The Problem

• Conflicts at work are challenging

enough between peers.

• But when power is unequal, such as

between a boss and subordinate,

traditional conflict resolution methods

often fail.

Page 6: Ciq (4 17-13) (recording2)

• Managers spend 30-40% of their time dealing with

conflict−−but get stuck using the same conflict

resolution tactics again and again−−without success.

6

• Often, those in high-power lose. That’s right. They

lose. They don’t achieve their goals or create value.

• Conflicts can choke an organization. The powerful get

frustrated or dictatorial. The powerless lose their

motivation and respect for leadership.

The Cost

Page 7: Ciq (4 17-13) (recording2)

• Leadership failures. Organizational failures.

7

• Erosion of teamwork.

• Increased stress-related illness and sabotage.

• Less honesty, less innovation.

• Power differences are seldom addressed in conflict

resolution training. (It’s a dirty little secret. )

The Cost

11

You can get people who report to

you . . .

• To disagree with you

• To ask tough questions

• To think for themselves

• To offer innovative ideas

CIQ Skills

• To take appropriate risks

What is CIQ Training?

14

We have designed a comprehensive, well-

organized approach:

3. Techniques for implementing strategies

1. A system for analyzing conflicts and

power dynamics

2. Methods for choosing the right strategy

(or combination) for any given conflict
