My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

We celebrate First Communion this weekend. What a joy-filled occasion!

Dear Children,

Today is a very special day in your lives. Today you re-ceive Jesus in Holy Communion. Always remember this very special day and the profound love Jesus has for you. Your family, your friends, Father Winkel, Deacon Chor-das, and I are so very proud of you. God bless you today and always.

Fr. Ireland

Echoing my letter from last week, let me once again thank everyone who worked so hard and participated in last Sat-urday’s Main Event. It was a most enjoyable evening. How wonderful it is when we come together as a parish to socialize and benefit our church. The numbers show a “to date profit” from the work of our hands of $55,000. There are still a couple of small unpaid bills to reconcile and per-haps a couple of deposits that still need to be made. A final figure will be provided as soon as it is available.

In the meantime, let me acknowledge each and every one who made this such a wonderful success ~ to those who bought or sold tickets, solicited donations, or provided gifts to be auctioned: Thank You!! ~ to Marianne Chordas and Rose Basilone who worked extra hours in and out of the office, to Doug and Denise for their happy faces dur-ing set up and clean up and to Jeanne Walsh, Diane & Bob Reimer, Holly Reilly, Kris Smith, Kelsey Letizio and members of Corpus Christi Academy Athletic Boosters, the Ladies’ Guild, and the Knights of Columbus for their assistance with food prep and service: Thank You!!! ~ to Mario Fioritto, our volunteer “auctioneer”, who did an outstanding job with the LIVE AUCTION and saved us a few thousand dollars along the way: A HUGE THANK YOU!! ~ and last, but not least, a special thank you goes out to Eileen Gerome and Joanne Novak who co-chaired the entire fundraising effort, developing and orchestrating every fine detail with one goal in mind: DON’T SPEND ANY MONEY...THE IDEA IS TO RAISE $$$. I think we all can say, THANK YOU. YOU KEPT YOUR PROMISE and DELIVERED THE VERY BEST YOU WERE ABLE. Please review the list of donors provided on page 6 to see the comprehensive effort that was put forth by so many on behalf of our parish To them we say: THANK YOU!! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH.

May God’s blessings be yours this week, Fr. Ireland

From the Pastor ‘s Desk The Pastor Answers ...

Question:

Why don’t you just use the money collected for the elevator from the Rooted in Faith Campaign for the doors and awn-ings? Where is that money? Answer:

First, let me assure you that the money is in a special ac-count in the Credit Union and currently totals $171,018. This money reflects the $201,333 received from the Diocese from that campaign plus the interest received on these moneies, less withdrawls as follows: $25,000 to assist with the startup of Corpus Christi Academy and $6,100 for the feasibility and design study for the elevator. As you will remember, originally the benefit to Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish from this campaign was earmarked to assist with the school and to provide handicapped accessibility to the Church Hall and possibly the choir loft. As the money donated for the Rooted in Faith Campaign was given with a specific purpose in mind, I believe a change in use would have to be for very compelling rea-sons. Working with the Knights of Columbus, we really would like to make better use of the facility that we have and make it accessible for all members of our parish. The Finance Council will be meeting on this topic. Thank you for your question.

Each year in the Diocese of Cleveland a special collection is taken up in all parishes to support the Catechetical Ministries of the Office of Cate-chetical Formation & Education. Funding from this collection supports Newman Campus Minis-try, Adult Faith Formation, Media Literacy, Par-ish Catechetical Leadership training and Cate-

chist Certification. This year the collection will be held on the weekend of May 13-14, 2017. A contribution to the Catecheti-cal Ministries is an investment in the faith formation and reli-gious education of every person of every age in the Diocese. Please consider giving a gift to this very special collection.

In the spirit of remembering all that Christ gained for us through His suffering and death on the Cross and finally His victory over death, let us turn to him in prayer, remembering all those sick and suffering, as well as those homebound or confined to nursing homes: Daniel Day, Joyce Gideon, James Gordon Miller, Barbara Gura, Antoinette Hobson, William Ice, Allen King, Mary Neumann, Car-mela Pacini, Gregory Stephan Porter, Divine Rinella, Sally Rum-mel, E. Joseph Stanziano, Jean Siebert, Judy Wolen, Aida Kin-czel, Thomas Bannan, Cecilia Guccio, Sally Nousek, Alexander Verni, Helen Shanker, and members of the Clegg family.

SAVE THE DATE! August 6, 2017

A full life. As we celebrate the joy of Easter and the promise of new life in Christ, mark your calendars and plan to join us this summer at The Fest– our 17th annual Catholic Family FESTival– Sunday, August 6, 2017. The theme for FEST 2017 is– A FULL LIFE. Come and hear the best of Christian artists: Laura Story, Matt Maher, Crowder and for King & Country. There are plenty of ac-tivities and displays, along with rock walls, BMX shows, and so much more. You will also want to check out the Marc’s Mom’s Relaxation Station. It’s the perfect family day and a great opportunity to help your family celebrate our faith in Jesus Christ. It’s an exciting day as we cele-brate a fullness of life in Christ. To learn more go to: www.theFEST.us.

FAMILY PERSPECTIVE

“As I have loved you, so you should also love one anoth-er.” In Follow the Way of Love our bishops state: “What you do in your family to create a community of love…is critical, not only for you but for the strength of society and our church. It is a participation in the work of the Lord, a sharing in the mission of the Church. It is holy.” A high calling indeed! The everyday actions and interactions of family members are one of the main ways Christ acts in the world. Families, be true to your calling. Ask the Holy Spirit for help in being families who love one another.

WOMEN’S GUILD MASS– MAY 21

Just a reminder, May 21@ 10am is the annual Women's Guild Mass. All members are encouraged to attend and sit in the front pews on the Sacred Heart of Jesus side of the Church. Hope to see you there!

May Follow-Up Appeal for Catholic Charities

On the weekend of May 13-14, we will participate in a fol-low-up In-Pew appeal for Catholic Charities, which will benefit the Hungry and Homeless. The money raised from this Appeal will provide for fundamental needs, such as food, hot meals, shower facilities, and clothing, as well as training and case management programs that provide for new beginnings. All new, increased and additional gifts made in the in-pew envelopes or donated online at www.CatholicCommunity.org/challenge will be matched dollar for dollar up to $100,000 and all proceeds will be invested in the Hungry and Homeless by providing for those who are most vulnerable.

Take a look at all these wonderful donors and bene-factors for our Main Event 2017. Thank you to each of you. Parishioners, families, and Friends:

God Bless our 2nd Grade students who made their First Communion this weekend at both Sacred Heart of Jesus and Saint Clare parishes. We are excited to have them share in the Body and Blood of Christ.

The Corpus Christi Academy 6th grade students are collecting items for the Ozanam Center from May 1- May 12. The

center is located in St. Philomena Church helping about 400 local families with basic needs. Please help with our mission to provide basic needs for those in our neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods. Items in need are: toothpaste, toothbrushes, hand soap, bar soap, and dishwashing liquid soap. Any donations are appreciated and can be dropped off at the Academy office.

CCA is excited to invite the community to Annie! The performances will be held in the Campus West Gymnasium on

Friday May 19th and Saturday May 20th.

As we continue our registration process, please visit the school website: corpuschristiacad.org, for more information or call the school office to set up a tour of the Academy or Preschool. We look forward to our second year of success-es!

God Bless, Ken Mitskavich Principal
