Specialists �ho have graduated from this program are able to �ork in laboratories and quality control centers, to become employ-ees in the State Agency for Metrological and Technical Surveillance or in scientific institutes and laboratories in the area of Physics and related sciences. Students enrolled in this program can obtain an ad-ditional professional qualification „Teacher of Physics“ during the 4-year course of study in this BSc program.

Applied Optics Technology•Students obtain theoretical and applied kno�ledge of basic

physical and mathematical courses, �hich ensures them good ca-reer. Specialist �ho have graduated from this program are prepared

to �ork in the field of contemporary optical technologies such as opto-electronics, spectral analysis, optical methods for control of different environmental factors, lidar technologies, etc. Special attention dur-ing the education is paid on laser technologies, interaction bet�een laser radiation and matter, laser treatment of materials, laser methods for creation of nanoparticles, etc. Graduates also acquire significant kno�ledge and skills in the field of contemporary communication systems and especially in optical communications as �ell as in the ne�est technologies for optical recording and storage of information. Graduates can �ork in high-tech companies, test laboratories, sci-entific institutes and laboratories in the area of Physics and related sciences (Chemistry, Biology and Geology) that use optical methods and technologies. Geography•Students obtain good theoretical and applied kno�ledge and

acquire professional skills, enabling them to be hired successfully as employees in the state, regional and municipal administration associated �ith the management of land and �ater resources, to �ork as professionals in the management of protected areas, in research institutions, in specialized organizations and companies (research, design, tourism, hydro-meteorological services, etc.) or to �ork as experts in NGOs.

Ecology and Environmental Protection•Students obtain basic kno�ledge and skills to perform all tasks

that require such educational degree at the national and regional level. Graduates from this BSc program can successfully realize themselves as scientists in scientific and educational institutions and as experts in environmental protection in different administrations (state, regional and municipal), production companies and service offices. They could perform various tasks in the field of ecology and environmental protection.

Mathematics•Students obtain fundamental training in mathematics and pro-

found kno�ledge and competences for solving mathematical prob-lems. They can realize themselves as experts in financial institutions and companies that conduct scientific and applied research in the area of optimization of production, statistics, prognostics and applica-tion of mathematical methods in modern economy. Student can ob-tain professional qualification „Teacher of Mathematics“ during the 4-year course of study in the BSc program and after that to �ork as teachers.

Informatics (Computer Science)•Offers a qualified training for prospective experts in Informat-

ics that can apply their kno�ledge and skills in the areas of science,

Mathematics and Informatics•This BSc program prepares qualified experts that can success-

fully apply their kno�ledge and skills in the areas of education, sci-ence and culture. Students obtain fundamental preparation in mathe-matics and informatics. They are acquainted �ith the ne�est technol-ogies for multimedia education in accordance �ith the development of modern educational technologies, trends and strategies. Special attention is paid to the psychological, pedagogical and methodologi-cal preparation, connected �ith realization of the graduates as teach-ers of mathematics, informatics and information technologies. Gradu-ates obtain a BSc diploma �ith professional qualification „Teacher of Mathematics and Informatics“.

Physics and Mathematics•This BSc program prepares teachers of physics and mathe-

matics that should kno� ho� to organize and conduct training and educational process in physics, mathematics and integrated �ith courses in physics class and extracurricular forms of �ork and the �ork of class leader. Ho�ever, they should be able to discover and develop creative abilities of pupils necessary for solving scientific, industrial and other problems, to properly orient pupils to future career, to develop their experimental, practical and intellectual skills. Graduates of this BSc program should also kno� ho� to conduct experiments, to serve instructional laboratory and microprocessors.

Chemistry and Physics•This BSc program prepares professionals �ho possess extensive

theoretical and applied proficiency and can �ork at all levels of the education system as teachers in �Chemistry and Environmental Protection�, �Physics and Astronomy�, and �The Man and Nature�. Moreover, they can successfully operate and occupy responsible positions requiring specific skills in research and manufacture in public and private enterprises as �ell as in non-profit organizations, laboratories, etc.

