Call to Worship Ten Thousand Reasons

    (Chorus)

Bless the Lord O my soul

    O my soul

    Worship His holy name

    Sing like never before

    O my soul

    I'll worship Your holy name

The sun comes up it's a new day dawning

It's time to sing Your song again

Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me

Let me be singing when the evening comes (Chorus)

You're rich in love and You're slow to anger

Your name is great and Your heart is kind

For all Your goodness I will keep on singing

Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find (Chorus)

And on that day when my strength is failing

The end draws near and my time has come

Still my soul will sing Your praise unending

Ten thousand years and then forevermore (Chorus)

    Worship Your holy name

    Opening Acclamation

Celebrant. Blessed be the Lord who forgives all

    our sins.

    People. His mercy endures forever.

Celebrant. The Lord be with you.

    People. And with your spirit.

    Celebrant. Let us pray.

    The Collect for Purity

    Praying together

ALMIGHTY God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and

from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by

the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you,

and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord.

    Amen.

    Summary of the Law

Hear what our Lord Jesus Christ said.

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your

soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great command-

ment. And the second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as

yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the

    Prophets.

The Collect for the Persecuted Church

O LORD God, whose Son Jesus Christ suffered and died for us and

in His resurrection restores life and peace to all creation; O Lord

God, our Redeemer, Defender, Protector, and Avenger, we pray for

Your people who are victims of violence and hatred and are op-

pressed and injured by their fellow humans. . Give strength and

encouragement to them by Your Holy Spirit. Look upon them and

help us to honor those who are suffering or have died in Your ser-

vice. Comfort their families and give them courage. Thwart the op-

1 To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul; my God, I put my trust in you; let me not be humiliated, nor let my enemies triumph over me. 2 Let none who look to you be put to shame; let the treacherous be disappointed in their schemes. [Antiphon] 4 Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; in you have I trusted all the day long. 5 Remember, O Lord, your compassion and love, for they are from everlasting. [Ant.] 6 Remember not the sins of my youth and my transgressions; remember me according to your love and for the sake of your goodness, O Lord. 7 Gracious and upright is the Lord; therefore he teaches sinners in his way. [Ant.] 8 He guides the humble in doing right and teaches his way to the lowly. 9 All the paths of the Lord are love and faithfulness to those who keep his covenant and his testimonies. [Ant.] Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, And to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, World without end. Amen. [Ant.]

    The Sermon

    Nicene Creed

Let us confess our faith in the words of the Nicene Creed:

    Celebrant and People

WE believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven

and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible.

WE believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally

begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God

    from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father;

through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, he

came down from heaven and was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and

the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified

under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the

third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he as-

cended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his

    kingdom will have no end.

WE believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who pro-

ceeds from the Father [and the Son], who with the Father and the

Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the

    prophets.

WE believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowl-

edge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resur-

rection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

    The Prayers of the People

LET us pray for the whole state of Christ’s Church and the world.

ALMIGHTY and ever-living God, in your holy Word you have taught

us to offer prayers and requests, and to give thanks for all whom

you have made. We appeal to your mercy, Gracious Lord, that you

    might hear our prayer.

    Reader. Lord, in your mercy,

    People. hear our prayer.

    Socks, Socks, and More Socks!

It may surprise you to know that, according to the various schools in

our community of Riverside, socks are something they always need

    — and never have enough! So Hope4Riverside is collecting

SOCKS. Please bring socks of all sizes from kindergarten to high

school next week and the week after. We will be turning them over

to the Mad River Local School Board for sorting by size and distrib-

uting through the schools in our community as the need arises.

Such a small thing — and something many of us take for granted —

but socks can make a real difference to a child who has very little.

Next week will be the final collection Sunday!!

We bless your holy Name for all your servants who departed this

life in your faith and fear, praying you would grant us grace to fol-

low their good examples, that with them we might partake in your

    heavenly kingdom.

    Reader. Lord, in your mercy,

    People. hear our prayer.

Grant these our prayers, O Father, for Jesus Christ’s sake, our only

    Mediator and Advocate. Amen.

    The Long Exhortation

    DEARLY beloved in the Lord: if you intend to come to the Holy Com-munion of the Body and Blood of our Savior Jesus Christ, you must consider how Saint Paul, in his Letter to the Corinthians, exhorts us all diligently to examine ourselves before we presume to eat of that Bread, and drink of that Cup. For as the benefit is great, if we re-ceive that holy Sacrament with a truly penitent heart and lively faith; spiritually eating the flesh of Christ and drinking his blood, so that we might be made one with Christ and he with us; so also is the danger great, if we receive the same unworthily. For then we be-come guilty of profaning the Body and Blood of Christ our Savior, and we eat and drink to our own condemnation. THEREFORE, judge yourself lest you be judged by the Lord. First, examine your life by the rule of God’s commandments. Wherever you have offended, either by thought, word, or deed, there confess your sins to Almighty God, with the full intention to amend your life; be ready to make restitution for all injuries and wrongs done by you to others; and also be ready to forgive others who have offended you: for otherwise, if you unworthily receive Holy Communion, you will increase your own condemnation. Therefore, repent of your sins, or else do not come to God’s Holy Table. IF YOU have come here today with a troubled conscience, and you need help and counsel, come to me, or to some other priest, and confess your sins; that you may receive godly counsel, direction, and absolution. To do so will both satisfy your conscience and re-move any scruples or doubt. ABOVE all, each of us should give humble and hearty thanks to God, for the redemption of the world by the death and passion of our Savior Jesus Christ. He humbled himself, even to death on a cross, for us sinners who lay in darkness and in the shadow of death;

that he might make us children of God, and exalt us to everlasting life.

