38th Annual Bull Sale
• Base Prices with Bid-Off. All cattle will be pre-priced
with a “base price” ranging from $2,500 to $5,000 for
most bulls. A listing of all prices will be available on
sale day. Bulls will not be sold on sale day below these
minimum prices. Beginning at 1:00 p.m., buyers and
selling prices will be determined for each bull and each
heifer in the respective sale order. At that time, if only
one person indicates their interest in an animal at that
animal’s base price (by raising their hand and indicating
so), then that person will be identified as the buyer by the
sale coordinator. If more than one person is interested in an
animal, a slow-speed bid-off will be conducted using $100
to $250 increments by the sale coordinator to determine the
high bidder and official selling price. No actual auctioneer
or ringmen will be present.
Colorado State University will be offering 27 yearling Hereford and
Angus bulls. All bulls will have been evaluated for fertility, BVD-PI,
feed efficiency (with the exception of the four National Western Stock
Show Hereford bulls), Pulmonary Arterial Pressure (PAP) by Dr. Tim
Holt and GeneSeek’s Genetic Profiler (GGP-HD) Test. Results for
PAP, fertility and the GGP-HD test will be available sale day.
See pictures and videos of all lots at www.csubulls.colostate.edu.
An additional 20 bulls & 15 Angus heifers will be offered from guests. As a service to buyers, more cattle will be offered for sale in one location on sale day via these guests to enable
greater selection. Detailed performance information (pedigrees, EPDs, etc.) will be available sale day, and will
also be available in advance (including pictures on most lots) at www.csubulls.colostate.edu or by contacting these
individual breeders:
• Sale order. The official order that cattle will be sold in
will be available on sale day. The sale will begin with
CSU Angus bulls, followed by CSU Hereford bulls,
guests’ bulls, and guests’ heifers. Beginning at 1:00 p.m.,
the sale coordinator will go through the sale order only
once using the method described previously. Any CSU
cattle not sold on sale day will continue to be available
at their base price after the sale until all are sold by the
end of the bull selling season.
• No On-line Broadcast. In an effort to reduce costs, this
year’s sale won’t be broadcast via the internet or satellite
video. If you seek assistance in purchasing a bull, but are
unable to attend, please contact Jason Ahola, Jesse French
or Kevin Pond (contact info on inside front cover).

This year has flown by and has certainly been a busy one for the team! October began our whirlwind of events starting with halter breaking and then showing a pen of Hereford bulls and heifers at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colo. Shortly after that, we attended the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association Mid-Winter Conference, also in Denver. Then, at the beginning of February, we road-tripped across the country to Nashville, Tenn., for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Annual Convention. Since returning from our trips, we have kept plenty busy preparing for our sale, organizing the sale catalog, and clipping and picturing all of our bulls.
We would like to thank our families, faculty, sponsors, past members and buyers for the support they have shown us all throughout the year. Without them, our adventures and success wouldn’t be possible. From all of us on the team, we hope you enjoy our sale, educational symposium, food and cattle!
Thank you for your support!
Carson is originally from Sterling, Colo., where he was raised on his family’s farm and ranch. His family farms corn, wheat and sugar beets, and has a herd of commercial Angus cows. Before coming to CSU, Carson was very active in 4-H, Farm Bureau and FFA, including being a 2010-2011 FFA State Officer. Carson is currently a junior at CSU double majoring in ag business and animal science. Upon graduating, he plans to return to his family’s operation (they made it clear he couldn’t come back without out a piece of paper proving he had graduated). Being on the Seedstock Team, Carson has most enjoyed getting to know his teammates as well as getting to interact with leaders in the beef industry. He is also co-chair of the Data Committee for this year’s team.
