Wow – issue 13; we’re a third of the way through our school year! As we all prepare for Christmas, we’ve again had a great week full of lots of different experiences. Many children took part in the Action for Children concert this week at Liverpool Cathedral. Year 3 wowed their parents as they showed how much sign language they have learned in recent weeks. All of Year 3 and 4 went to Liverpool John Moores University for their kinball tournament, supported by students from Childwall Abbey ‘Can Do’ project and students from LJMU, whilst Year 5 went to Hope University to work with their sports students. Reception children did a wonderful job of retelling the story of Jesus’ birth and we look forward to Key stage 1’s nativity services next week. “And the child grew and became strong; He was full of wisdom and God’s blessings were upon Him.” (Luke 2:40)

Well done to children from all

four houses who have

worked so hard to earn house

points this week.

British Athletics Cross Country Challenge 2019 The British Athletics Cross Country Challenge took place on Saturday 23rd November at Sefton Park and it was a great day for the children to observe international standard in our city but, more importantly, to take part in a quality cross country event. Six of our school cross country runners represented the Liverpool Schools' Team and ran in the U11 category against other Merseyside Boroughs and club teams throughout the country. The conditions at Sefton were extremely muddy; however, in spite of this all of our children demonstrated resilience and determination. Take a look at our children's fantastic results: U11 Girls - 1.9km (115 Runners) Isabella 11th 00:08:05 Millie 29th 00:08:31 U11 Boys - 1.9km (132 Runners) Jack 12th 00:07:27 Max 20th 00:07:34

Boys' LSFA Hub Football Fixtures The Y5&6 Boys' team played their first round of LSFA fixtures at Simpsons ground in what turned out to be very cold and wet conditions. The boys played 6 matches collecting a total of 13 points towards their league score. Good start boys, keep it up! Daily Mile - Yourtrak Results The children have kept up the momentum since starting the Yourtrak initiative 4 weeks ago and have accumulated an incredible amount of miles within such a short period. Have a look at our class results so far:

Class 3 – 421 miles Class 7 – 469 miles Class 11 – 470 miles

Class 4 – 376 miles Class 8 – 506 miles Class 12 – 574 miles

Class 5 - 381miles Class 9 – 551 miles Class 13 – 564 miles

Year 3 Hands Performance A huge thank you to all of our parents and families who came to watch our performance this morning - the children have been practising their signs and songs so hard, and we were delighted with the size of our audience!

10p Book Sale Back by popular demand! Thanks to your tremendous support with our Book Buses, we are ready to replenish our school and class libraries with brand-new, current titles. This means we have a large selection of slightly 'vintage' classics - some well-known, some a bit more obscure - that will need to make way. So, if you have any slummy hanging around, we are holding a 10p book sale in the library every lunchtime all next week where - you guessed it! - every single book will be 10p. The money we raise will go straight back into purchasing more high-quality books for our school. Mr Gillin

Online Safety Guides for Parents and Other Adults This week’s online safety guide (available on our website under Parents’ tab) gives safety tips for children who use smartphones. It contains some great advice for those who may get new devices for Christmas and those who already use a smartphone. The tips aren’t just for children; there’s some useful advice for us all!

Action for Children Concert – Liverpool Anglican Cathedral This Thursday, the choir went to the Cathedral for a special concert called Action for Children. We were collected from school at 2:30pm so that we could get there in time for our rehearsals. When we got there we sat in the order that we were given the previous day. While we waited for our turn to practise, we got to enjoy many other choirs singing. Our choir's first song was’ Hush My Dear’, which was written by Miss Wikeley's brother Johnathan and the second song was ‘Do You Hear What I Hear?’ After our rehearsal, we practised our joint songs with all of the other choirs. They were ‘Away in a Manger’ and ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day’. Then we had a short break and went down stairs to have our packed tea. As we sat down, the Cathedral started to fill up with hundreds of people, ready to hear their Children sing with their choir. After that, we sang ‘Once in Royal David’s City’. Starting off the show, Liverpool Gospel choir sang their two amazing songs. A bit later, we got to sing; Miss Wikeley was very proud of all of the Choir. Finally, at the end we sang our joint songs. All of the choirs were brilliant!

