Colleen is the daughter of Tom and Sue James of Upland and is also my niece. She is one of eight students chosen nationwide by the Coalition for Christian Colleges and Universities to study for a semester in Costa Rica as part of the Latin American Studies Program. -Costa Rica has one of the richest supplies of plant and animal life in the world, making it a prime spot for environmental study. Colleen will leave Monday to study field biology, specifically the different ecosystems in Costa Rica and other parts of Central America. While there she will live with a native family and fur- ther her study of Spanish, as well as Costa Rican culture and histo- 'ry. Colleen and the other stu- dents will study under a combi- nation of American and Costa Rican professors: Colleen grew up in Upland and attended Foothills Elementary School, Upland Junior High School and Upland High School, where she was a member of the honor society, Madrigal singers and Express Show Choir. She won't be back until May and will be greatly missed until then. TALENT IN THE MAKING I hope some of you were lucky enough to attend "We Need A Little Christmas" Dee. 19 and 20 at Mudd Theater in Claremont. This Christmas musical was very professionally produced by the Carly Moultrie Studios of Upland. It was obvious from the start that the singers, who included both adults and children, had received very good voice training from Carly Moultrie, one of the most highly regarded children's vocal directors in the state. Moultrie was joined in producing the musical by her two daugh- ters. Emily Moultrie is a singer, actress and recent graduate of USe's School of Cinema and Melissa Moultrie is an accom- plished Singer, dancer and award- winning choreographer who choreographed the show. The children, who were cos- tumed as clowns, jesters and other toys, sang, danced and tapped to a variety of modern Christmas numbers. All of them were darling and did a wonderful job. A song about Santa, "Too Fat For the Chimney" was especially cute as done by the Lollipop Dolls - Priscilla Aguilar, Alexa Ayala, Jennifer Brown, Kaitlyn Hampton, Marissa Henkel, Spencer Leeb, Chandler Talleur and Alexis Green. A group of older girls (the Barbie Dolls) - Katie Christopher, Audrey Cowie and Christina Pastore - sangr'Santa Baby." A show highlight was a cute rendition of "Side by Side" done by Raggedy Ann, Courtney Franklin, and Raggedy Andy, Ruben Bravo. These two kids did an outstanding job of singing, dancing and tapping in unison. Other entertainers were Brian Hughes, Katie Kujundzich, Morgan Leeb, Erika Pomierski, Drew Sabater, Jordan Simmons, Christopher Stever and Mia Witts. Still more were Brianna Anderson, Carissa Baxter, Brittany Brown, Jillian Chaves, Aryan Talleur and Hannah Winnick.
