do you know what popular book has these three words in common about it—grail — mystery—cryptic ?

These were three of the questions at the most recent Monday Night Trivia. Since fall, every other week, from 4 to 6 teams, and up to 25 players have tested their trivia knowledge against the re-search done by Patrice Berk and Janine Stanton. PS—the answers are somewhere in this issue.

  • CPYC Frost Biter Quoted in Globe “On the Move”

    Column

In a recent Globe “on the Move” article by Brian O’Con-nor on frostbiting at the Boston Sailing Center and Cot-tage Park Yacht Club, Linda Epstein shared why she started frostbite racing. Drawn to spend time and race with a friend she enjoyed the competitiveness of some of the best and hardiest sailors. She also enjoys introducing people to the sport, helping them dress for the weather. rig their boats and share experiences socializing after racing. Linda met her husband Tom Robinson frostbiting. To-day they are essential to the strength of this group of sail-ors. The Winthrop Frost Bite Sailing Association moved to CPYC from Marblehead seventeen years ago in 1995 and have been a welcome addition ever since then.

Winthrop Chamber of Commerce Presented CPYC with

CPYC member Dick Lawton was awarded the Chamber of Commerce Town Service award by Cham-

the numerous school construction projects and on town committees.
