WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAYMotor/Outside Motor/Outside Motor/Outside Motor/Outside Motor/OutsideDance Party Indoors or outdoors, turn up the music, use lights or decorations for ambiance, and join your child in twisting, or dancing the macarena, floss, like their favorite animal, or freestyle their way to fun.

Hit the Target Use hula hoops or chalk to designate targets on the ground, then have kids aim bean bags or balls at the targets.

Animal Walk Inside or out, encourage your child to slither like a snake, hop like a frog, gallop like a horse, or walk like a bear on all fours.

In continuation from the morning map activity: Take a walk around the block together, looking for landmarks to include in a neighborhood map. As they get more proficient, encourage them to create maps of imaginary worlds or of places in their favorite books or movies. Treasure Map After drawing a map of a room together, hide a special object somewhere in the room and then point to its location on the map. If they struggle, use spatial language to give clues, such as, “It’s under a pillow” or “It’s inside a cabinet.”

Jump the Brook Lay out two jump ropes, or draw two chalk lines to represent the brook, and have kids try to jump over it. Try making it wider in some spots and narrower in others for a few levels of challenge.

Math Creative Arts Literacy/Language Social & Emotional ScienceMeasuring Activity Measure and compare using your shoes! Have your child use a shoe as a measurement tool. Ask, “Can you show me four things in the room that are shorter than your shoe?" and, "Longer than your shoe?” Use math vocabulary, such as measure, compare, length, shorter, and longer, to discuss the objects your child measures. Literacy: Spend time together with a book/ talk about the book CLICK HERE TO CHOOSE A BOOK

Fizzy Art Fizzy art requires just two simple ingredients: baking soda and vinegar. When combined, baking soda and vinegar produce a (safe) chemical reaction that bubbles and fizzes, much to the delight of children everywhere. Do this with your child and watch their amazing response. Ask them open needed questions like, "What do you think is happening?" and, "Why is it fizzing up?" and, "What do you think will happen next?" Literacy: Spend time together with a book/ talk about the book CLICK HERE TO CHOOSE A BOOK

Word Detective For this activity you and your child will be detectives, trying to uncover the mystery of words. How many words are there in your neighborhood? How many words have the letter “T” in them? Set out with your child to collect clues and discover a whole new world of words. Materials: Something for your child to write with A small notebook or several sheets of paper folded over many times and stapled, to create a mini-book. Literacy: Spend time together with a book/ talk about the book CLICK HERE TO CHOOSE A BOOK

How does this make you feel? With music playing in the background, have your child focus on painting along with the song’s rhythm, while creating a work of art that shows how the music makes them feel. After they are finished, have a conversation with your child on what they drew and why. Literacy: Spend time together with a book/ talk about the book CLICK HERE TO CHOOSE A BOOK

Science Discovery: Fun with Shadows Ask your child if they know what a shadow is. Do they know where they can find a shadow? A shadow is the dark shape made when something blocks light from a light source like the sun, a flashlight, or campfire. Using a flashlight have your child go on a hunt for shadows. Shine the flashlight on different objects. Have your hild watch how shadows appear and disappear. Literacy: Spend time together with a book/ talk about the book CLICK HERE TO CHOOSE A BOOK

WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAYMotor/Outside Motor/Outside Motor/Outside Motor/Outside Motor/OutsideSoccer Instead of playing a real game, just let kids enjoy kicking the ball and aiming it toward a goal or a large cardboard box or laundry basket turned on its side.

Create an obstacle course Use what you have in your yard or home to make it fun. Ideas can include going down the slide, doing five jumping jacks, riding their tricycle in two circles and running across the yard.

Freeze Dance Play some of you child's favorite kid songs. At random intervals, hit pause, challenging your child to "freeze" when the music stops.

Family Limbo How low can you go? This is a fun activity that the entire family can join in to do together inside or outside. Use your imagination when it comes to using objects under which everyone must go under without their hands touching the floor. Objects could include a pool noodle, a broom, or a rope.

Trace the Shadow Go outside and put a large piece of butcher paper on the ground. Have your child put a few of their favorite toys on the butcher paper. Have your child trace the shadow of the item.

Help your child attach one circle to the end of the cardboard tube using a rubberband. Fill the tube up with small rocks or beads. Then place a rubberband on the other paper circle to the opposite end. Tie some different colored pieces of yarn to each end. Now let your child explore music and sound with their homemade rainstick! Materials: Sturdy cardboard tube (from toilet paper or an aluminum foil roll), different colors of paint, large, brown paper grocery bag, yarn, rubberbands, scissors, pipe cleaners and/or craft wire and beads, small rocks or other materials for inside the rainstick. Learn About Mixing Colors. This is a fun activity perfect for a hot day. Using an old ice cube tray, allow your child to pour in different colors of paint and fill each square (use at least 2 or 3 of the primary colors). Allow the paint cubes to freeze for a few hours in the freezer. Once the paint is frozen, take the colorful cubes outside along with a large sheet of butcher paper. Pop the cubes out of the tray and allow your child to paint by on the paper by moving the paint cubes around in the sun as it melts on the paper. When they run together see what colors it makes!