EYFS A huge congratulations to all of the EYFS children for taking part in their first school Nativity. They have worked very hard, learning all of their songs and working as a team. I'm sure you will all agree they were fabulous!! All of the EYFS team are very proud of them. In addition to this we have really enjoyed listening to Percy the Park Keeper stories and talking about animals that hibernate for the winter. We even made our own matchstick hedgehogs! Mr Kildear

Year 4 R.E. As part of our RE topic 'Jesus the Light of the World' this week in year 4, we made our own Christingles. The Christingle is a symbol of Christ's light and love for everyone. The orange represents the world, the lighted the candle is Jesus and the red ribbon is the blood of Christ. The cocktail sticks represent the four seasons and the sweets are the fruits of Earth as gifts from God. We had lots of fun making them and ate a few dolly mixtures along the way.

Wonderful Words! The vocabulary we are learning across the curriculum is incredibly important and we make sure that children get lots of opportunities to say and spell topic-specific words. Each class have given an example of a ‘Wonderful Word’ they have used this week. Can your child explain the meaning of their class’ word to you?

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! We have been busy making Christmas decorations this week. The Ark is looking very festive and cosy!

Food Bank Christmas Appeal! On Tuesday morning, we took our Christmas Food Bank donations to St. Gabriel’s Church in Toxteth, helped by some of our Year 6 children. As always, the church was so grateful to receive them and would like us to pass on their thanks for all that the school does. A huge thank you also from all the staff at school - we could not do any of this without the amazing support of you, our families. Our food bank basket remains outside the school office for anybody who would like to donate any items at any time. After Christmas, we are hoping to collect a number of toiletries and cleaning items, which are also given out to families and individuals who use food bank.

Our attendance figures continue to be affected by the range of winter illnesses currently doing the rounds. Please follow NHS advice to keep children off school for 48 hours following any instances of vomiting and diarrhoea. Let’s hope that everyone is soon feeling better and we can all push forwards for the last two weeks of exciting activities and learning surrounding Advent, and looking forward to Christmas. It’s great to see some of the classes that were affected last week with higher attendance this week; so glad that children who have been poorly are now feeling better. We have noticed an increase in late arrivals through the office in the mornings. Please try to ensure that your child arrives at school ready for learning which begins at 8.55am. Gates are open from 8.40am until 9am so it should be an unusual occurrence for children to be required to sign in via the office after this time. Thankyou.

Our menu for next week is: Monday – Pizza or Veggie Pizza with Herb Diced Potatoes & Vegetables Tuesday – Barbecue Chicken topped with Cheese or Roasted Vegetable Wrap with Savoury Rice & Vegetables or Salad Wednesday – Roast Dinner or Cauliflower & Broccoli Bake with Roast Potatoes & Vegetables Thursday – Spaghetti Bolognaise or Quorn Bolognaise with Garlic Bread & Salad Friday – Fishy Friday or Veggie Fingers with Dip with Chips & Beans Every Day: If children prefer, we also have a selection of sandwiches, hot baguettes, pasta pots, wraps and jacket potatoes available daily. The salad trolley and sliced bread are also available each day, in addition to the selected meal. Children are very welcome to try a small amount of ‘something new’ alongside what they have chosen to try to encourage them to be ‘more adventurous’ in their food choices. Desserts this week include fruity flapjack, chocolate rice crispy cake, fruit crumble & custard, oat biscuit, iced finger, ice cream, yoghurt and fresh fruit.

A reminder of the options for school dinners: 1. Packed Lunch for Junior Children 2. Packed Lunch with Fishy Friday for Junior Children 3. School Dinner Once you have selected an option, this will need to remain the option for the remainder of the half term. This ensures that our kitchen staff are able to order and prepare the correct number of school meals. The cost of a school dinner is £2.00 per day and must be paid for weekly in advance. All infant children receive a Universal Free School Meal.
