CORVETTE COURIER
It was the best of times; it was the worst of times.
That quote from Charles Dickens was true then as it
is today. These tough economic times have taken a
toll on all of us and the sequester impacts are about
to be felt, but we have much to be thankful for.
First off, I want to thank Rich Culley and all of the
members of our E Board for their diligence and
inspiration during the past year. We never knew
what to expect each month at our GOCC meetings,
but were always surprised by exciting events and
festivities. We all had fun and made a positive
impact in our community.
Thanks also go to our sponsors. I truly appreciate
the dedication and faithfulness of each one. Many
of them have been associated with us for a long
time, while others just came on during this past year
or so. Remember them as your first choice on your
next purchase for goods and services they offer.
They are great people to deal with and we should be
part of their success. And if it is time to refresh that
Corvette, Grey Chevrolet has only one 2013
Corvette remaining in stock – but they have an
allocation for one of the first C7s when production
starts at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant. If you
want a new C7, it is probably not too early to get
your name on the list. Give Flip Grey a call.
Thanks also to all members of GOCC for
entrusting me to lead this organization for the next
year. This will be my 5th year in serving as your
president and I know that I will not be bored. I am
humbled and honored. I will outline my vision for the
future at the next meeting, so please try to be there.
I also recognize that the sequester impacts will be
upon us soon. 25% of the workforce in Kitsap
County is Federal employees working at Naval Base
Kitsap. That workforce will see one furlough day
each week from now through September resulting in
a 20% cut in pay. There are some GOCC members
affected by this. As a group, we need to be mindful

of this, pull together and help one another through
this time. Inviting someone to share a meal, having a
spur of the moment pot luck dinner, or other random
acts of kindness are simple things we can do for our
fellow members. If you have mechanic skills,
perhaps you can help with maintenance on a
member’s Corvette. My garage and car lift are
available, if you need it. So I encourage you to reach
out to those in need and share your success stories
as an encouragement for us all.
There are exciting times ahead. We will get through
these tough times. We are on the eve of C7
production and the National Corvette Museum
Caravan will take place next year. Take time to enjoy
your Corvette and invite someone new to come with
you to the next meeting.

Corvette of the Month Craig & Deborah White's 1989 Red Coupe
Craig’s Story: I bought the car in May of 2012. It had been sitting by the side of Anderson Hill Rd with a for sale sign on it for weeks but was in such bad shape that nobody wanted to touch it – even for the measly $3.5K they were asking. I had wanted a Corvette ever since high school, so one day I took the bait and stopped to look at the car. Climbing over it and under it, I could see body damage, a bad paint job and an interior that looked awful. When the owner came out, I looked under the hood: as far as I could tell, everything was stock. A quick test drive showed - even with
93K miles - the engine ran strong, tranny shifted correctly, no front-end pull – car seemed sound. So I handed over cash and became the owner of my very first Corvette. I took the car to Bruce over at Town & Country in Chico who went over the car with a fine-tooth comb. Only damage he found was a small hole in the oil pan. Still, I had him give it a full tune-up, install new injectors, new steering box, brakes, Bilstein gas shocks, and rear axle U-joints that were worn. Finally, I purchased a new set of Michelin Pilot Sports at Costco for a great price.

News & Information from page 3
The car still had intermittent starting problems so I took it to Corvettes of Auburn where Dan made the necessary electrical repairs. One look around C of A convinced me these guys were real pros at paint and body work, so I left the car in their hands for what became a period of over 4 months. I followed their work on it closely, made decisions on paint and trim, and when I finally picked up my car in January of this year, the body had been completely removed, the damaged parts repaired or replaced, and it was repainted “torch red”. The transformation was amazing; it looked like a show car! Next, I began to work on the interiors: Door panels, carpeting, sill covers, rear cargo area trim, red and black neoprene seat covers, steering wheel, dash and console repair, new rear view mirror glass – and I had Car Toys install a new Alpine stereo system to replace the old, worn-out Bose! So, that’s where the car is today. I still have new parts to install under the hood and some more “fixes” to do inside, but I’m getting there. Although (from a distance) the car looks almost show-quality, what I really want to do is to drive it: some cruises, meets, and frequent trips to town (we live in Seabeck). In May, I’ll be taking a performance driving class from the Pro-Formance school in Kent which will involve both classroom work and an afternoon of track-driving using my car – and pushing it to its limits. Really looking forward to that. While my wife, Debbie, doesn’t exactly share my passion for the car (she almost strangled me for buying it), she has come around to the point where she loves riding in it and really is amazed at the transformation in the car’s appearance.
