Polimaster and PolyColour supply speciality colour concentrates for blow-moulding and injection- moulding; Corland makes commodity grade white concentrates. Ampacet is also expanding the capacity of its existing masterbatch facilities in Canada, Thailand and Brazil. Operations at Delta, BC (in Canada) will be transferred to a new 60,000 sq ft site in the same town. The new site will be able to accommodate two new extrusion lines. Ampacet Thailand is expanding its Rayong factory by 30,000 sq ft in order to increase its capacity for making colour concentrates for film, blow-moulding and injection-moulding applications. The expansion will create 30-50 new jobs here. At its Sao Paulo (Brazil) plant, Ampacet will install new production and laboratory equipment for making custom colour concentrates. Also in Latin America, the company plans to open a new sales office in Mexico City. To take advantage of booming demand in China, Ampacet is evaluating options for building a new masterbatch plant, probably in the Shanghai region. Global sales revenue was $500 M last year and the company is forecasting an increase of about 3% this year. These five plants will account for about one-quarter of Cabot’s global carbon black capacity of 1.98 M tonnes/y. Last year, the company had declared that this was a non-core business and put it up for auction. Evidently, no serious candidates came forward to purchase the business. Now Imdex is spending A$1.5 M on an upgrading programme, covering its mineral processing, milling and warehousing facilities at Jandakot (Western Australia). The company’s deposit at Mount Gould is considered to be the largest known deposit of micaceous iron oxide in the world, with reserves of 236,000 tonnes. The Jandakot processing plant currently produces about 6000 tonnes/y of marketable material. Cangzhou Chemicals and the Shenhua group have promised to invest Yuan 500 M in establishing a new wharf for handling up to 900,000 tones/y of liquid chemicals. Jiehong Co already operates a phthalocyanine blue plant in this area. It plans to spend Yuan 60 M on a project for renovating and upgrading its facilities. Ampacet has stepped up its globalcapacity for plastics masterbatch withthe acquisition of three companies –Polimaster (of Italy), PolyColour (ofthe UK) and Corland (of Brazil).Polimaster and PolyColour supplyspeciality colour concentrates forblow-moulding and injection-moulding; Corland makes commoditygrade white concentrates.
