Tommy’s Visit

Tommy had never visited the zoo before. When he got out of the family car

with his father, he felt as “happy as a lark”. The first thing he noticed was the

sounds of different animals. They did not sound anything like his neighborhood.

The sounds were loud and sharp. His heart beat faster with excitement, as he

looked and listened to all the new animals he had never seen. He heard tigers

roar in the distance and monkeys scream from the trees. He listened to the

tropical birds sing. Tommy thought that the zoo was the most magical place in

the world. He tried to remember all the sounds, shapes and sizes of the different

animals. He wanted to tell his mother about all the details when he got home.

“Tommy,” his father called, “It is time to go home.”

Vegetable Soup

Ingredients: x 2 quarts of water

x 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

x 1 can chopped tomatoes (16 oz.)

x 3 large carrots

x ½ cup chopped onions

x 4 large potatoes

x Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

1. Clean vegetables and cut each into 1- inch chunks.

2. Heat oil over medium heat and add onions.

3. Cook onions over low heat until soft.

4. Add vegetables and water.

5. Bring water to a boil, then reduce heat and cook for 30 minutes or until

vegetables are soft.

6. Add canned tomatoes and stir to mix ingredients.

7. Add salt and pepper to taste.

8. Ladle soup into bowls and serve with your favorite bread.
