MeganBaker

Megan Baker’s interest in science has always shaped her career goals, but a passion for helping others has led her to pursue a career in medicine.

“I’ve always been really interested in science,” said Megan. “I wanted to get into research originally, but then I decided I would like more human interaction which is why I would like to be a doctor.”

Megan’s vision for her future includes a career helping others as a pediatric oncologist.

“I hope I can make a positive impact on a bunch of kids’ lives and hopefully help save some.”

“I’d like to thank my parents for always supporting me, no matter what it is, whether it’s driving across the country to play a softball game or just helping me with all my academics.”

FinnChilsen

Finn Chilsen’s mom will tell you he’s always had a knack for creativity. That’s why he believes a career in mechanical engineering will be perfect for him.

“I’ve always been a creative thinker, a big problem solver, and as I’ve grown up, I’ve learned to love STEM,” said Finn while explaining his choice.

A career where he gets to create and experiment seems like the right fit. He plans to use his creativity and strengths in math and science to help him succeed.

“Mechanical engineering just seems like it’s going to be that career where I can take all those strong elements of myself and combine them to do really cool stuff.”

“I have to thank my parents. They’ve always been so supportive in everything I’ve done, they’re so helpful. I love them to death.”

ChandraChouhan

Chandra Chouhan wants to spend her career after college understanding one thing: the brain. Not just how it works, but how we think. That’s why she’s studying both neuroscience and philosophy.

“I’ve always been really intrigued by the brain because there are just so many things that are really unknown about the brain,” said Chandra. “I feel like we know a lot more about fish swimming in the ocean than we do about our own human brain.”

She wants to help solve the mysteries of the brain. That includes helping understand illnesses.

“There are a lot of things that could be done to save a lot of lives and help people alleviate a lot of neurological problems, such as Alzheimer’s, that currently have no cure.”

“I’d like to thank Educators for this opportunity and the scholarship. I’d also like to thank my family for being very supportive in all of my endeavors.”

MiaCiancio

Mia Ciancio has a very personal reason for wanting to become a speech pathologist or audiologist - she wants to help children like her sister.

“My sister was adopted from China, and when she came home, we took her to Children’s to work with a speech pathologist and audiologist there, and just seeing that team work together inspired me to pursue that career.”

Mia has been an Educators member for as long as she can remember and was excited at the opportunity to receive this scholarship.

“My family uses the Elkhorn branch, and we work with Kym there. When I was younger, I remember Kym just being so kind when we would come in and talk with her. I was really happy to receive the scholarship from them knowing that I’ve been a member for a long time and knowing how Educators is with their values.”

“I’d like to thank Educators for recognizing the core values that they have and recognizing that my scholarship application reflects that. I’d also like to thank my teacher at Elkhorn Area High School for writing my letter of recommendation.”

ChristopherEaton

Christopher Eaton’s passion is music, so it makes sense that he plans to bring that passion to others in the classroom.

“I wanted to be a teacher since, like, third grade,” said Chris when talking about his inspiration. “I thought it would be a great use of my talents and strengths, and the added passion for music really drove me to finalize on music education.”

So now, Chris is headed into the classroom to train for a career teaching students. He hopes to use his talents to pay it forward to the next generation of talented musicians.

“I love working collaboratively, and I know that as a teacher, I will be able to inspire many students while enjoying the greatest gift life has to offer: music!”

“I’d like to thank my parents. They have for sure been awesome in terms of helping me with my education and keeping me motivated to do well in school. And all my teachers. So many have made a lasting impact on me.”

MaxEhlers

Max Ehlers has always had a passion for working with kids. He’s hoping to combine that passion with his interest in medicine to work in the field of pediatric sports medicine.

“I do competitive Irish dance, and one thing that I do to give back to my community is teach private lessons,” Max told us. “In the past few years, I’ve started teaching private lessons to younger students, which I have enjoyed doing every week, and it also showed me that I want to work with kids in the future.”

Max understands that entering the medical field requires a lot of schooling which can come with a large price tag. He sees this scholarship as a step toward reaching his goals.

“I was so excited because going into medicine requires a lot of school which I’m fully aware of, but I also understand the cost.”

“I would like to thank all of my teachers at my high school, Ronald Reagan High School, as well as my family. They’re a big part of what has made me who I am today.”

BreaFortier

Brea Fortier is planning her future around her interests: horses.

“I’ve had horses for the last few years, and I really enjoy working with them,” said Brea.

