Oh we do like to be beside the seaside…

On Wednesday 10th May, Reception had a wonderful

day out at Blue Reef Aquarium in Tynemouth.

Once there, we explored the various tanks filled with

lots of different types of fish; it was great to hear the

children talking about the different fish that we had

been learning about and using the correct names for

them. We had a rock pool talk with a member of staff

who let the children (and willing staff) have a feel of

different sea creatures.

From there, we had lunch - which the children were

just as excited about - and then headed over to

Tynemouth beach. The children loved being on the

beach and we were very grateful that the sunshine

kept shining the whole day for us. The children would

have gladly stayed on the beach the whole afternoon,

but sadly we had to get back on the bus ready for our

return trip back to school.

The bus journey home was very quiet as you can

imagine - apart from the snoring! The majority of the

children fell asleep with big smiles on their faces and

shoes full of sand.

What a fantastic day was had by all staff and

children… they were a real credit to themselves and

the school. We would also like to say a big thank you to

our helpers who gave up their time to come with us

and help make this day possible.

Girls Football

On Thursday 11th

May, the Girls’ Football Team played

the second round of the Girls’ Football League at

Greenfield. In our first match, the other team started off

really well and scored two goals past us. We played really

well, however, and forced them to concede a free kick

because their goal keeper hand-balled it outside of the

box. Chloe took the free kick, sending it into the box for

Kate to strike the ball into the back of the net! In our

second match, we had lots of chances but unfortunately

didn’t manage to score. The game finished 0-0. See next

week’s newsletter for the report on our final round and

the Girls’ Football Cup. Reporter: Darcy (Year 6)

On Friday 12 May, Nursery took part in

Peppa Pig's Muddy Puddle Walk for Save

the Children and raised £80! A huge amount

of money that will make an enormous

difference to many children around the

world.

Dressed in our wellies and coats we took off

around the school and over the field on our

walk but unfortunately no puddles were

found. This however did not stop us making

our own paper puddles indoors and using

the hosepipe to create many muddy puddles

in our Nursery yard.

We also ate mud cakes (brownies), created

mud pies in the mud kitchen and just

generally had a marvellous muddy day!

So a massive muddy thank you to everyone

who donated and gave their support - make

sure you give yourselves a big muddy pat on

the back! Mrs Harrap

and finally…… Having had good attendance for the last few years, I am afraid to say that our school attendance figures

have slipped of late. Our current attendance for the whole school for 2016-17 is 95.95% (below national

expectation of 96%) - however, in the last few weeks, the whole-school weekly attendance has been as low

as 89.74% this week and 94.21% last week! This has primarily been due to temperatures/chicken pox and

holidays being taken. We really appreciate the support of our parents in ensuring that our children attend

school as fully as possible; good attendance will help your children do well in school, college and - later in

life - at work.

Did you know that:- • Your children can suffer academically if they miss 10 percent of school days or about 18 days. That can

be just one day every two weeks - and that can happen before you know it. • It doesn’t matter if these absences are authorised or unauthorised. They all represent lost time in the

classroom and a lost opportunity to learn. • Attendance matters as early as Nursery. Studies show many children who miss too many days in

Nursery and Reception can struggle academically in later years. They often have trouble mastering

reading to the expected level by the end of Year 2. • Pre-school is a great time to start building a habit of good attendance. Studies show that poor

attendance in preschool can predict absenteeism in later grades. • Too many absent students can affect the whole classroom, slowing down the learning rate for ALL the

children in the class.

Families can make a real difference.

Please avoid taking extended holidays that require your children to miss school.

Where possible, please arrange doctor’s/dentist appointments before or after school.

And remember - you can turn to the school for help. Schools offer services for the whole family.

Very best wishes
