“CHAMPIONS OF ACADEMIC AND ATHLETIC EXCELLENCE”
May 10, 2010
Bid Committee Canadian Interuniversity Sport 1600 James Naismith Drive Suite 209 Ottawa, Ontario K1B 5N4
Dear Bid Committee Members,
It is with great pleasure that the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds Athletic Program submits a bid to host the CIS Men’s Soccer Championship in 2013 and 2014.
The University of New Brunswick has a proven track record of hosting quality events including the 2003 and 2004 CIS men’s hockey championships, the 2006 CIS women’s basketball championship, and the 2008 and 2009 CIS women’s volleyball championships. In 2011 and 2012 we will once again host the CIS University Cup men’s hockey championship at the Aitken University Centre.
We believe that one of the most important hosting criteria is to ensure a memorable experience for the participating studentathletes. We will guarantee this by ensuring an exciting environment at the field of play, quality souvenir player packages, and first class treatment during the athletes’ stay in Fredericton.
We are excited about the opportunity to bid for this prestigious event. Our men’s soccer program is one of the top teams in Atlantic Canada and is consistently ranked in the CIS Top Ten. Chapman Turf Field is an excellent facility which was opened in the fall of 2008 and is well equipped to hold such a prestigious event.
Again, thank you for the opportunity to bid and we thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Kevin Dickie, Director of Athletics UNB Varsity Reds

Introduction
The University of New Brunswick and the Varsity Reds Men’s Soccer Program is pleased to provide this bid for the 2013 and 2014 CIS Men’s Soccer Championships. The first year of the bid (2013) will mark the 65 th anniversary of varsity soccer at the University of New Brunswick. Canadian Interuniversity Sport come help us celebrate at the 2013 CIS Championship Tournament!
The University of New Brunswick has a long and strong tradition of hosting successful CIS Championship events. In recent years we have hosted the 2003 and 2004 CIS Men’s Hockey Championships, 2006 Women’s Basketball Championship and the 2008 and 2009 CIS Women’s Volleyball Championships.
The Hosting Committee for CIS Soccer will be compromised of experienced members from our CIS events as well as members of the hosting committees for the 1998 Canadian Soccer Association’s Senior Men’s Challenge Cup, the 2007 Canadian Soccer Association’s U18 National Championship, and the upcoming 2011 Canadian Soccer Association’s U18 National Championship.
The Province of New Brunswick has not hosted a CIS Soccer Championship in thirty years. The one and only time that the University Soccer Championship was played in New Brunswick was in 1980 when the University of New Brunswick defeated Sir Wilfred Laurier in the final under a different championship format.
The beautiful campus of the University of New Brunswick, located in the riverside City of Fredericton, is anxious, once again to host top competitors from across the country in a tournament to determine the title of “Champion” for the country’s fastest growing sport – soccer.
Fredericton is a true soccer community. It is by far the most popular sport for local youth and adults. The City has proven to enthusiastically support soccer activities, including Varsity Reds events.
Along with top notch competition that will be provided by the six participating teams each year of the CIS championships, the key to an exciting, memorable event is having those teams play in front of capacity crowds for every game. On the basis of past performance and current levels of attendance for AUS soccer in Fredericton, the stands will be packed every game.
We invite you to read the following pages to see why we believe that this bid proposal has all of the ingredients – the competitive soccer program, the experienced organizing team, the right size facility in the right size market and the sponsor and fan support base to deliver an exceptional CIS Men’s Soccer Championship in 2013 and 2014.