She’s headed to school to study equine science. Just in case, she’s also planning to major in business administration.

“I wanted to do something with equine, but I didn’t want to make that my major, just in case it doesn’t work out. I took a couple business classes at my high school and really liked learning about it, so I also decided to go with business.”

“Obviously, I’d like to thank Educators for this opportunity. I’d also like to thank my family for being so supportive and helping me fill out the application to the best of my abilities.”

MayaFrodl

Maya Frodl wants to use her future career to give back to the world. That’s why she hopes to use her interests and skills to become a doctor with Doctors Without Borders.

“My passion for medicine really began in my biomedical classes, and I just became fascinated with the complexity of the human body and how much we as humans or as doctors haven’t quite discovered about it yet.”

With the challenges she knows many families face with paying for college, Maya was excited to learn she received this scholarship.

“I knew that a lot of other Americans are going through the same process and that affording college can be a tough process, so receiving even this scholarship is a huge blessing to me.”

“I would thank my teachers, because they’re the ones who really helped hone my discipline through my academics. I’d also like to thank my parents for really helping me through this journey and helping me to learn the importance of extracurriculars, balance and time management.”

rentonGebert

Trenton Gebert has been interested in many different careers throughout his education, but it was his AP courses in chemistry and biology that convinced him he wanted to major in biology in college.

“I like to learn with my hands and see the things that I’m doing rather than just learn about them. Both of those AP classes had a lot of in-class labs and hands-on work, and I really liked that.”

His decision to go into the field of biology was cemented after hearing from a biomedical engineer at a school career day.

“Just seeing her talk about what she does, it was really interesting to me and it really let me see that being able to work on theoretical problems and experiments is what I want to do when I grow up.”

“I’d really like to thank my parents for helping me. I’d also like to thank my teachers. I want to thank Educators Credit Union as well, because I really appreciate them being able to see me for who I am and giving me this opportunity.”

GraceGeyso

When Grace Geyso watched speech therapists work with her sister, it inspired her to get out and help people in that exact same way.

“When my sister was younger, she had a speech therapist come in,” Grace told us. “I kind of saw first hand how she could really make a big difference in my sister’s life.”

Now, she wants to pay it forward, helping other children. She plans to start helping right away in school.

“Next year at Madison, I want to join a few of the programs they have to help kids, like the one at Mansfield Hall. Later on in my career, I’d like to end up working with children like my sister.”

“I’d like to thank my mom for helping me and encouraging me to do all of these scholarships, and Educators Credit Union for giving me this really nice opportunity to grow next year.”

GraceGierach

There are two roads for Grace Gierach’s future. She’s planning her future with an opportunity to take either. One is based in her passion for music, the other is based in politics.

“I want to pursue choral education because choir and music in general have been very important parts of my life and in shaping who I am today, so I want to help provide that opportunity for future students. I’ve also always been very interested in politics and hope to be active in local government and politics to help my community.”

Whether she’s helping inspire students with singing, or helping her community, Grace is thrilled that she’ll have a smaller financial burden thanks to Educators.

“I was so excited when I got the email that I would be receiving one of the scholarships! The first person I told was my mom. She was so excited and gave me a huge hug!”

“I, of course, would like to thank the scholarship committee and Educators Credit Union for providing me with this opportunity. I would also like to thank my choir director, Mr. Tom Ajack, for writing my letter of recommendation for the application, and my family for encouraging and helping me through the application process, as well as my school career.”

OliviaGnadt

When Olivia Gnadt goes off to college, she’ll be pursuing an interest she’s had since middle school - biology.

“I went on this field trip to Florida with my middle school,” said Olivia. “We did all sorts of dissections and looked at different animals and stuff, so it made me really want to go into biology. My biology teacher actually has inspired me to go into that field.”

Receiving this scholarship has given Olivia confidence that she will be able to afford her education.

“It was the first scholarship that I had received so far, and it meant a lot to me because I’m going to UW-Madison and I didn’t know if I was going to be able to afford it without getting any scholarships.”

“I’d like to thank my family. They really supported me for my whole schooling, and most importantly, they taught me how to be independent.”

StephanieHandford

Stephanie Handford is excited to use her passion for hands-on projects to better the world through a career as a mechanical engineer.

“I’ve just always loved the project aspect of science and math coursework. Getting into engineering will give me the chance to not only use the math knowledge I’ve accumulated over the past few years, but it will also allow me to take that knowledge and apply it to projects that will hopefully better the world.”

