GUARANTEED PROGRAMHudson County Schools of Technology has developed a Guaranteed Quality Assurance (Warranty) Program that is offered to employers who hire its program completer. HCST guarantees that the students have mastered the program skills as defined by the standards of the District. If an employer certifies that a student is deficient in one or more skills, the District will retrain the graduate or completer at no cost to the graduate, program completer, or employer.

GOALS AND OPERATIONAL GUIDELINES
POST SECONDARY PROGRAMS Hudson Technical is a Post Secondary Program offered to provide high school graduates with the training they need to compete in today’s high-tech and fast-paced industries. Students enroll in a highly specialized, proficiency based program of studies for the Fall and Spring semesters. Guidance, job placement, and career counseling are also available. Students must complete all admission and credit requisites. SEE PAGE 5 FOR DETAILS.
REGISTRATION In person or online, during the stated periods should be considered the best option to guarantee admission. Class sizes are limited. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. A student will not be considered enrolled until all fees are paid. Students cannot register by mail.
COST AND COURSE CANCELLATIONS Tuition fees are listed in the brochure, payable by Money Order, Discover, VISA, or MasterCard only, NO CASH accepted. The school reserves the right to cancel any class for which there is insufficient enrollment at no cost to the student. (See extra discounts on next page)
REFUND POLICY Refunds will be granted for any course the school cancels. Students requesting refunds or class changes must do so before the second class meeting. There are no refunds issued after the first week of class. A $10.00 cancellation fee will be charged for all refunds.
PARKING Limited free parking areas are available. Please carpool and use mass transit. Designated parking spaces are available for disabled persons. Improperly parked cars will be towed away at the owner’s expense.
CLASSROOM CONDUCT Students are expected to conduct themselves as adults, in a mature manner, and will be treated as such. They are required to devote their attention to the work at hand and to be in order at all times. HCST will not tolerate disrespect or any other antisocial attitudes or behavior.
ATTENDANCE POLICY All Post Secondary students are required to maintain a minimum attendance rate of 80%, failure to do so may result in disciplinary action and/or inability of a student to certify upon course completion. Excused absences will be granted through the approval of the director. Some courses require compliance with additional attendance rules, see course description for further details.
AWARDING OF CERTIFICATES Students mastering a 70 percent proficiency (including class participation, homework, class assignments and final exam where applicable) will be presented with a certificate of completion.
USE OF ALCOHOL & ILLEGAL DRUGS It is illegal to have and/or use alcohol or illegal drugs on public property. Violators of this regulation will be handled by the appropriate authorities.
SMOKING In accordance with state law, smoking is not permitted anywhere in the school or on school grounds.

SCHOOL BUS TRANSPORTATION Is available, see the back of this catalog for schedule.
BOOKS & SUPPLIES Books/supplies will be distributed to the students, where applicable. Books are the property of the school and have to be returned at the end of the semester.
MANAGEMENT AND/OR IN-PLANT COURSES Hudson Technical is always willing to cooperate with industry to retrain and upgrade its employees by providing special in-plant courses. Development of such programs can be arranged by management, industry and labor organizations in conjunction with the school administration.
SAFETY Students are to observe all safety precautions. All students are required by State Law to wear industrial eye protection devices while attending or visiting any shop or laboratory in which caustic or explosive chemicals, hot liquids, solids or hot molten metals are present. Also, where welding or any type of repair or servicing of vehicles, heat treatment or tempering of metals, or the nulling, sawing, stamping or cutting of solid materials or any similar dangerous process is taught, exposure to which may have a tendency to cause damage to the eyes, requires protective eye gear. Students may not use personal items in class. Students who attempt to use personal items in class will be immediately excluded from participating.

POST SECONDARY PROGRAMS
The recent trend in technological developments has dramatically changed employment opportunities in Hudson County by creating new and challenging jobs. Since 1990 over sixteen thousand students at Hudson Technical have completed their educational requirements in order to advance themselves socially as well as financially. In keeping with the fast paced times, Hudson Technical’s post secondary program is offering a variety of exciting and comprehensive educational programs designed for immediate placement.
To be admitted, a student must meet the following Post Secondary Admission Requirements:
1.Have a High School Diploma or Equivalent.* 2.Complete admission application and submit a tuition fee prior to the start of class. *Special arrangements could be made for High School seniors on an individual basis.
Spanish speakers will receive language assistance on selected courses.Classes are proficiency based with limited enrollments to prepare students for the final comprehensive test andcareer placement. Additionally, guidance, career planning, and placement services are also available.

