The elderly patient in daily private practiceCurrent challenges in diagnosis and treatment

The elderly patient will be one of the major challenges of dental medicine in the coming decades due to changing demographics. The life expectancy of people in industrialized countries has increased to over 90 years for males and females alike. What might read as good news first, also comes along with many problems for dental treatment planning and maintenance. The aging population exhibits distinct differences in functional and cognitive aspects, and also with regard to systemic diseases and their treatment in comparison to their younger counterparts. These factors all have a direct impact on general prosthodontic concepts for an aged population, which influence planning of dental implant therapy, and the selection of minimally invasive and maximally effective treatment modalities. This one-day symposium will focus on all these aspects mentioned, and will discuss treatment and follow-up concepts that can be utlizied in pricate practice to offer optimal care for the elderly patient.
