Körbel († 1999), from the prov- ince of Tyrol, gave a new life to the Servite presence in Germany. A parish was given to them in Gelsenkir- chen-Buer (Münster Diocese, in Westphalia). Fra Kör- bel was appointed as Parish Priest, while fra Schifflers was the Prior of the Community. The Parish Church was dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The first document which speaks of the presence of Servites in Germany is dated 1272 (during the gen- eralate of St. Philip Benizi), which talks about a Priory in Köln (Cologne). The development of Servite pres- ence in the German Province (which had around twen- ty priories) ends in the 15 th century soon after the Protestant Reformation. The Order was re-founded by the help of Germanic Observances in places where the German language was spoken (1613-14). The 1714 General Chapter reconstituted the German Province separating a few priories from the Bohemian Province. The last Servite priory (Kreuzberg near Bonn) was fi- nally closed in 1802. Coming back to the recent history of the Servite pres- ence in Germany, the new foundation of the Holy Cross Priory in Düsseldorf (1956) allowed the 1959 General Chapter to unite the two communities into a new German jurisdiction. At Weihenlinden (Bayern) a third community was started, which was passed to the Tyrol Province in 1967 and it was closed in 1973. The German Vicariate was constituted in 1968, which start- ed the foundation at Viehhausen (Diocese of Regens- burg), later it was closed in 1989. The German Servite presence became a delegation of the Tyrol Province in 1999. Since the Servite presence came to an end at Düsseldorf in 2003, the only remaining priory of Gel- senkirchen-Buer was given to the Tyrol Province, thus the end of the German Delegation. The contemplative Servite sisters’ monastery is very significant in Munich (founded in the beginning of 18 th Century). From the beginning the sisters practiced per- petual Eucharistic adoration. 7. M S : Permanent Formation Following a suggestion of the General Chapter (Pietralba 2013), the Monte Senario Community or-ganized a three day seminar on the Rule and the Constitutions of the Order with the title “briciole del Vangelo” – “crumbs of Gospel” (based on the defini-tion of fra Andrea M. Cecchin, in his memory). The professed from St. Alexis Falconieri College, Rome, and the novices from Monte Senario were present along with other friars and lay people. 8. D R : Thanks to the Holy Land We, the friars who lived in the Holy Land, thank all the people who have made possible this Servite presence in the land of our Lord Jesus Christ, the cradle and the growth of our Christian faith. The land in itself has nothing extraordinary, but it is our faith that makes it important. This transcendental value makes this place important and unique. A

place visited by almost all Christians. It is the place where a person renews his faith, having a personal contact with the Word in its contextual reality and understands his own faith. All these will help us to understand why God selected this place. The desert is the place to meet Him. The nothingness will push a person to meet Him and to be with Him in the de-sert. It is through the love of God that we come to know the plan of God in each one’s life, which is unique and unrepeatable. We are invited freely to be with Him, the beloved. Thank you very much, my dear brothers and sisters of the Order, and all who have helped us through prayer and with your material support to settle our-selves with necessary things, leaving all our com-forts and to be available to announce the Gospel through our pilgrimage in the Holy Land. Let our Blessed Virgin Mother help us to fulfil the will of God: “Do whatever He tells you”, thus we can be-come witnesses to our brothers and sisters who will have the opportunity to visit the Holy Land. May our Lord Jesus Christ bless us and may our Blessed Virgin Mother accompany us. Amen.
