Summer is the perfect time for students to reap the many rewards of independent reading. As educators, we realize the importance of reading throughout the school year and would like to encourage reading during the summer as a way for students to maintain reading levels and skills they have acquired within the school year. More importantly, we hope that by encouraging independent reading, students will experience the many joys of reading and become lifelong readers and learners. As such, the Clifton Public Library has chosen book titles for summer reading that will appeal to a variety of student interests. Students entering grades 1 and 2 are required to read at least one book from the appropriate list and complete the summer reading experience organizer. We invite you to share the summer reading experience by reading to your child, with your child, or by simply letting your child read independently. Teachers will review with students the requirements for summer reading. Information can also be found on the Clifton Public Schools website, www.clifton.k12.nj.us. The summer reading experience organizer should be returned to the classroom teacher by September 7, 2018. We strongly encourage students to read additional selections from the list to foster a life-long love of reading and invite them to wonder, imagine and explore life’s endless possibilities. We would like to extend our appreciation to you for your anticipated cooperation in encouraging your children to read. Happy Reading! 2018 Elementary Summer Reading Assignment (Students Entering Gr. 1-2)

June 2018

Dear Parents/Students,

Summer reading has been a tradition and benefit for Clifton students in grades one to twelve

for many years. Summer is the perfect time for students to reap the many rewards of

independent reading. As educators, we realize the importance of reading throughout the school

year and would like to encourage reading during the summer as a way for students to maintain

reading levels and skills they have acquired within the school year. More importantly, we hope

that by encouraging independent reading, students will experience the many joys of reading

and become lifelong readers and learners.

As such, the Clifton Public Library has chosen book titles for summer reading that will appeal to

a variety of student interests. Students entering grades 1 and 2 are required to read at least

one book from the appropriate list and complete the summer reading experience organizer. We

invite you to share the summer reading experience by reading to your child, with your child, or

by simply letting your child read independently.

Teachers will review with students the requirements for summer reading. Information can also

be found on the Clifton Public Schools website, www.clifton.k12.nj.us. The summer reading

experience organizer should be returned to the classroom teacher by September 7, 2018.

We strongly encourage students to read additional selections from the list to foster a life-long

love of reading and invite them to wonder, imagine and explore life’s endless possibilities.

We would like to extend our appreciation to you for your anticipated cooperation in encouraging

your children to read.

Happy Reading!

Educationally yours,

Dr. Valerie Kropinack