3D printing is becoming an essential tool in design and digital fabrication. The ability to use 3D modeling tools comes very handy in the process. It lets students use simple controls for creating geometric shapes and patterns, allowing to create detailed models with wide-ranging possibilities. This course is approved by the N.J. Real Estate Commission as a prerequisite for the real estate salesperson license examination. The course is also open to those who desire knowledge of buying and selling real estate. A+ certification is an international industry credential that validates theknowledge of computer service technicians with the equivalent of 180 hours of hands-on experience. Major hardware and software vendors, distributors, and resellers accept A+ as the standard in foundation-level, vendor-neutral certification for computer service technicians. A+ Certification proves that a candidate has a broad base of knowledge and competency in hardware and operating system technologies including installation, configuration, diagnosing, preventive maintenance, and basic networking. In this ten month course, students will learn how to develop detailed mechanical and architectural drawings using state of the art computers and the latest version of the Auto CAD software. Emphasis will be on proper selection of views, placement of dimensions, use of drawing commands, and working in a Windows environment. Students will also explore the world of 3D technology and will learn how to develop realistic computerized 3D models. Students will design projects with applications in the areas of architectural, civil, electronic, electromechanical, and technical illustrating. Editing techniques such as hatching, polylines, dimensioning, and blocks will also be employed. Multi-view drawings, sectional view drawings, and auxiliary views will be introduced. Students will also become proficient in the user coordinate system.

Today clear business communication on the internet is essential. Knowing the universal language of HTML 5 with CSS you will be able to create a web site for you professional needs. Knowing how to use the controls on a digital camera will give you a foundation to compose good photographs for both commercial and personal use. This two in one course will cover the history, philosophy, and structure of both World Wide Internet and the world of photography. This course will teach hand coding using correct web standards and how to launch a web site using URL and hosting services. On the photography side, this course will cover the controls of the digital camera, composition, lighting and color correction photographs. The Culinary Arts course is a 10 month program designed for the person who is serious about learning the art of cooking and is interested in pursuing a career in the Hospitality industry, or for those interested in serious home entertaining. The course emphasizes individual attention and hands-on participation that will lead to mastery in basic culinary skills and techniques. The course stresses high quality rather than quantity food preparation. Upon successful completion of the course students will be better equipped to find and retain employment in the food service industry. Additionally, students will be taught the understanding of the structure and functions of standardized recipes. The basic skill of baking will also be introduced.
The culinary arts program includes a sixteen-hour course in ServSafe® Food Safety Certification. The Health Care Association of New Jersey offers the ServSafe® Food Safety Certification Course developed by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation to provide certification. This course meets the requirements for food manager certification and re-certification mandated effective January 2010- Chapter 24 (N.J.A.C. 8:24). An in-class examination to become a ServSafe® Certified Food Service Manager will be administered. The purpose of the course is to prepare operators who are equipped in terms of skill and knowledge to render cosmetology service that is safe, efficient, and in conformity with established minimum standards for this work in New Jersey. All cosmetology skills including manicure will be taught. Those completing this course will be eligible to take the State Board of Beauty Culture examination for an operator’s license, providing they have a high school diploma or the equivalent. Students must attend class for a total of 1,000 hours, 90% weekly attendance, and lab coats are required.
Includes a six hour course in AIRMAKEUP. As part of the Cosmetology program Airmakeup is a revolutionary new way to learn and apply airbrush makeup for the professional beauty student. The student will also learn the technicalities of airbrush make-up and compressors. The final approach for the client includes foundation, eyeshadow, eyebrow stencil, blush, and adding traditional makeup to your Airmakeup. The fee for the class is included in the cosmetology class. This course will review the basics of units and conversion and introduce the natural hydrologic cycle. An overview of wastewater treatment will be presented which includes wastewater characterization, the collection system, and unit processes. The common wastewater treatment processes will be covered in detail. Preliminary treatment with its various modifications and final clarification will be presented. The principles of evaluation and control of water pollution are extended to describe aerobic treatment processes, which include oxidation ponds, trickling filters, and activated sludge. Anaerobic digestion, sludge handling, and disposal are included. Process control techniques along with sampling and laboratory analysis will be introduced. This course is taught at off-site location in collaboration with Waste Water Plant.

The Adult High School Program of the Hudson County Schools of Technology is a nontraditional, adult secondary program established in 1978. The Hudson County Schools of Technology Board of Education, as well as the New Jersey State Department of Education, have approved the concepts, policies, organization, and content of this Adult High School Program.
The basic objective of the Adult High School Program is to recognize those adults who have not completed high school but who have continued to gain knowledge and skills through educational, employment and personal sources. The HCST Adult High School Program will provide counseling and academic advisement with regard to different types of credit needed to complete the adult high school graduation requirement and will assess all acquired skills and knowledge for adult high school credit.
The HCST Adult High School Program has registration twice a year. The program operates ten months a year.
To qualify for enrollment in High School, a person must: 1. Be a Hudson County resident. 2. Be at least 16 years of age and no longer enrolled in a Secondary School. Persons 16 and 17 years of age must complete a Certificate of Consent signed by a parent or guardian in order to participate in an Adult High School Program. 3. Have not earned a locally issued, state endorsed high school diploma. 4. Students will be charged a $150.00 processing fee per semester (2 Semesters Fall & Spring).

In this course students will receive an intense hands on lab experience utilizing video cameras. The students will learn how to cut/edit HD footage of weddings, vacations, sports’ highlights. PSA and other media related film footage. Students will also learn the foundations of importing audio files into Adobe Premiere and incorporating sound effects to develop a final piece of film. Intro to video production addresses the theory and practice of film/video production. Students will be expected to understand: camera operation, audio control, basic directing, lighting, and editing. Introduction to graphic design is designed to develop students’ understanding and appreciation for design. By raising students’ awareness of design, this course will serve as a strong foundation in the basic principles of graphic design.
