From The Pastor’s Desk . . . What a joy it is to be in the house of the Lord to worship and praise the wonderful name of Jesus on this Lord’s Day. We pray that the Holy Spirit through the Word of God may help us grow in the Faith we profess and may He give us a sense of unity as we worship and fellowship together. This Evening in the “Reading the Bible Together” program, we will be discussing: The Book of Hebrews. Please support this special service as we come together to learn more about this book and share with each other what we read, and enjoy a meal at the end of the service. Also the next book to be read is the Book of Numbers which will be discussed on 22 November. Further, there will be Prayer services at the beginning of each month at the Evening services i.e. 1 November & 6 December. It will be done in a way that everyone will definitely feel comfortable without praying in groups etc. Prayer Points . . . Let us remember those who need our prayers and may the Lord make us faithful in praying for one another. Pray for those with ongoing health problems, physical, mental and spiritual, that God may place His healing Hands on them and they may know His peace and special touch. We pray for Ineke van Gent; Ava De Zeeuw, Syd & Rita Green, Arie Janssen; Agnes Buddeke; Jim Schokker; Jolly Dykstra; Wilma Rond; Barry Bradfield and Olga Whorley. Pray for Nel Vos, Mien Swaab and Rita Scribante in Aged care and for the nursing Staff who take care of them. Pray for parents who have children with special needs, that God may grant them wisdom, strength and patience. We continue to pray for the various ministries in our Church: The Session; COM; Sunday School; Catechism; the Wambie Youth Club; Ladies Fellowship; Craft group; Bible Study Groups; Solomon’s mission; Scripture teaching; the Green Team and the Music team. Let us continue to pray for boldness for our members to witness for Christ and grow our church for the Glory of God. We pray that God may grant us His joy, peace and strength as we continue to serve Him. God bless and keep you in His loving care. Have a blessed week

sustained and directed by the Lord Jesus Christ. Nobin

The story goes . . . . In a certain mountain village in Europe several centuries ago, a

nobleman wondered what legacy he should leave to people in his town. At last he decided to build them a church building. No one saw the complete plans for the building until it was finished. When the people gathered, they marvelled at its beauty and completeness. Then someone asked, “But where are the lamps? How will it be lighted?” The nobleman pointed to some brackets in the walls. Then he gave to each family a candle which they were to bring with them each time they came to worship. “Each time you are here the area where you are seated will be lighted,” the nobleman said. “Each time you are not here, that area will be dark. This is to remind you that whenever you fail to come to church, some part of God's house will be dark.”

Anyone ready to try saving the electricity we normally use on Sundays? Should we start giving out candles next week? This is just a story but it has a stinging point. Those who seldom, if ever, attend worship or Bible study may be like those of whom it was said: “The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up” (Matt. 4:16). That is, if they happened to see the church building from a distance.

Jesus also said, “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it gives light unto all that are in the house” (Matt. 5:14-15). Attending all services of the church is letting your light shine -- after all you come to worship God and study His word -- then leave to serve.

Maybe it would be good to pray, “You, Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.” (Psa 18:28).

Community FOOD drive Don’t forget to add a couple of extra items to your shopping for the community basket. And don’t forget Christmas is coming up (in case you haven’t noticed the decorations in the shops already). Your help is so much appreciated by those who are doing it tough! Thank you for your continued support.

Helpers needed . . . 1 or 2 . . . This coming Wed - October 28 - for one afternoon only at Wamberal Public School from 3.45 - 6pm for a kids craft club. Everything will be supplied - just the helping hands are needed. Please see Stephen today.

The universe is vast – but according to former Optus satellite designer, Dr Mark Harwood, the universe is perfectly designed to do the job it was designed to do. “The universe is actually a machine,” says Mark, “And like all machines it has to be very precise.” Dr Harwood is back on the Central Coast next Monday night (October 26), this time discussing astronomy by design in his presentation The Heavens Declare. “The precision in the stars is astounding,” he says. “When I look at our solar system there are things that inspire me. There are things that make me wonder. There are even things that make me laugh.” He points to the weird orbits of Pluto and its moons. “I look at them and smile wondering, ‘What are these objects doing?!’ They’re in the wrong place, crossing other planetary orbits. You have Uranus and Venus that spin the wrong way – absolutely fascinating.” Mark is determined to bring the design wonders of our solar system and the universe to the layman. “This is a very easy talk to listen to. It’s not overly technical. And I keep it up-to-date with the latest news, including newly discovered planets orbiting other suns.”

“All of it,” Mark says, “tells me that this universe, our solar system and particularly our home planet, are not accidents from a huge explosion. They are all deliberately designed for our benefit.”

Fairtrade . . . Looking for Christmas gifts with a difference? Back by popular demand, the 2015 Fairtrade Christmas Fair has double the Fairtrade shopping opportunities, more food options, children’s activities and longer trading hours. It’s still an all weather event with plenty of parking, live music and a comfortable, friendly, festival feel. Fairtrade means a fair wage for workers, empowering poor communities, especially women, and combats modern slavery and exploitation. Some of the products available have been made by women rescued from forced prostitution and enabled to start a new life through these projects. Others have been made by projects giving hope to those with a disability or are widowed, in countries without a social security net. We can be part of their story. People around the world have started asking, where has the coffee, clothes, jewellery, toys, chocolate, gift-ware, home-wares that I purchase actually come from? Who is behind the product? As a positive reaction to this, Wyong Baptist Church are holding the Fairtrade Christmas Fair on Sunday November 8 from 4-8pm to give locals easy access to ethically produced goods that are also unique and creative. At the fair the stories of the producers will be readily shared by stallholders, giving those Christmas purchases that something special to add to the gift. Short films and interactive activities will also help those who wish to learn more about the people’s stories behind the products. Doors open 4pm at Wyong Baptist Church, 100 Alison Rd, Wyong. Bring family and friends along for a rewarding night out that can also make a huge difference to others around the world.
