Handwriting
and spelling
LO: Words
with the /s/
sound spelled
with sc
Your spellings today are ascent and descent.
Write the above word 3 times each using your best, joined handwriting then put them
into a sentence. Make sure you are using them correctly.
Can you find any synonyms and antonyms?
Word of the
Day:
English
LO: To plan the
opening of a
story.
In this lesson, you will watch the opening of the story and order the key moments. You
will plan precise vocabulary for each part, before practising full sentences out loud.
This part of the writing process will allow you to think about how you would like your
story to start, how you are going to grab your readers attention and make them want
to read on. It will help you think about the description you are going to use to paint a
picture with your words. It is a good time to set your scene and introduce your
characters.
Watch https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-plan-the-opening-of-the-
story-c4rpad?activity=video&step=1 and complete all the learning. Make sure, when you
finish today, you have a detailed plan for your story opening as you will be writing it on
Monday next week. Keep your plan safe.

Reading focus: Read your reading book or a book you are enjoying at home for 20 mins. You could also
log onto Reading Planet and read a book that had been assigned to you. Remember, they
have fun questions and quizzes too 😊
Maths
LO: To solve
three 1 digit
multiplication
equations
In today's lesson, we will be multiplying three 1-digit numbers by each other by
exploring the associative law. The types of questions you will be thinking about involve
multiplying more than two numbers together, for example, 7 x 8 x 2 =

LO: Use
different
hardnesses of
pencils to show
line, tone and
texture.
In this lesson, you will find it helpful to have different grades of art pencils. Not
everyone has these though so, instead of different grades of pencil, you can just use a
HB pencil and practise applying pressure to achieve different effects.
Pencils are divided into four main groups:
• B stands for "black". These pencils are soft.
• H stands for "hard".
• HB stands for "hard black", which means "medium hard".
• F stands for "firm".
This video explains the different types of pencils and , if you have a set, you might
want to try them out now - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDnjXUiEzqI
I would like you to experiment with your pencil or pencils today and see how many
shades, from light to dark that you can create.
Remember, using different amounts of pressure on the pencil will give different result.
You could try drawing and shading an item in your house, such as an apple or a vase, and
see if you can recreate the light and dark areas using only pencil.
I have also included a sheet with drawing techniques for you to practise at the end of
today’s home learning.
Outdoor PE During PE this week, I would like you to get active!
We are holding a whole school challenge that I would like you to take part in. This week
it is how many star jumps can you do in one minute. Remember to send your score in on
Class Dojo to be added to the record sheet. Let me know how many of this week’s
challenge you manage to do.
Or, if you can, go for a walk and enjoy some fresh air 😊