BECAUSE of his exceedingly great love for us, our Savior Jesus

Christ has instituted and ordained these holy mysteries as pledges

    of his love,

TO HIM, therefore, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, let us give

continual thanks, as is our duty and our joy; submitting ourselves

entirely to his holy will and striving to serve him in holiness and

righteousness all the days of our life. Amen.

The Confession and Absolution of Sin

We pray to you also for the forgiveness of our sins.

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in

thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we

have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we

have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and

we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have

mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and

walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

The Bishop or Priest stands and says

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who in his great mercy has

promised forgiveness of sins to all those who sincerely repent and

with true faith turn to him, have mercy upon you, pardon and de-

liver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all good-

ness, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our

    Lord. Amen.

    The Peace

    People. And with your spirit.

Then the Ministers and People may greet one another in the name

    of the Lord.

Celebrant. Let us remember the words of our Lord Jesus Christ

and how he said, it is more blessed to give than to receive.

The Recessional Lord, Who Throughout These Forty Days

Lord, who throughout these forty days

For us did fast and pray,

Teach us with thee to mourn our sins,

And close by thee to stay.

As thou with Satan did contend

    And did the vict’ry win,

O give us strength in thee to fight,

    In thee to conquer sin.

As thou did hunger bear, and thirst,

    So teach us, gracious Lord,

To die to self, and chiefly live

    By thy most holy word.

And through these days of penitence,

    And through thy Passiontide,

Yea, evermore, in life and death,

    Jesus with us abide.

Abide with us, that so, this life

    Of suff’ring over-past,

    An Easter of unending joy

    We may attain at last!

    Music: St. Flavian, mel. from Day’s Psalter, 1562;

    The Dismissal

Celebrant. Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.

    People. Thanks be to God.

    13

Because you have given us the spirit of discipline, that we may tri-

umph over the flesh, and live no longer for ourselves but for him

who died for us and rose again, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord,

Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Arch-

angels and with all the company of heaven, who forever sing this

hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

    The Sanctus

    The Prayer of Consecration

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, in your tender mercy, you gave

your only Son Jesus Christ to suffer death upon the cross for our

redemption. He offered himself and made, once for all time, a per-

fect and sufficient sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. He insti-

tuted this remembrance of his passion and death, which he com-

manded us to continue until he comes again. So now, Father ,

we ask you to bless and sanctify, with your Word and Holy

Spirit, these gifts of bread and wine that we may partake of his most

    blessed Body and Blood.

ON the night that he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ took

bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and gave it to

his disciples, saying, “Take, eat; this is my Body which is given for

you: Do this in remembrance of me.”

After supper, Jesus took the cup, and when he had given thanks,

he gave it to them, saying, “Drink this, all of you; for this is my Blood

of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the

forgiveness of sins: Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance

of me.” THEREFORE we proclaim the mystery of faith:

    Celebrant and People praying together

Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

LORD and heavenly Father, with these holy gifts we celebrate the

memorial instituted by your beloved Son, remembering his passion

and death, his resurrection and ascension, and his promise to come

again. Grant that by his merits and death, and through faith in his

Blood, we and your whole Church may receive forgiveness of our

sins and all other benefits of his passion, making us one body with

him that he may dwell in us, and we in him.

And here we offer to you, O Lord, our selves, our souls and bodies,

to be a living sacrifice, through Jesus Christ our Lord. BY him and

with him and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and

glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and forever. Amen.

    19

Hope that lifts me from despair

Love that casts out every fear

As I stand on every promise of Your word

    Not forsaken not alone

    For the Comforter has come

And I stand on every promise of Your word

    Grace sufficient grace for me

Grace for all who will believe

    The Post Communion Prayer

    Let us pray.

    Celebrant and People praying together

HEAVENLY Father, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food

of the most precious Body and Blood of your Son our Savior Jesus

Christ; and for assuring us in these holy mysteries that we are living

members of the Body of your Son, and heirs of your eternal king-

dom. And now, Father, send us out into the world to do the work

you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses

of Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor

and glory, now and forever. Amen.

Prayer for Those in Need of Healing of Any Kind

    The Blessing (Please stand)

THE peace of God which passes all understanding keep your hearts

and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus

Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the

Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you, and remain with you al-

    ways. Amen.

    Every Promise

From the breaking of the dawn

To the setting of the sun

I will stand on ev'ry promise of Your word

Words of power strong to save

    That will never pass away

I will stand on ev'ry promise of Your word

    For Your covenant is sure

And on this I am secure

I can stand on ev'ry promise from Your word

When I stumble and I sin

    Condemnation pressing in

I will stand on every promise of Your word

    You are faithful to forgive

That in freedom I might live

So I stand on every promise of Your word

    Guilt to innocence restored

    You remember sins no more

So I'll stand on every promise of Your word

When I'm faced with anguished choice

I will listen for Your voice

And I'll stand on every promise of Your word

Through this dark and troubled land

You will guide me with Your hand

As I stand on every promise of Your word

    And You've promised to complete

    Every work begun in me

So I'll stand on every promise of Your word 15

The Lord’s Prayer The Celebrant then says

AND now as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to pray,

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass

    against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and

    ever. Amen

The Fraction (Breaking of the Bread)

    Celebrant. Christ our Passover has

been sacrificed once for all upon

    the cross.

People. Therefore let us keep the feast.

    The Prayer of Humble Access

    Celebrant and People praying together

WE do not presume to come to this your table, merciful Lord, trust-

ing in our own righteousness, but in your abundant and great mer-

cies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under

your table. But you are the same Lord, who always delights in

showing mercy. Grant us, therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the

flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ and to drink his blood, that our

sinful bodies may be made clean by his body, and our souls

washed through his most precious blood, and that we may ever-

more dwell in him, and he in us. Amen.
