Overview

Every few years, the University of Sydney offers students the chance to travel to Rome an undertake a course there as part of their studies. In 2018, the program will be run by Associate Professor Kathryn Welch and Dr Estelle Lazer. The course includes three days of lectures and discussion in Sydney that will prepare you for your studies and your travel. The tour component begins in the town of Vico Equense on the Bay of Naples, our base for exploring the ancient cities close to Mt Vesuvius. We will then make our way to Frascati in the Roman countryside, visiting various ancient sites, including Palestrina, Tivoli and the Alban Hills. On arriving in Rome we say goodbye to coaches and explore all regions of the ancient city. We all of Rome’s major museums and archaeological sites. Assessment will take the form of written exercise based on the lectures in Sydney, to be completed before your departure, site reports based on your experiences in Italy that will be completed during the study tour, and a research essay to be completed during February 2018.