Stephanie was working on a hands-on project with her dad when she learned she received the scholarship.

“I told my dad right away. We were out building something in the garage, and he was very excited, because that was actually the first scholarship I received this year.”

“I’d like to thank my grandmother because she got me started in really being focused on school. I’d also like to thank my mother because she just helped keep me focused and on track the last few years.”

LillianTerry

Lillian Jerry’s plans to major in business in college were inspired by a job she got her junior year of high school.

“I got a job at a pie shop, and I really loved the customer service side of things and just interacting with customers and seeing how a business works,” said Lillian. “I figured that would be something fun to do as a career.”

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lillian said receiving this scholarship was a silver lining.

“It was one of the first scholarships that I received, and it was just very rewarding because, especially at a time when everything was being taken away from me during my senior year, this was just a breath of fresh air and a relief, just a nice thing that was happening.”

“I’d like to thank my senior and junior year math teacher. She was just a great influence throughout my whole high school career, and I was lucky enough to have her for two years.”

KeeganKabelowsky

Keegan Kabelowsky is headed for a career in mechanical engineering. The job is a good fit for Keegan, who says he’s always had a curious side.

“When I was little, I liked to take things apart and just try to figure out how they worked. Throughout my life, I would say I’ve just been more mechanically inclined with things.”

Now, he’s thankful he’s getting help paying for his education to put that curiosity to good use.

“When I found out I got the scholarship, I was really excited. I didn’t think I would get it. I told my parents and they were super excited for me.”

When Esther Koeller starts her career as a teacher, it’ll be more than a job, it’s a family legacy.

“My whole family and everyone in my family is a teacher,” answered Esther when asked about her choice. “But I have always, since I was little, wanted to be a teacher.”

There’s no doubt that teaching is the perfect fit for her. You can hear the excitement in her voice.

“I love kids and have always had a passion for helping them.”

“I’d like to thank my parents because they’ve helped me a lot through school and also my teachers because they were the ones to tell us continuously to keep applying for scholarships.”

CarsonKrenzke

Carson Krenzke has always had an eye for marketing. He told us it’s one thing he’s always paid attention to, so it made sense to pursue it as a career.

“I’ve always asked myself questions through the view of marketing,” said Carson. “Like why would certain companies advertise in certain way, it’s always been something that’s interested me.”

When he goes off to college, he’ll continue his focus on business-minded classes to help him get his dream job. While Carson wants to have a successful career, he also wants to continue giving back to his community.

“I plan to work diligently to achieve personal success while keeping a strong sense of staying involved in my community through things such as volunteering.”

“I want to thank my parents for helping keep me on the right track and showing me the path to go on to become successful. Also, I want to thank my teachers for helping put me in the position to be able to become one of the people that received this scholarship.”

NatalieLopez

Natalie Lopez has always loved animals, but that’s only part of the reason she feels called to work as a veterinarian.

“Ever since I was little, I’ve loved animals and once I started learning more about science, I realized it wasn’t just my love for animals that made me want to be a veterinarian, it was my need to save them and how much I love knowing how I can do that.”

Natalie and her parents were both excited to learn she had received this scholarship.

“I was pretty awe shocked. I’ve applied for many and this is the first one I’ve received, and it’s taken really just a huge weight off my shoulders. It’s no small amount. I immediately went downstairs and told my parents, and they were so excited.”

“I would like to thank my seventh grade teacher. He has been there for me from seventh grade all the way up, and we’re actually still doing a book swap. He’s amazing and so encouraging, and I’d really like to thank him.”

AnnaNelson

There are a lot of reasons to become a doctor. You might enjoy helping people, be interested in biology, or be attracted to the pay. For Anna Nelson, there’s a much more personal reason.

“When I was younger, I was super active in sports,” said Anna. “I hurt my hip really bad and wasn’t able to play.”

She received help from a doctor. Her orthopedic doctor helped her find ways to heal and get back to the sport.

“Growing up playing sports, I know how important it is to be healthy and health contributes to your happiness, so I just want to make sure everyone has access to this.”

“I would like to thank my mom, she’s been very supportive of me, along with my father, he’s been super supportive. Also, all of my teachers, no matter the subject, they have all just helped me and encouraged me, helped me grow as a person and a student.”

KaylaMaurer

Kayla Maurer views a future career as a midwife as a great opportunity to fill a requirement for those that need it.

