I would like to begin with thanking Sh. Rajesh RathodHead Techno Commercial with Adani group for helpingus in providing the high quality professionals from thefield of Materials Management. We have another pearlof wisdom from the ocean of Adani Group – Mr. KumarMehta.

Great people have small resume. Mr. Kumar Mehta is BEMechanical with PGDPM – Post Graduate Diploma inProject Management.

Out of total professional work experience of 12 years, hespent the initial years with Essar Steel Limited at Haziraand now working with Adani Group as ManagerCommercial and Contracts.

towards the procurement is needed where the productlife cycle cost analysis is done.

I would like to request Mr. Mehta to take the stage andenlighten us with his experience of using TCO in theprocurement. Let us welcome Mr. Kumar Mehta with abig sound of applause.

Mr. Kumar Mehta made a very and informativepresentation on TCO. He explained that dynamic situationof globalization, trade & commerce have flourished andthus creating opportunities for the Buyer fraternity forvalue creation. Against conventional method where indirect cost are kept in mind for procurement decisionmaking the concept of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)concept applies lifecycle cost analysis.

He focussed on practical approach towards the use ofTCO. The application of the concept was explained bygiving few examples of value creation using this approachv/s use of conventional procurement methods.

He explained that TCO analysis includes total cost ofacquisition and operating costs as well costs related toreplacement or upgrades at the end of the life cycle.According to him the TCO analysis is used to gauge theviability of any capital investment. An enterprise may useit as a product/process comparison tool. It is also usedby credit markets and financing agencies. TCO directlyrelates to an enterprise’s asset and/or related systemstotal costs across all projects and processes, thus givinga picture of the profitability over time.

Mr. Rajesh C Rathod, Hon. Fellow Member presented amemento on behalf of participants to knowledgeablespeaker of the evening.

Lecture Meeting on 20.02.2016 : A lecture meeting wasorganized on 20th February 2016 at the RMCE premises, where the branch chairman, Mr. K M Bhardwaj, spokeabout the recent Developments in the supply chainmanagement. He said that successful supply chainmanagement requires cross-functional integration andmarketing must play a critical role. The challenge is todetermine how to successfully accomplish thisintegration. We present a framework for supply chainmanagement as well as questions for how it might beimplemented and questions for future research.

As we think about the major trends that will affect thenext generation of supply chains, we need to considercertain macroeconomic factors. Prominent among theseis the changing global economic demographics. Walk intoany multinational consumer goods or manufacturingcompany today and you’re sure to hear a lot of discussionabout the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) markets.

The GDP growth in those countries far exceeds thegrowth in more fully developed economies. Further, thesheer number of consumers in these countries alreadyaccounts for about 40 percent of the world’s population. And by 2050, their combined economies are expectedto eclipse that of the world’s richest countries—includingthe U.S. and European Union.

Another macro-economic reality to consider is theshortage of knowledge workers to satisfy the needs ofthe expanding markets. Studies show that theseshortages are beginning to be felt in the immediate term.

Some of this shortage will be offset by the Baby Boomerswanting (or needing) to work longer to overcomelingering effects of the latest recession. In any case, theshortage of skilled workers overall underpins several ofthe specific trends present below.

The 10 trends identified are listed below which are goingto affect the SCM in the coming years.

1. Service Chains will become more important thanproduct chains.

2. Companies will need to fully report corporateexternalities.

3. Supply Chains must be designed to serve the “Baseof the Pyramid”.

4. Knowledge work and workers will become global innature.

5. SCM will have a standard certification processsimilar to that for CPAs.

6. Product Clockspeeds will determine the number andnature of supply chains.

7. Micro segmentation will be key to success.

8. Technology to support SCM will primarily be “ontap”.

9. Leaders will leverage social media in a closed loopfeedback process.

10. Artificial Intelligence will be imbedded inmainstream supply chain management.

At the beginning, Mr. Shambhu Shekhar, Vice Chairmanof the branch welcomed the speaker by presenting aflower bouquet. The session was very interactive wheremany people asked for clarifications. The vote of Thankswas proposed by Mr. G R Murti, NC member.
