Principal’s Message: Happy New Year Cirby families! I hope you had the opportunity to share time with family and friends during our Winter Break. As 2019 begins, teachers and students transition back to school routines after a long break. Teachers know that children want – and need‐ routines. Studies show that families of successful students also have established routines. Repetition of these established routines helps children learn to organize their world. The structure gives them a foundation to help cope with the rest of their lives. Here are some helpful suggestions to establish this foundation: • set a time and place for children to do school work • set a time for children to read at home every day • give children responsibilities in the home • establish a regular bedtime • reserve some special time to spend with your children, 1:1, if possible • recognize that children learn in different ways • establish morning routines so children get to school on time each day We all start the new year with a “clean slate”. Our School‐Wide Expectations ‐ Show Respect, Make Good Decisions and Solve Problems ‐ will be thoroughly revisited in January. In conjunction with this re‐teaching, Lastly, as we embark on this new year together, I would like to thank you for all you do to support Cirby School and student learning – all year long! Mrs. Quinlan

Hello Families,
The California School Dashboard has been publically released, reflecting data from 2018, compared to data from 2017. The Dashboard provides parents and educators with meaningful information on school and district progress so they can participate in decisions to improve student learning. Attached you will find resources to better understand the layout and content of the Dashboard. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
The Dashboard has a New Look (PDF) The 2018 Dashboard has a new look! Dashboard 2.0 is friendlier, simpler to use, and easier to understand. Data Used for the 2018 Dashboard (PDF) A one‐page document explaining what Data will be used for the 2018 Dashboard.
We would like to encourage you to send your box tops in to school with your child. Everything helps.
Absences? – Call 771‐1730 When your children are not in school, we want to make sure they are safe with you so we always appreciate a call the morning of the absence. Absences that are not verified are considered unexcused. The State of California recognizes only illness, medical appointments, and funerals of immediate family members as excused absences. All other absences, including personal business, vacations, etc., are considered unexcused absences. The only exception to this is if students are going to be out 5 to 15 school days. The student and parent need to fill out an Independent Study packet and turn it in to the teacher at least one week before the absence. If your child has 3 or more unexcused absences and/or tardies over 30 minutes that are not for medical reasons, it is the Roseville City School District’s policy to initiate the Student Attendance Review Board procedure with the first letter of truancy. All subsequent unexcused absences and/or tardies will be followed up with truancy letters.