“It’s always been something that’s grabbed my attention,” said Kayla. “It just seems like there’s a lot of need for it out there, whether it be in the states or in other countries.”

And Kayla’s thrilled that she’s getting some financial assistance to accomplish her dream of helping others.

“I was shocked when I found out I got the scholarship. I called my dad, and he was really excited. It’s going to be a huge help in paying for my tuition.”

When Erin McCauley goes off to college, she knows the cost is on her. She told us that her parents have always taken care of her family, but once she goes off to school, it’s her responsibility.

“I’ve gone to a private school since kindergarten and my parents have always paid for that,” Erin told us. “Once we get to college, it’s expected that we apply for scholarships and we have to pay for everything on our own.”

So, it’s understandable that the entire family was excited when she found out she was one of 35 Educators scholarship recipients.

“I went downstairs to tell my mom and my dad, and they were both super excited for me and really proud of me for working hard.”

She hasn’t decided what to study yet, but she’s grateful that a bit of the cost for college has been covered.

“I want to thank my mom and dad for everything they’ve done for me and being there to support me no matter what.”

AnnaMisky

Anna Misky’s goal in life is to become a dentist. She believes it’s a satisfying career that allows you to build relationships. But her passion for dentistry goes beyond working in an office helping people with their smile.

“I do service through the St. Vincent de Paul meal program in Milwaukee, and I was struck by an encounter I had with a man asking about my college goals,” Anna told us. “He told me that if I do become a dentist, he highly recommends doing it in a place that needs it most.”

Anna was struck by the conversation. It opened her eyes to the needs of people in less served areas.

“I think most people just lack access to dentistry and that’s something that I would like to change once I do become a dentist.

“I would love to thank my parents for getting me to where I am today, all of my teachers for educating me, Educators Credit Union for helping me to continue to pursue my dreams in college, and all of my friends and extended family for supporting me throughout my life.”

Kinzie Reischl’s career aspirations come from her own experiences. Over the summer, she needed surgery, and the way she was treated inspired her to make sure she can pay that help forward.

“I had surgery this past summer for an abdominal issue, and going through all of the issues and appointments with different doctors really inspired me to try to give back for what they have given to me.”

Now, she’s motivated to get to work to help others. She’s also thankful to get something to celebrate during a difficult time in the world.

“It will help me out a lot next year for my tuition. With all the COVID stuff happening, it really was just a highlight of a good, something I did that was good even though we were going through so much at the time.”

“I started working at the Root River REC, and I was surrounded by environmental science students, and my boss was actually a professor at Parkside in the environmental sciences area. I was surrounded by people who wanted to make a difference in the world.”

Tia hopes to use her education and passion for environmental science to make a difference in our communities.

“I know, especially with agricultural science, our Wisconsin dairy farmers have been struggling, so maybe I would make that one of my things to work on to see how I could help them.”

Stephon Ricks wants to create something that will help change the world. He once believed he would do that as a mechanical engineer, but at some point in high school, that changed.

“At first, I was thinking mechanical engineering because I could make something impactful,” said Stephon. “Then, I was talking to my friend about computers and started looking into that. I went from mechanical engineering to computer engineering.”

He’s looking at all the opportunities computer engineering has to offer. Hopefully, one day, his work will help create a better world.

“Technology is one of the few things that unites everyone, regardless of their race, gender, age or socioeconomic status. It is my hope that I will be part of a wonderful team that will unite others with technological inventions we create.”

It took Abby Slye some hard work to figure out what major she’d like to pursue in college.

“A few years ago, we were going on a road trip and I brought a giant book filled with majors and read through every single one,” said Abby. “I narrowed it down to about 15, and for some reason linguistics just kept sticking out to me.”

During her junior year of high school, her interest in linguistics kept coming back to her. Projects she worked on happened to focus on linguistics. That was all she needed to convince her she was making the right choice.

“I’m really interested in the research aspect of linguistics and participating in undergrad research and possibly going into grad school and doing research there.”

Mayaheune-Baillargeon

Maya Theune-Baillargeon has always known she didn’t want her future career to be a desk job. With her desire for hands-on work and interest in helping others, she is excited to pursue a career in the medical field.

“I’ve always wanted to be directly helping people, and combined with my love for sciences and psychology and a lot of those advanced courses I was taking in high school, it really just fit for me to go into the medical field.”

Maya is getting a head start on her career through her current job at an assisted living center.

