On behalf of the 2019 ISONG Congress Planning Committee we invite you to join us at the 2019 Congress: “Transforming Health through Genomic Nursing.” The Wyndham San Antonio Riverwalk will be the perfect setting to connect with genetics and nursing colleagues from the United States and around the world.

Nurses are called to transform healthcare and genetics/genomics nurses will be at the forefront of that transformation. We look forward to exciting presentations by our keynote speakers, and abstract and poster presenters.

New for this year, we will have Expert Lectures by ISONG members who are transforming health through innovations in research, education, practice and policy. The presentations have been chosen to meet the following objectives:

• Understand the transformative nature of genomic nursing science on global health.

• Explore future applications of genomic nursing to foster healthy populations.

• Articulate the role of nurses in leading advances in genomic health.

Additionally, the Education Committee and the Congress Committee are excited to offer Pre-Congress Sessions

based on survey feedback. These sessions will take place on Thursday, November 7, 2019.

We encourage you to join us in San Antonio and look forward to greeting you. Please remember the vital

support of our Congress sponsors and visit each exhibit to learn about new and valuable contributions to health

care and education.

Sincerely,

Michael Groves, PhD, RN, CNE Lynnette Howington, DNP, RNC, WHNP –BC, CNL Congress Co-chair Congress Co-chair

Social Connections The 2019 ISONG Congress Hospitality Committee has planned ways to connect and join the attendees with activities, both professionally and socially. Committee members will be identified with star pins at the Congress. Please see any of them if you need help or would like to join the activities. The Committee will be using the hashtag #ISONGsocial to help attendees connect for dinner or any other activities during downtime.

Pre-Congress Sessions This year we are proud to feature the ISONG Pre-Congress Sessions which will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2019. These sessions have been developed to meet the growing need for genetics education and for those who are seeking more in-depth research, evidence and applications for their practice. These programs will include cutting edge presentations for attendees of all skill levels and nursing backgrounds.

Expert Lectures

ISONG’s membership includes talented scientists, educators and clinicians who are advancing genetics through their innovations in research, education, practice and policy. We are excited to provide 12 Expert Lectures to stimulate a robust exchange of knowledge and discussion. These lectures highlight exciting advances in various areas of our field.

Global Panel Session

The Global Panel will focus on genetic/genomic nursing research, education, clinical practice, and policy topics. Using a question-based format, global genetic nursing leaders will discuss their experiences, challenges, and strategies to advance genetic/genomic nursing. The session will feature panel-audience interaction to foster understanding of global issues and opportunities for growth.

ISONG Awards and Grants

The Founders’ Awards honor ISONG members who have demonstrated excellence in genomic nursing practice, education or research. The three fields reflect the vision of ISONG to advance genomic nursing practice, education and research worldwide. The President’s Award is for an ISONG Member who displays outstanding service, dedication and leadership. These awards make it possible for ISONG as a professional organization to recognize members who are leaders in genetic/genomic nursing and health care. The awards will be presented during the Congress as noted in the program.

Abstract and Poster Sessions The ISONG Congress Planning Committee would like to thank both those who submitted abstracts and the reviewers who provided their invaluable time and expertise to this year’s ISONG Congress. The 2019 Abstract Sessions reflect a focus on the titles as listed and offer current and late breaking information in genetics/genomics. Abstracts that were accepted for poster presentations will have their posters displayed throughout the Congress. Also, the attendees will have the opportunity to meet with the poster authors at the Poster Reception. Refer to the program for details about the oral abstracts and poster presentations.

Reviewers’ Choice Abstracts

This year the three top scoring abstract submissions will be highlighted during a session on Saturday afternoon. These top scoring abstracts include diverse topics across clinical practice and research. You are sure to find this session interesting and engaging.

Congress Attendees Say It Best

“Congress is truly a transformational process for me. The most beneficial aspect is the exposure to exciting genomic research and learning about novel applications to education and clinical practice. I particularly benefit from the one on one poster interactions; rare case reports are my favorite.”

Rebecca Kronk, PhD, MSN, CRNP, FAAN, CNE Duquesne University School of Nursing

"Attending ISONG Congress as a student has been integral to my overall progression. Aside from the expected benefits of networking with like-minded individuals in the field, the added benefit of mentorship has been invaluable. As a graduate student, I met several nursing experts in genomics who I now consider mentors, colleagues and friends. The collegial and friendly environment of ISONG is definitely student-friendly and I highly recommend attending to students at all levels, not only the graduate level!"

Mallory Perry, PhD, RN, CPN, CCRN Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia

“The ISONG Congress is a fabulous place to learn what is new in the field of genetics. You get a cutting-edge view of what is to come so you can be ahead of the wave.”
