  • Why take the PSAT? A timed-test that gives students practice for the SAT.

    An interactive PSAT/NMSQT Score Report that includes detailed answer explanations, level of difficulty and study plan.

    AP Potential List used at Grassfield High School to “recruit” and “advise” students to enroll in AP courses.

    Helps prepare students for the SAT and provide a baseline score from which they can improve.

    The PSAT is administered every October at Grassfield High School; registration opens in September.

    ADVANCED PLACEMENT College level textbook with a minimum of 8-10 pages of reading per day. Students must be able to read for content without continual guided instruction.

  • Advanced Placement (AP) Exam Credit • AP exams are scored from 1 to 5. A “3” is considered a passing score and each

    college awards credit differently. • Search the name of the college and “AP exam credit” to determine the number

    of credits awarded per exam score. • The current exam fee is $94. Fee waivers are possible for students who receive

    reduced lunch- see our ACCESS advisor for details! • CPS provides the textbooks for students in AP courses. • AP exams must be taken at very specific dates and times. • CLEP exams could be an option for students who may not be successful on the

    AP exam- ask your AP course teacher for more info.

  • Dual Enrollment Credit • Students in Dual Enrollment (DE) classes are enrolled

    both at TCC and at their high school and receive credit at both institutions.

    • Students must pass a placement test (offered at GFHS in the spring), submit acceptable SAT scores on Critical Reading AND Writing to enroll or GPA optional (please see TCC for details)

    • Most colleges accept DE credit for general education courses or electives.

    • Courses are meant to prepare students for the experience of an actual college course

  • Extracurricular Involvement • Don’t wait until the end of your Junior year to start working on your resume!

    • Join extracurricular clubs and activities that really interest you.

    • Find your passion and contribute to the community! (feeding the homeless, animalshelter, marine science museum, hospital volunteer)

    • Colleges are looking for the quality of the commitment to the organizations that astudent is involved. It is better to have one club that allows you to grow into a terrific leader than 5-6 that you simply pay dues and have your name on the roster.

  • Requesting Letters of Recommendation from Faculty

    • Contact the teacher in person to request a recommendation before summer vacation or as soon as you return for your Senior year.

    • Always give two weeks notice and include a Brag Sheet/Resume

    • Always check the box that states you WILL waive your right to see the letter

    • Always check back to see that the letter has been sent before the deadline

    • Thank the teacher for your letter

  • Early College Scholars Program • Program to encourage students to earn college credits in high

    school and potentially save a semester in college and $5,000 in college tuition.

    • Students sign an agreement through the guidance director.

    • To qualify for the Early College Scholars program, a student must: • Have a "B" average or better; • Be pursuing an Advanced Studies Diploma; and • Take and complete college-level course work that will

    earn at least 15 transferable college credits. • Plan on attending a 4-year college or university.

    each year in November/December

    • Chesapeake Public Schools hosts a College Fair every October
