The Juice House Co. believes in the pursuit of positively impacting lives, through the power of food energy. In 2016, sisters Tiana and Kelsea began their pursuit of offering food and drink in its purest form through their creative expression of love and devotion to all beings everywhere. They work directly with local organic suppliers to create the best product with the best ingredients for all their favorite juice junkies.  They strive to minimize waste through recycling/reusing bottles, using all compostable products in their shop, upcycling their coffee grounds, and sharing leftover compost with local growers, plus keeping it clean for Republic Services.

All Juice, Kombucha, Nut Mylks & Cold Brewed Coffee are locally sourced, pressed, and bottled in Benicia.  The Juice House Co. team is excited to share this food yoga, - one of the greatest wonders of life, - as pure raw food energy given to us by Mother Earth. Visit their storefront located at 611 First Street.

The foodwaste and recycling program for the Mary Farmar Elementary School lunchroom was introduced to the school by Republic Services with minimal oversight and has been successful with all audits clean.

Principal Mellissa Harley was a driving force pulling together support and enthusiasm to set it in motion and keep the momentum going. With the

help of Head Custodian, Ed Millard, and lunchroom staff, the student “Green Team” oversees their peers and teaches them to recycle and avoid contamination in the recycling and foodwaste cans. Lots of credit goes to these hard working “Green Team” students who give up free time during lunch.

The school also has a community garden, managed by Sheila Clyatt, who has been able to pull together volunteers, grants and plants, and supplies, so students can learn the connection from growing a healthy garden to healthy eating.

The trophies are from Lindsay Art Glass of Benicia. They are hand-blown, and include recycled glass with a marble sample as the base. Certificates were presented by Mayor Patterson.

Gardening in Small SpacesTuesday, March 12th • 6-7:30 PM (FREE)Register for Benicia location at sustainablesolano.org/event/gardening-for-renters

Are you a renter who wants to garden? This class can help you navi-gate small spaces, so you can! Through this workshop, you will learn many ways to grow food as a renter. Instructor Lori Caldwell will demonstrate creative solutions and cover topics such as: Container gardening, Working with your landlord, Gardening indoors, Free/low cost resources (seed libraries, cuttings, crop swaps, compost give-aways), Re-use options, Composting and maintaining your garden.

Lori Caldwell is an Alameda County Master Composter, residential sheet mulch maven, and specializes in edible gardens. Her mission: “To connect people to the soil and all that it provides.” She has been happily teaching sustainable gardening classes and transforming yards in the San Francisco Bay Area since 2007.

Permaculture through Water FlowSaturday, April 27th • 9-10 AM (FREE)Register for Benicia location at sustainablesolano.org/event

When it comes to the changing environment and global climate change, the cause of the problem — humans — can also be the key to the solution. The permaculture approach of slowing, spreading and sinking water is a different approach from how rainwater has been treated, keeping water where it does the most good. The other factor in the equation is the need for veg-etation. What you can do with your shovel can make an impact.

Lydia Neilsen is from the Regenerative Design Institute. Lydia was the co-designer and manager of the Westside Permaculture House in Santa Cruz, a demonstration garden for the use of home-scale permaculture design. As Garden Teacher and Garden Manager of the one-acre permaculture and biodynamic garden and small orchard at the Santa Cruz Waldorf School, she brought permaculture to the children, campus, and community. Lydia has also worked extensively in invasive species management and native habitat restoration.

We will also be accepting gently-used clothing, costume jewelry, house goods, bicycles, toys, and games. Sorry, no large items, mattresses, or

furniture. HELP others less fortunate. Donations will go to the nonprofit, “Faith Food Fridays,” where customers do not pay for items they need.
