No discussion of the British influence on interior design would be complete without the mention of design star David Hicks. While he might not be a household name, you’ve surely seen his work. It appears everywhere from fabrics to rugs to candles. Hicks was responsible for bringing graphic, bold and colourful geometric patterns to the UK in the 1960s and his influence continues to be seen everywhere today. In the last few years, pattern has again become all the rage, and Hicks-inspired geometrics are leading the trend, in no small part due to the influence of his design savvy children Ashley and India. COLOUR THEORY According to Gwen Prince of General Paint, working with a traditional London paint palette featuring red, white and blue, can be a challenge as the red and blue hues are quite intense. Although, these colours make beautiful accents! To recreate the London look, paint your walls in a warm off-white (Colour: Mistaya CLW 1042W)* and accent them with a rich red leather (Colour: Beget CLV 1110N)* worn club chair.