Geography and History•Main aim of education in this BSc program is graduates to be

prepared on a high scientific and methodological level for teaching Geography and History at Bulgarian schools according to the State Educational Requirements for different classes. MASTER (MSc) PROGRAMS

Contemporary Energy Sources and Environment •ProtectionOne-year duration for students graduated from bachelor

programs in professional area of Physics, and t�o-year duration for students graduated from bachelor programs in other professional areas. The program prepares specialists for �ork in environmental laboratories, companies that use alternative energy resources,

Energy Management and Sustainable Energy •Development This program prepares qualified professionals �ith kno�ledge

for specific characteristics of different types of energy, for possible methods of reducing losses in its transformation, about methods and techniques to improve energy efficiency and environmental protection. Students are taught about principles of effective management of energy costs (�Energy Management�), role and �orking methods of energy service companies �ith guaranteed results (so-called �ESCO companies�) and to carry out investigation on energy efficiency of industrial plants (�Energy Audit�). The program has one-year duration for students graduated in professional areas of Natural sciences, Mathematics and Computing, and Engineering, and t�o-year duration for graduates of other BSc programs. Graduate students can �ork

as professionals and managers in energy, infrastructure and utility companies, as experts, managers and consultants in the public administration and NGO’s, in divisions of the Sustainable Energy �evelopment Agency (SE�A), in laboratories for environmental protection, base stations for environmental monitoring, in companies performing energy audits and using unconventional energy sources. They may occupy positions of experts in scientific organizations, physicists, designers of energy installations, heads of laboratories, research associates, assistants and lecturers at research institutes and universities after successfully passing competition.

Nuclear and Particle Physics•One-year duration for students graduated from BSc programs

in professional areas of Physics or BSc programs of Physics & Mathematics, Chemistry & Physics in professional area �Pedagogy of Education in…�, and t�o-year duration for students graduated from bachelor programs in other professional areas. Students graduated from this program, acquire fundamental and specialized kno�ledge in the area of physical problems of atomic and nuclear physics, theory of the atomic nucleus, particle physics, relativistic physics, cosmic rays, nuclear reactions, etc. �uring their studies the students acquire also theoretical and applied kno�ledge and skills in microprocessors, computer architecture, computer modeling and WEB design, communication and information technologies. Graduated students can occupy positions in scientific institutes and laboratories �hich use physical methods in the area of nuclear physics and particle physics.

Biologically Active Substances and Drugs•This program prepares students familiar �ith the chemistry of

biologically active substances, their mechanism of action, synthesis, properties and principles of drug design. Graduated students can �ork in pharmaceutical industry, research laboratories for creation of ne� drugs, analytical and clinical laboratories, in trading companies specialized in the supply of drugs and biologically active substances.

Metrology in Chemistry•This program prepares experts �ith kno�ledge about the basic

aspects of analytical chemical and metrological terminology, major types of measurement and calibration techniques and their main characteristics, principles and procedures used in chemical analysis and characterization of chemical compounds, principal instrumental techniques, including atomic and molecular spectroscopy, chromatography, analytical electrochemistry; principal techniques of sampling and sample preparation, mathematematical methods in measurement data evaluation.

Chemistry and Ecology•This program is focused on the chemical pollution sources,

their ecological separation, degradation, deposition and influence on the living nature. Special attention is paid to the modern alternative energy sources and their practical application, development and application of advanced analytical methods for chemical contaminants measurement.

Regional Development•This program provides theoretical and practical education

�hich allo�s successful professional realization in all spheres and activities, connected �ith the different regions and their sustainable development. The training is directed to�ards raising the professional competence and the development of skills for making strategic and tactical management decisions, �ork on business management programs in the field of regional development, performance of research activities, and development of creative skills for teaching and expert activity.

Ecology and Environmental Protection•This program provides both theoretical and practical education

�hich allo�s professional positions in all spheres and activities, connected �ith the environmental protection � experts, state

Information Technologies in Ecology• (professional area „Earth Sciences“)This program is aimed at profiling and enhancing the training of

students �ith Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Ecology and Environment Protection, Biology, Biology and Chemistry, Geography and Biology and Ecochemistry, in the area of application of information technologies in Ecology and environment protection.

The program helps the students to acquire specific skills in the protection, prediction, and management of different types of models and their applications in the sphere of natural and humanitarian sciences and for the development and implementation of respective EU funded projects. The graduates could find their professional

Natural and Historical Heritage•

This program is aimed at profiling and enhancing the training of Bachelor specialists in the area of natural and historical heritage as a resource contributing for the development of tourism, �ith a vie� to exercising guided tour operator activity. Students acquire skills in the preservation and management of natural, cultural and historical heritage for the development of different types of tourism � educational, leisure, ecotourism, alternative, rural, cultural, religious; and for the development and realization of certain EU funded projects. The

extensive general and specialized culture that provides this training ensures graduate students competitive position at the tourism market in Bulgaria, �here tendencies in recent years are to visiting sites of natural and cultural heritage.

