RELIGIOUS EDUCATION REGISTRATION

All classes begin on Sunday September 22nd. Pass the word to friends, neighbors, and extended family members. All are welcome! We have classes for children in Kindergarten through High School. In addition to grade level instruction, we prepare the children for the sacraments as they are ready.

Registration forms and schedules were recently mailed to all parents who had children registered this past year. If you did not receive this, or if you are new, you may pick up a registration packet at the rectory or at the ramp entrance of the church. If you prefer, you may wait to register at the parish center on the first day of classes. Your children will be placed in their grade-level class immediately.

Classes for Kindergarten through Grade 8 are held at the Parish Center at 34 Common St. on Sundays as scheduled (about three per month).

High School Confirmation classes are held in the Rectory Meeting Rooms at 35 Essex St. on Sundays as scheduled (about two per month).

Classes for both groups are held from 10:15am to 11:45am, conveniently timed for family attendance at either the 9:00am English Mass or the 12:00pm Spanish Mass.

Clergy Health and Retirement Trust

Across Greater Boston, we are blessed with priests who enliven and enrich not only our parishes but our surrounding communities. Through their ministry, they work tirelessly to bring Christ’s love to all those who need it. Truly, the strength and vibrancy of our parishes and broader communities depend on the health and well-being of our priests.

Please support our priests by making a gift to the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust at clergytrust.org or by giving generously to the upcoming special collection this weekend.

This dedicated second collection is a primary source of funding to care for our priests. Your generosity is very much appreciated.

THANK YOUTHANK YOUTHANK YOUTHANK YOU

By Dr. Scott Hahn Seeking the Lost

Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle C) Exodus 32:7-11, 13-14 Psalm 51:3-4, 12-13, 17, 19 1 Timothy 1:12-17 Luke 15:1-10

The episode in today's First Reading has been called "Israel's original sin." Freed from bondage, born as a people of God in the covenant at Sinai, Israel turned aside from His ways, fell to worshipping a golden calf. Moses implores God's mercy, as Jesus will later intercede for the whole human race, as He still pleads for sinners at God's right hand and through the ministry of the Church. Israel's sin is the sin of the world. It is your sin and mine. Ransomed from death and made His children in Baptism, we fall prey to the idols of this world. We remain a "stiff-necked people," resisting His will for us like an ox refuses the plowman's yoke (see Jeremiah 7:26). Like Israel, in our sin we push God away, reject our divine sonship. Once He called us "my people" (see Exodus 3:10; 6:7). But our sin makes us "no people," people He should, in justice, disown (see Deuteronomy 32:21; 1 Peter 2:10). Yet in His mercy, He is faithful to the covenant He swore by His own self in Jesus. In Jesus, God comes to Israel and to each of us - as a shepherd to seek the lost (see Ezekiel 34:11-16), to carry us back to the heavenly feast, the perpetual heritage promised long ago to Abraham's children. "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners," Paul cries in today's Epistle. These are the happiest words the world has ever known. Because of Jesus, as Paul himself can testify, even the blasphemer and persecutor can seek His mercy. As the sinners do in today's Gospel, we draw near to listen to Him. In this Eucharist, we bring Him the acceptable sacrifice we sing of in today's Psalm - our hearts, humbled and contrite. In the company of His angels and saints, we rejoice that He has wiped out our offense, celebrate with Him - that we have turned from the evil way that we might live (see Ezekiel 18:23).

By Dr. Scott Hahn Buscando a los perdidos. 24o Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle C)

Ez 18,23).

Healthier Priests. Stronger Communities.

Funds from this special collection are managed by the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust – an independently managed trust with a majority lay board of trustees. The funds are used for the sole benefit of active and senior priests in good standing.

The strength and vibrancy of our communities depend largely on the welfare of our priests who tirelessly serve others from all walks of life.

Powerful examples of strength in community are visible across 144 cities and towns of the Archdiocese of Boston. The roots of these communities can be traced back to the work of our priests.

Pine Street Inn: A Boston priest was one of the original founders of Pine Street Inn, which provides shelter and emergency services for nearly 2,000 homeless men and women in the Boston area every day.

Cor Unum: Started by a Lawrence pastor, Cor Unum (“One Heart”) food pantry serves more than 250,000 meals annually to poverty-stricken families in Lawrence.

Addiction Support for Families: A Boston priest’s expertise in addiction and recovery has been instrumental for organizations helping families and individuals in the grips of addiction.

Rostro de Cristo: Efforts to help the poor on the margins of Ecuador’s largest city is hard work, except for those who have been inspired by a Boston priest who started Rostro de Cristo, an organization based in Boston that lives the Gospel and serves the poor.

It’s simple: healthier priests mean stronger communities. Please support clergytrust.org
