2 COMMUNITY HEALTH. CARES.
“The opportunity for Healthcare Alternative Systems, (HAS) to work with IWS, in providing behavioral health services, has been mutually beneficial; specifically, in having IWS refer clients in need of bilingual-bicultural postpartum treatment services. This relationship epitomizes the importance of collaboration, especially at a community based level". – Felix Rodriguez, Community Advisory Board
DEAR FR IENDS:
This year, we celebrate our connection to community with our theme, COMMUNITY HEALTH. CARES. We are so proud to highlight Infant Welfare’s vital role in the community as we deliver high-quality healthcare to children and families.
IWS CARES.
WE CARE FOR AND ABOUT OUR PATIENTS. Our commitment to the families we serve means that every day we provide quality, integrated medical, dental, optometry, behavioral health and child development services. Our providers and staff truly care for our patients and show it in small and large ways.
WE CARE ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY. It is important to us that the Angel Harvey Community Health Center is seen as a resource for our patients and community members. Our relationships with other community services and providers allow us to better serve the varied needs of our families. Events like the Annual Family Fest make it easy to showcase healthy activities and health information.
OUR EXTRAORDINARY AUXILIARY CARES. If you have seen the look of delight on a child’s face as he greets Santa at the wonderful See Santa event, or witnessed the fun that chapter members and guests have at fundraising events, you have experienced the magic of the Auxiliary. The 750 members of 13 chapters care deeply about the children and families served at IWS, and they have done so for over 100 years.
Thanks to you—our supporters and closest champions—the IWS Auxiliary, Board of Directors, Associate Board, community leaders, donors and patients, WE CAN SHOW HOW MUCH WE CARE EACH AND EVERY DAY.
Sincerely,
E L I Z A B E T H M . H E N N E S S Y Board President

COMMUNITY HEALTH. CARES. 3
For more than a century, Infant Welfare has pioneered innovative medical and behavioral health practices to serve some of Chicago’s most vulnerable families.
Since 1924, it has incorporated child development and behavioral health counseling into its primary care model, and since 1970 it has provided pediatric dentistry services to low-income children. Orthodontic care was introduced in 1991 and pediatric optometry in 1995. In 2015, IWS launched the Child-Centered Health and Advanced Therapies (CHAT) program for children with special needs.

COMMUNITY HEALTH. CARES. 9
10 COMMUNITY HEALTH. CARES.
THE AUXILIARY CARESThe Auxiliary of the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago consists of women from all over the greater Chicagoland area. We exist solely to support the patients and staff of Infant Welfare. We strive to make our Clinic special and distinct from others by demonstrating our care in many ways.
WE CARE WITH DOLLARS… The Auxiliary contributed $600,000 in direct support in FY 2016. We raise this money by hosting a variety of fundraisers held throughout the Chicagoland area. In addition to raising money, Auxiliary members use these occasions to share the stories of the care and concern each patient is given at Infant Welfare.
WE CARE BY VOLUNTEERING… Auxiliary members feel a strong commitment to the Clinic and its patients, as evidenced by over 24,000 volunteer hours throughout the year. During the last fiscal year, the Auxiliary: • held "Baby Showers" and donated diapers, formula,
clothing and more for the newest Clinic patients;
• made hundreds of beautiful Mother's Day baskets for patients;
• assembled delicious bean soup kits for families served by Infant Welfare;
• worked with children making greeting cards;
• bought new books and gathered used books; and
• donated craft supplies and puzzles to the CHAT program.
In short, we anticipated the needs of our patients and answered the requests of the providers in many ways.
WE CARE BY FORMING PARTNERSHIPS… On a large scale, we worked in conjunction with CD One Price Cleaners in over 30 locations on our 5th Annual Coat Drive. CD One encourages all customers to donate used coats, which are cleaned at no charge and delivered to the Clinic for distribution
to patients. In addition, Board members, Auxiliary members and friends donate new coats, hats, gloves, and mittens. Over two days, the Auxiliary was thrilled to distribute hundreds of items. On a smaller scale, we partner with local businesses to collect school supplies, books and dental supplies to give out during the year.
WE CARE BY SHARING… Last December, we hosted over 700 children and parents for the annual "See Santa" party. Auxiliary members purchased gifts and assembled goody bags filled with toys, books and games for each child. The Infant Welfare staff, Auxiliary members and friends spent a wonderful day sharing joy and the Holiday spirit with Clinic families.
Additionally, Auxiliary members fill leadership roles and key commitees on the Board of Directors. Every year, we host a staff appreciation luncheon to thank the wonderful IWS team for a job well done. When the staff sees a child or family in need of extra support, they know we will answer the call. We share our time, energy and resources in countless ways—all to support the patients and staff of Infant Welfare.
Sincerely,
C Y N T H I A S C H O L LAuxiliary President
