    JPYM Goes Campus Youth Ministry

CALLED TO BE SAINTS,PROPHETS AND KINGS

The Jaro Parish Youth Ministry(JPYM) Council startedreestablishing the Campus YouthMinistry at Jaro National High Schoollast February 7, 2014.

In order to gather the young peopleand invite them to join the ministry, wehave a JAM (Jesus and Me) Session (JAM)every Fridays on this month of Februaryexcept last February 14 as we had a TaizePrayer.

The JPYM (Yeshua) Band renderedsongs that other students enjoyed asthey joined in singing.

During our irst session, we re lectedon the theme Love and Friendship. Oneof the songs that we have re lected uponwas Just the Way You Are of BrunoMars. We have relared this to what waswritten 2 Timothy 2:22, I praise you

for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.Wonderful are your works, my soulknows it very well.

On our second JAM Session, we have re lectedwith the theme, Hope and Faith. We allow thestudents to participate in our energizer song,The More We Get Together; in our game, Minuteto Win It, which they enjoyed the most; and welet them write their original pick-up lines. As thefun went on, the Yeshua Band sang songs. One ofthe songs played was Lord Patawad of Basiliowith which we re lected upon Mt 6:14-15, For ifyou forgive men when they sin against you, yourHeavenly Father will also forgive you. But if youdo not forgive men their sins, your Father willnot forgive your sins.

For our last JAM Session, we have reflectedupon the theme of Discipleship. We invitethe students to follow the Lord by joining theYouth Ministry in their campus and in theirown barangay.

Now, we are looking forward for a fruitfuland successful Campus Youth Ministry. We are

praying that our Lord will touch the hearts of thestudents so that they themselves will becomeyouth ministers of our Church.

On the Year of the Laity (Excerpt from the Primer on the Year of the Laity)

Q4. Who are Christs faithful?Christs faithful are those who, sincethey are incorporated into Christ throughBaptism, are constituted the People ofGod. For this reason, they participate intheir own way in the priestly, prophetic, and kingly of ice of Christ. They arecalled, each according to his or herparticular condition, to exercise themission which God has entrusted to theChurch to ful il in the world. 1 Q5. Who are the members of Christsfaithful?Christ is the Head and Shepherd ofHis Body, the Church. Moreover, bydivine institution, among Christsfaithful there are in the Church sacredministers, who are also called clerics;the others are called lay people. Drawnfrom both groups are those of Christsfaithful who, professing the evangelicalcounsels through vows or other sacred

bonds recognized and approved by the Church, are consecrated to God in their own special wayand promote the salvi ic mission of the Church.Their state, although it does not belong to thehierarchical structure of the Church, thus pertainto its life and holiness. 2 In short, Christs faithful is composed of the laity(i.e., baptized but not ordained), clerics (baptizedbut ordained), and consecrated life (baptized andspecially consecrated).Q6. What is the speci ic role of the lay faithful?Since lay people are deputed to the apostolate byBaptism and Con irmation, they have, accordingto the condition of each, the special obligationto permeate and perfect the temporal orderof things with the spirit of the Gospel. In thisway, particularly in conducting secular businessand exercising secular functions, they are togive witness to Christ. 3 The laity, by their veryvocation, seek the kingdom of God by orderingthem according to the plan of God. They live inthe world... in the ordinary circumstances of

family and social life... to work for thesancti ication of the world from withinas a leaven. In this way, they may makeknown Christ to others, especially by thetestimony of a life resplendent in faith, hope and charity. Therefore, since theyare tightly bound in all types of temporalaffairs, it is their special task to order andto throw light upon these affairs in sucha way that they may come into being andthen continually increase according toChrist to the praise of the Creator andthe Redeemer. 4

angdanan sang pag-antus, pagkasakitpagkamatay sang aton Ginuo.

As baptized Christians, we share inthe priestly, prophetic and kinglyfunctions of Christ. As priests, we are called to offer

yers and sacrifices for our ownctification. As prophets, we areed to teach Christian doctrines toer people and to call for conversionsinners as we include ourselves. Asrers of the kingly office of Christ, wecalled to serve like Jesus who cameto be served but to serve. How faithful are we in exercising our

stly, prophetic and kingly duties andonsibilities? How aware are we of theoral challenges we face in our Churchicularly in our own parish? How areresponding to these challenges?

