Greetings in the mighty name of our Risen Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ.

Sunday is Father’s Day, Happy Father’s Day to all our fathers!

We will follow the Pentecost Worship Series “When The Spirit Moves”

Our topic on Sunday is “ENDURING THE STORMS”

Please make sure to study the Scripture lesson and be prepared to listen to the sermon

on our worship Service at 10:30am.

Scripture: Mark 4:35-41; 2 Corinthians 6:1-13 Mark 4:35-41; Jesus Calms the Storm 35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other

side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were

also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that

it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him

and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” 39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down

and it was completely calm. 40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” 41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey

him!”

2 Corinthians 6:1-13

As God’s co-workers we urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain.2 For he says,

“In the time of my favor I heard you,

and in the day of salvation I helped you.”

I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.

Paul’s Hardships 3 We put no stumbling block in anyone’s path, so that our ministry will not be discredited. 4 Rather,

as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles,

hardships and distresses; 5 in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights

and hunger; 6 in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere

love; 7 in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand

and in the left; 8 through glory and dishonor, bad report and good report; genuine, yet regarded

as impostors; 9 known, yet regarded as unknown; dying, and yet we live on; beaten, and yet not

killed; 10 sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet

possessing everything. 11 We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians, and opened wide our hearts to you. 12 We are not

withholding our affection from you, but you are withholding yours from us. 13 As a fair exchange—

I speak as to my children—open wide your hearts also.

There is no numerical limit for indoor and outdoor gatherings including religious services and events. Bible Study on Sunday BREAKOUT GROUPS:

1. If participants are willing, invite them to tell of the last “storm” or difficult

season they encountered in their lives.

What is the disciples’ question to Jesus in Mark 4:38? Why might this have

been particularly hurtful to Jesus? [It was likely hurtful to hear they

questioned whether he cared about their well-being.]

2. Why might Jesus be using the same phrases against the wind and sea (in

v. 39) that Jesus uses when casting out demons (see Mark 1:25 as one

example)? [It reveals that more is going on than merely a physical threat,

as bad as that was.]

3. Why might it be important that Paul can speak about “now” being the day

of salvation while also listing potential storms (1 Corinthians 6:4-5)? [It

proves that experiencing salvation does not diminish the fact that we will

all have to endure trials.]

SHARING OF ANNOUNCEMENT & INFORMATION (from the Conference)

1) FROM GNJ LEADERSHIP Thank you for your continued leadership and the difference you are making in your congregation and the GNJ mission. The following are essential actions and information for this week. 1. Wespath Webinar for GNJ HealthFlex Participants Register for an important one-hour webinar on Thursday, June 24 at 2:00 p.m. to learn about important healthcare changes for 2022. There will be an opportunity for questions. Registration is required. Click here. 2. Redistricting Plan The approved 2021 budget and the recommended 2022 budget has funding for six district superintendents. The cabinet is working on a plan to move from nine districts to six. A survey of lay and clergy members to the annual conference session and district committees members has been completed. The results indicate that the most important principle in redistricting is to maximize making disciples and growing vital congregations for the transformation of the world. Also highlighted were diversity and the mix of small and large churches in each district. The plan will be posted for comment in late summer. More information can be found here. 3. Celebrating Freedom this Juneteenth Juneteenth is recognized annually to commemorate and celebrate June 19, the day that African Americans living in Texas learned of the end of slavery in the United States two years prior. On this day, GNJ will celebrate freedom but know that much work still needs to be done. On the eve of Juneteenth on June 18, the Black Methodists for Clergy Renewal (BMCR) of GNJ will host an event to commemorate the anniversary. Rev. Joseph L, Scott, a United Methodist pastor for 33 years, past BMCR chair and former Marine, will be the guest speaker. For details, click here. 4. Mission and Resource Center (MRC) Opening The MRC will officially open for meetings and events after Labor Day, September 7. Some staff have returned. The MRC will follow the CDC and NJ pandemic guidelines, some of which includes the following:

1. Face masks are no longer required in most outdoor and indoor settings. However, based

on CDC guidelines, unvaccinated individuals should continue wearing a face covering in public spaces to protect yourself and others. For those vaccinated, face masks are optional and for those not vaccinated, it is strongly recommended you wear a mask.

2. Please do not come in if you are feeling sick or someone in your household is feeling sick. 3. Singing will be allowed. 4. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after you

have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.

5. Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or use the inside of your elbow. 6. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands. 7. Wash or disinfect your hands once you enter the MRC. 8. Wash or disinfect your hands after touching any communal surfaces like copier,

countertops, etc.

Deepen Faith Dreaming of a Brighter, More Just World. Fifty-eight years ago during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom,

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech, in which he called for civil and economic rights

and an end to racism. "I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made

low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall

be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together." Consider reading his speech in its entirety this Sunday in celebration of

3. Redistricting: Thank you to all who shared feedback as we prepare to downsize from nine to six districts in GNJ to

create a stronger GNJ. The majority of those surveyed believe that our most important principle in redistricting

should be to maximize disciple making and grow vital congregations for the transformation of the world. Stay
