Principals News

Mother’s Day Don’t forget our Tea-riffic Mothers Day Morning Tea is on this Friday from 8.30am under the hall COLA. During this time mothers and special people in the lives of students at Kempsey East Public School are invited to share morning tea and enjoy some craft, story reading, and visit the special photo booth for some pictures! Please make sure you have sent in your muffin orders as these were due today. Tea, coffee and some juice will be available as well. The P&C Will be holding a Mother’s Day Stall on Thursday & Friday this week also. Building Work During the holidays our school has had some improvements and more are planned as part of planned maintenance by the Department of Education. You will have noticed that the outside of Mr Clough’s classroom has had a fresh coat of paint and is looking great! This term some of the buildings around the school will be receiving new roof tiles. This will mean some changes in the playground and how some classrooms will be accessed for a short time once the work begins. Congratulations A big congratulations to Haylee O who was selected for Macleay Netball last term. She represented the Macleay at the Lower North Coast Netball today. Staffing This term we welcome a new permanent teacher Mrs Gabrielle Scott to our school. She will be working in the Creators Hub on Year 3 and 4. Gabrielle is an experienced teacher and we are lucky to have her joining our Kempsey East team! Mr. Jacob Easey will continue in the Investigators Hub teaching Year 1 and 2 and Mrs Alisia Byrne will remain in the Discoverers Hub working with Kindergarten and Year 1. The role of Learning and Support Teacher will be taken on by Mrs Teleah Waitoa. NAPLAN The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will be administered at our school next week. This is a national assessment conducted each year for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 and provides a snapshot of information to schools about what each student can do in both literacy and numeracy. The 4 separate assessments are reading, writing, language conventions and numeracy and will be administered over 3 days from Tuesday 14th May to Thursday 16th May. During this time there will be some changes to class organisation for students in Years 3-6. NAIDOC Week We will be celebrating NAIDOC Week in the last week of this term. More information on the day will come out in the coming weeks. This year students are able to order a beanie, pencil case, bands, shirts or mini football –order forms will be sent home with students today and are required in by Friday 24 May. Got-It! Program at Kempsey East Public School Students in Kinder to Year 2 and 8 years olds in year 3 have been given information and a questionnaire in relation to the 'GOT-IT! Program'. This program aims to assist children, parents/carers and schools to support children in managing emotions, build social skills and improve behaviours. Please have the questionnaire completed and returned to the school office by Wednesday 15 May. On Tuesday 14 May from 9.30am-12.30pm there will be a parent seminar held at the school. Early Explorers Transition Program

to Kempsey East Public School

Early Explorers is a transition program to Kempsey East Public School for children commencing school in 2020. The program is designed to make starting ‘big’ school at Kempsey East Public School as successful as possible

for children, families and teachers.

Early Explorers Aims: - to get to know your child as an individual

- to enhance your child’s oral language, literacy and numeracy skills - to provide opportunities for parents/carers to share in their child’s transition to KEPS

- to allow your child to develop relationships with other children they will start kindergarten with, and - to complement the benefits of early childhood education programs your child may already attend.

What you need to do to enrol: If your child is going to start kindergarten at Kempsey East Public School in 2020

and you are interested in your child becoming involved in this program, please fill out an Early Explorers Expression of Interest form

and return it to our school office as soon as possible. You must also complete a Kempsey East Public School enrolment form

and submit this to our school office along with the child’s birth certificate, immunisation details and proof of address (ie. drivers licence).

Enrolment forms can be obtained from our school office.

Start dates and times: Attendance at Early Explorers is on a fortnightly basis on a

Tuesday afternoon from 12.30 to 3.00 at Kempsey East Public School. You are able to choose which fortnight your child attends on.

The first sessions will be on Tuesday 7th May (group 1) and Tuesday 14th May (group 2).

We look forward to meeting both you and your child in the near future.

If you have any questions, please contact Teleah Waitoa at Kempsey East Public School on 02 6562 4927.
