PURPOSE OF COMMUNICATION
Communication can be used to convey information which is
mainly done through text based media as well as verbally.
It can be used to ask for help. Asking verbally for help has
shown natural empathy in the listeners more than text based
communication.
Communication is used to influence a listener or audience.
This is the type of communication used by politicians.
Finally the purpose of communication is entertainment. Once
again there is a clear advantage to verbal communication over
text-based.

GATEWAYS TO COMMUNICATION
In order to enhance the effectiveness of communication, we can focus onthe following aspects:
Plan the message: Before we decide to communicate an idea/
information/message, we need to plan it properly.
Use Proper language: The language used for a message should be clear,
lucid and appropriate.
Dont be evaluative: If we listen to somebody with preconceived notions,
we wont be able to receive, process and interpret the message properly.
Give proper Orientation: All the employees should be given proper
orientation regarding the objectives, policies, procedures, organization
structure and work culture of an organization immediately after they are
recruited.
Be an active listener: Active listening is an art which very few people can
master.

able to communicate properly with others.
Respond don't re-act: When we are dealing with a problematic situation
or person, we must understand the facts properly and respond
appropriately. Promote congruence: Communication will not be effective unless and
until people are willing to communicate.

the employees regarding a particular issue.

intrested in the problems of communication.According to him
in emotionally maladjusted people, communication has
broken down within themselves resulting in
miscommunication or distorted communication with
others. As a result the suffer both within themselves and in
their inter personal relationship. The role of psychotherapist is

CONT
The tendency to evaluate A barrier incommunication
We have a natural urge to judge , evaluate and approve or
disapprove another person statement.
Ex-if someone says I did not like what that man said then
almost every one will respond either approval or
disapproval(yes/no).This is our evaluative tendency and can
create miscommunication because such reactions heightened
situations where emotions and feelings are deeply involved.Because there are two ideas, two feelings , two judgements
missing each other in psychological space and this impulse to
evaluate any emotional meaningful statement from our own
view point blocks interpersonal communications.

Gate way to overcome to evaluative barriers:-
We can achieve real communication and avoid this
evaluative tendency ,when we listen with under
standing. This means seeing the expressing idea andattitude from the other persons point of view,
sensing how we feel about the other person ,
achieving his/or her frame of reference about the
subject being discussed.
Such empathic understanding results in effective
communication and bring significant changes in
personality.

Retrospective commentary:-
Here the author has challenged the sanctity of
hierarchical relationships by suggesting the managers
take their subordinates thoughts and feelingsseriously.
Checking the natural tendency to judge yields a
better understanding of the person with whom you
are communicating .
A better understanding of other persons point of
view in turn helps you communicate better.