During the irst communion of thede 3 pupils coming from the different

mentary schools here in Jaro, we haveovered that majority of the parents areyet married in the Church. Moreover,n I celebrate Mass here in theedral during funerals and weddings, in

the barangay during monthly Masses or Mass at thewake, I have observed that many of those attendingthe Eucharistic celebration do not receive HolyCommunion. I understand that they may not havegone to confession; hence, they could not receiveJesus s acramentally.

These realities compel us to do somethingfor the sancti ication of ourselves especially thosewho need spiritual help. We could not remain deafand mute to these situations in which, through theeyes of faith, can be gracious opportunities for us topractice and live our being priest, prophet and king.

We believe that it is not just enough for usattend mass and pray our devotions or to help thosewho are poor and needy but forgetting to respondto what is equally important in our Christian life i.e.sancti ication of ourselves by receiving the gracesof the sacraments particularly the Sacrament ofConfession and Ma trimony.

What do we do when we know that some ofus are already living as couples but have not yetreceived the Sacrament of Matrimony? Do wetake some time to teach ourselves and be humbleand courageous to seek for help so that we can beassisted and eventually receive what we essentially

need? What do we do to our old and sickbrother or sister in our neighborhood? Dowe take time to visit th em? Are we sensitiveand responsive to their needs? What if weerr or we ind others committing grievoussins, do we correct ourselves or admonishone another in the spirit of fraternal loveand care?

Let us always remember that we arecalled to be saints, prophets and kings. Are you ready to embrace this challenge? On our own, it would be difficult but ifwe have God and one another, all thingsare possible!

T ips for Growth 7 Tips to be Anxious About Nothing

Its a tall Biblical orderbe anxious aboutnothing. About 40 million of us struggle to follow thiscommandTo let go of worry involves the mind, bodyand spirit. Here are some practical tips to help you beanxious about nothing. Dr. Linda Mintle Take a deep breath

The opposite of tension is slow breathingso take a deep breath and exhale slowing. Inhalethrough your nose, hold the breath, and then exhaleslowly through your mouth. We do this in Pilatesand it begins to relax the body. Reach out to someone

Have a conversation. Anxiety can be triggeredby loneliness. Call someone. Talk to your minister,a counselor or friend. Human connection lowersanxiety. Burn off anxiety through exercise

It works. No matter how uptight you feel, ahard workout calms the body.

Learn to soothe yourself It is important to know how to calm

your body. A hot bath works for me. Forothers it might be a heating pad, massage, cup of hot tea, etc. Use music to calm your soul.

Put on a relaxing CD and unwind.Close your eyes and be swept away. Distract yourself.

Escape through a good novel (or theBible) or TV show. Both are distracting andgive a racing mind a break. Live in the moment.

Anxiety is usually about what mighthappen in the future. Stay in the moment.

Sa Pagsaulog sang Tuigan nga World Migrants Day Claire U. Dignadice

Kada tuig ginaselebrar ang WorldMigrants Day.

Nagapabilinmga pamangkutanon, ayhan mangin

madinalag-on okon ayhan mangin masubo ang ilamadangatan? Nagapa-abot sang kwarta parasa edukasyon sang kabataan kag iban pa ngakinahanglanon.

Sa iya natun-an sa kabuhi, pwede man nga mangin madinalag-on bisan diri lang kita.

    Pureza D. Lacuesta

There was a time when the darkclouds of crimes, vices, power abuse, and sel ish ambitions, hovered overthe City and Province of Iloilo and peoplewere afraid of what the next minute wouldbring. Fear and doubt reigned supreme.

After a long period of brain struggle,a solution came into view. It neededintelligence, understanding, faith andcourage, but it opened the gates totransformation and reform. Religiousorganizations dedicated their time andcomfort to social, physical, moral andspiritual change and practice.

Every Sunday, the Cathedral wereilled with adult and young workers in the

vineyard of the Lord. Followers of the Lordfrom all walks of life, assembled to plan, discuss and put into action what is bestfor the improvement of our life. Some ofus were not only followers or disciples many have become apostles of God.

When I went to the city one day, ridingin a taxicab, the driver tuned on the radioand I was surprised but glad with theannouncement. The speaker, whose name Idid not know, was explaining the beauty ofthe Holy Rosary. He explained the differentmysteries and what the prayer could do totransform and reform us. Isnt this a bigimprovement in our Christianity?