“Right now, I’m actually working at an assisted living building where I specialize in advanced care, which is for people with extreme physical needs, and I’m really enjoying that, so I really want to further that.”

Around this time last year, Leah Topp’s plans for her future were a little different. Then, she learned about recreational therapy and it lit a spark.

“Recreational therapy is something that I kind of learned about this year only,” Leah said. “Then I started researching a little bit and I think that’s perfect for what I want to do.”

She plans to combine recreational therapy with a long-standing passion of hers — American Sign Language.

“I’ve always been interested in American Sign Language. I started taking some classes with Gateway this year and I really just love it, so I’m excited to be able to continue that.”

The important thing for Leah is that, no matter where she ends up, she’s able to help others.

“I’d like to thank my counselor. She has helped me a lot this year. I tried before to start American Sign Language classes, and she helped make it happen.”

SophieWentorf

Sophie Wentorf has had a lifelong interest in education and helping others which is why she has chosen to pursue a career as an elementary school teacher.

“Ever since I was little, I remember always wanting to be a teacher, and as I’ve grown up it’s just become more real,” Sophie said. “I’ve always liked kids, and education has been important to me, so I want to help out all the young kids so that they can have a future.”

Sophie has always wanted to attend college, so when she learned she was receiving the scholarship, she was thrilled.

“I was very excited because each scholarship really helps a lot. I’ve always wanted to go to college, so taking some of the stress out of paying for it helps because that’s a big part of it — it’s very expensive. So, I was very happy.”

“I’d like to thank my mom and dad, because they’re always supportive and they helped me to get to where I am now with putting me through school so far, and inspired me to do just as well as they are.”

What inspired Brandon Wilde to pursue a career in physical therapy? An injury of his own.

“I had an injury in middle school playing football,” Brandon told us. “My uncle is a physical therapist at Fort HealthCare, and he kind of just fixed me up in a day.”

Because Brandon was helped so quickly, he was inspired. It motivated him to help others.

“I was like, ‘Wow, I want to help people and I want to do the same thing my uncle did for me for others.’”

“I’d like to thank both my parents. They gave me endless love and endless support to be where I am today.”

With an interest in math and inspiration from role models in his family, Marcus Wolff plans to pursue a career as an electrical engineer in the defense industry.

“Throughout my life I’ve really enjoyed math, but I really wanted to do something that was very applicable and practical, and so I figured electrical engineering would involve plenty of math. But not only that, I’m influenced by a couple of my uncles who are my greatest role models actually, and all of them are engineers.”

Knowing that he wouldn’t qualify for substantial financial aid, Marcus was thrilled to receive this scholarship.

“I had to rely entirely on scholarship money and my own unsubsidized loans to pay for my education, so when I found out I was an Educators scholarship winner, I was beyond thrilled for sure.”

“I’d like to thank Educators Credit Union and the scholarship committee for choosing me for this wonderful award. I’d also like to thank my parents. They deserve credit for their parenting abilities and the way they’ve encouraged me in my studies.”

NathanWessel

Since he first got involved with robotics through his school, Nathan Wessel has been obsessed with robotics as a business. That’s why his goal is to start his own company with an emphasis on technology.

“Back in fourth grade, I wanted to be a roller coaster engineer, but as I got accustomed to the more business type environment the robotics programs are, I started to find a passion for managing teams and seeing this overall big picture.”

Nathan sees college as an opportunity for him to learn more about how he can blend his passions for robotics, technology and business into a future career.

“I’m not sure at the moment as to what type of company I want to start other than a technology-based business. I think throughout my time at college I’ll be able to find a better vision for what I want my company to produce or sell or whatever that may be. “

“I’d really like to thank the staff and faculty at my high school. When I entered high school, I didn’t know anybody, and the staff were very welcoming and friendly and made it feel like another home to me.”

When it came to picking her future career, Hannah Xiong is thankful that she got to test her interests in high school.

“I’ve been part of the healthcare academies in high school,” says Hannah. “The academies have helped me determine that that’s what I want to do for the rest of my life and that the medical field is a good field for me.”

Once she graduates college, Hannah wants to pursue a career as an OB/GYN, where she can put her love for babies and helping others to good use.

“Ultimately, what I want to do with my life is just to be able to help people and be able to serve them in the way that I think would be best used.”

“I want to thank my parents. Throughout my whole scholarship application process, they have been there to help me.”
