Agenda
• Business Background
• Project Overview
• User Roles and Permissions
• Site Features
• Next Steps
Business Background
• CIM User Group is one of several groups under UCA– A non-profit service organization– Desires to maximize value for members
• To save you time and money• To share best practices
• Key characteristics– Highly distributed and global– Members are busy professionals
• Work gets done virtually • Work gets done in many small time slices
– Very flat organization with low overhead
• Collaboration tools are critical
Why Sharepoint for Collaboration?
• Microsoft Sharepoint is a leader in the Web 2.0 space
• We have had two previous Sharepoint implementations
Site Project Overview• UCA and CIM Collaboration Goals:
– Web identity for every group within UCA• New logo and site branding for each group• Direct URLs for CIM, TC57, IEC61850, OpenDR, etc.
– Consistent account management• User self-manages profile• Permissions handled uniformly across all sites• Pre-defined roles define authority given on each site
– Improve findability• More use of keywords• Improved search
– Improved email lists and discussion forums– Make learning easy
• Provide a training site• Package key site elements in templates
Key Benefits• More Site Presence and Performance
– Each UCA member site will have its own URL and brand– All sites will have graphic design treatment– Re-hosted to dedicated server for better performance
• More Detailed User Account Management – Using Forms-Based Authentication (FBA) – Expanded configurability of Users, Roles, Groups, and Permissions– Cleaner implementation of Sharepoint security architecture
• Better User Experience– Multi-level, security-trimmed tab navigation– Password retrieve/reset– Content subscribe/unsubscribe– Starting point for better member communications
• Improved Document Searchability– Knowledge Base and Calendar Roll-Up to consolidate key documents– More metadata about documents
• Adding Missing Functionality– Help Desk– Issue Management
Site Accounts• Guests can create
accounts on first visit to www.cimug.mobi
– Username assigned: firstname.lastname(# if repeat)
– Required for downloading documents
– Allows quick start even if corporate payment is delayed
– Interest areas will eventually be used for area-specific communication
• Existing users can login or retrieve their password
• Login/Logout/Profile is all context-sensitive

Understanding Roles• Membership Roles
– Guest– Individual Member – Corporate Member - company or corporation)– Corporate Representative - speaks, votes and handles payment
for corporate member• Site Roles
– Global Administrator – CIM Owner – Each sub-site within CIMug must have an owner,
sufficiently trained– Tester
• Training Roles– Instructor– Student
• Project Roles– CIMdynamics – Project member– CIMforplanning – Project member
Understanding Sharepoint Sites• Sharepoint components:
– Document libraries– Lists– Discussion boards– Image libraries– Surveys– Sites and workspaces
• Sites– Are built with webparts on site pages– Are built more quickly with templates, pre-built
combinations of webparts
• We customize and create templates to meet UCA and CIMug business needs
Understanding Permissions• Sharepoint has four permission levels
– Full Control: least restrictive.• Allows user full control over site installation and post-configuration
tasks
– Design: can view, add, update, delete, approve, and customize.• Allows users or groups to create resource libraries as well as lists and
edit pages on the site, including themes and style sheets
– Contribute: can view, add, update, and delete. • Allows users or groups to add, delete and edit previously created list
items and document libraries
– Read: most restrictive.• Allows users or groups to view and read pages on the site including
the resource libraries
• Permission levels are assigned to roles and thereby to individuals
• Permission settings can be applied at any level, down to an individual file

All previous meetings will be archived to the
Knowledge Base. Current meetings prior to go-live will have a site… then transition to ‘site-less’
meetings (using metadata to store meeting
information in the top-level meetings site).

Calendar and Library Item Roll-UpThe Benefit: multiple levels of groups coordinate calendars and share documents.
(CIMug / IECTC57 / OpenDR etc.)
(CIM for Planning, CIM for Dynamic Models, etc.)
(Dynamic Models Project Task Forces – Modeling, Standard Model, User-Defined Model)
How to Designate Calendar Events
Each calendar item can be designated
for sharing on CIMug or UCAIug.
Roll-Up Examples
Addition of Document Metadata
• Helps improve document “findability”
• Site indexing and search will use this data
Training Site
• Offers self-paced courses to all UCA member groups.
• Tracks your training progress.
• “Sandbox” sites also provided to play and learn.
• Access is identical to other sites.

Project Issues
• Currently under discussion:– How should groups be named? (Working
Group vs. Task Force)– Should we post interim UML models?– How can we integrate discussion threads with
email clients?– How can we manage issues on-line?
Next Steps• Get YOU into the new site
– Currently the development site is www.cimug.mobi – this will soon become www.cimug.org.
– You can sign up there, using a guest account.
– Kay will recognize you and assign roles and permissions.
• Finish out remaining site work• Get feedback from you via the
Help Desk• Launch other dev sites
– IECTC57.mobi– 61850.mobi– OpenDR.mobi