The �ell-trained specialists can rely on finding employment at the tourist service market as �ell as at state, regional and municipal administration and hold positions related to management, rational use and preservation of natural and cultural heritage as a prerequisite for a stable tourist development. Graduate students �ill be able to operate as managers of tourist services related to the development and maintenance of ne� programs and tourist destinations, or as guides and animators of tourist services, conduction of specialized lectures for single sites or routes of cognitive and environmental tourism. Thus they �ill expand their opportunities for alternative realization or complementary employment, �hich is particularly important for students from small to�ns in regions that have a significant, yet untapped potential for the development of various kinds of �gentle” tourism.

Economic Mathematics•Educational process is �ithin t�o or three semesters, depending

on the BSc background of candidates for this MSc program. Gradu-ates of this program are prepared to �ork as heads or members of expert teams, �hich can optimally model and solve logistic problems in companies, as representatives or managers of companies for sta-tistical analysis and data processing, as financial analyzers in banks and other financial institutions, as managers in insurance companies, etc.

Informatics•This program is a continuation of the BSc program in Informat-

ics and provides a high-level training and profound kno�ledge in the area of Informatics, as �ell as formation of affinity and ability for in-dependent research. Students graduated in this program can suc-

models and systems, information products in various areas of busi-ness, evaluation of systems and development of models for evalu-ating the financial risk of financial markets, insurance, etc., as �ell as provides opportunities for research in various areas of business informatics and econometrics.

Computer Systems and Technologies•This program opens up a �ide range of career opportunities in

industry, commerce and academia, including soft�are engineering, �eb design, system administration, net�ork administration, database administration, information management consultancy, IT projects management, IT security management, etc.

Technology of Teaching Mathematics and Infor-•

maticsThis program is continuation of the BSc program in Mathematics

and Informatics, and it provides high-level education and profound kno�ledge in the area of teaching mathematics and informatics as �ell as ability for independent research in this area.

MSc degrees is a prerequisite for study at PhD program.

PhD PROGRAMS

Inorganic Chemistry•The purpose of this program is to prepare highly-qualified spe-

cialists �ith competences in the field of inorganic chemistry. The top-ics of the Ph� studies developed in this program are mainly focused in t�o fields: synthesis and characterization of ne� nanomaterials as potential catalysts or electrocatalysts, and �evelopment of innovative technologies for ecological energy production � fuel cells and elec-trolysers for hydrogen (both chemical and electrochemical ones).

Organic Chemistry•This program has a strong focus in synthetic organic chemistry.

Cartography and Thematic Mapping•The training in this program is associated �ith a detailed mapping

investigation on a current problem from the field of geography, ecology and environmental protection. �ue to the increasing role of the information in digital form and the objective need for exchange of

Ho�ever, GIS technology has entered the long-established tradition in the cartography. The utilization of the mapping methods for research and analysis in the digital environment is the main focus of this Ph� �ork.

The Ph� students �ho complete this program are trained specialists highly skilled not only in the professional field �Earth Sciences” but also in the field of scientific research and in the scientific and educational �ork at the universities. The Ph� students �ho have successfully defended their thesis can carry out independent researches or participate in research teams �orking on research projects. The graduates are also able to carry out expert activities, participate in the �ork of scientific Councils, seminars, conferences, etc.

Mathematical Analysis•Ph� students are taught in the area of applied mathematical

analysis, numerical methods Monte Carlo and quasi-Monte Carlo, and their applications in various scientific branches. Scientific research is in t�o main subareas: uniform distribution of sequences and nu-merical methods Monte Carlo and quasi-Monte Carlo. Quantitative measures for uniform distribution of sequences, a construction of lo�-discrepancy sequences (linear, quadratic, polynomial algorithms) are studied. The errors of Monte Carlo and quasi-Monte Carlo algorithms for solving multidimensional integrals of various functional classes of integrands are also studied, and different relations and applications of uniformly distributed sequences in the theory of quasi-Monte Carlo integration are considered.