When I was in the city, a lady friend

told me that the employers a Lending Agency, the OCS, has just finished hearing Mass in theirreceiving room. She said that the lady manageris a devotee of the Blessed Virgin Mary and theChild Jesus, and that there are images of both ofthem in the receiving room. Some of their clientsand friends were with them. Another score inspiritual improvement.

When I gave copies of Candle Light to a groupled by Edwin Daulo, I was told that they are nowpropagating the devotion to Jesus of Divine Mercyin different barangays. What a beautiful apostolate. Now, the Blood and Water from the Heart of Jesuswill wash away the dirt of sin.

Here in Barangay Balabag, Pavia, the Kagawadsheld a conference on how to make the communitya nice place to live in, with brotherhood andcooperation as the theme. What an inspiring agenda. There is an old, broken chapel near Providencewhich they plan to rebuild so that Masses, catechesisand religious conferences could be held there. Theyinvited some residents to the meeting, some of mydaughters were there. If plans go through, I shallconduct Values Formation Seminars in order toemphasize Christian Values. Mayor Mike Gorricetahas already approved of my plan. He asked for theformat and I shall give it to him as soon as possible.

Educational institutions are also joining in thestruggle for moral improvement. The University ofSan Agustin will have an election of student leadersin the Elementary Grades one of these days. Theywere told to make a slogan to identify their party.

Hannah Khrissa de Jesus, a candidate forthe presidency was guided by her teacherto choose:

S-tudent M-odelA-ugustinianR-esponsibleT-eam Work This is not just educat ional

and leadership t raining; i t ischaracter formation.

Pavia High School is training thestudents to lead prayers and to conductthe Philippine National Anthem duringconvocation programs and specialoccasion activities. Correct conducting ofthe Lupang Hinirang must be taught.

Student leadership seasoned withChristian Values will gradually implantthe seeds of Christianity in young heartsand will develop their courage to face thefuture.

We are inviting everyone to dothe apostolate wherever they are. Letsstart in our home-branch out into thecommunity, and through our prayers, ourcourage and our faith- love the apostolate live the apostolate and put God irst inour life. Be an apostle, not just a disciple.

Can you see the bright horizonof change? Its not far. Its there inyour heart!

    God or Mammon

H ave you noticed that everyoneseems busy and always rushing, streets are jam-packed withfast-running vehicles, people aroundare all in a hurry to catch up with time, with transportation, with business, etc.Their minds and hearts are focused onstatus symbols, signature brands, gadgets, etc. Each one dreams to berich and be popular.

These wants never stop. All thesedesires are worldly. Some own several

mansions, cars of different models, motor cycles, expensive signature bagsclothes, shoes, etc. When these thingshappen, it is dif icult to serve twomasters: God and mammon.

One master commands us toaccumulate riches that are on earth;the other One commands us to seek forthings essential, permanent and eternal.I once read the life of Aristotle Onassis, the famous billionaire who marriedJacky Kennedy. O nce in a while Aristotlewould go back to his hometown, a littletown in Greece. He did this secretly, because he was visiting his mother whoremained in their hometown, humblyliving a poor and simple life. She was

convinced by her son to live with him, of coursein luxury, but she refused.

There are others whose passion is to get richbut acquired these through illegal activities. Theyenjoyed their riches at the expense of others. Forthem it brings joy and happiness and ful illmentof life here on earth. They enjoyed their lives somuch and become absorbed in their riches thatthese become their master already. What joy andhappiness could it bring them when they forgetto seek something eternal? When they die, canthey bring these wealth with them? Because ofour attachment to material wealth, our imageas sons and daughters of God is sometimesmarred. Some of us are no longer faithful to

our identity as creatures created inthe image and likeness of God. Some ofus became insane, foolish, murderers, rapists, corrupt, etc. that we have failedto respect our dignity and that of others. In the end, we ask: Are we happy? Arewe ful illed?

Our treasure can either be onearth or in heaven. Our spirituallife can either befull of light or ofdarkness, and our master can eitherbe God or mammon (possessions,

earthly goods). Who do you choose? You cannot serve two masters at thesame time with the same degree.

One master commands us to walk byfaith and the other to acquire and enjoythat which is material. One calls us to behumble and the other to be proud. Onecalls us to love light, the other to lovedarkness. They truly oppose each other.Which will you choose as your master,God or mammon? For me, I choose to livepoor and humble so that when the Lordcalls me, I have nothing to worry. For asthe song goes, I, I who have nothing. I,I who have no one, adore You, and wantYou so. Im just a no one, with nothing to give You... but O Lord, I love You!
