ANeighbourhood Watch is alocal group of people livingin a neighbourhood of
houses or apartments, part of astreet, a whole street, a neigh-bourhood of streets, or a parish,where they look out for one-anotherin mutual support. The ways peoplemay look out for one-another mightinclude:-● Sharing information and
advice about❑keeping homes safe and
secure❑personal safety❑using the Internet safely❑being aware of scams and
fraud● Being aware of vulnerable
neighbours and watching outfor them
● Looking out for any suspiciousactivities in the area andsharing with neighbours andthe authorities
● Looking out for neighbours’properties when they may beaway, on holiday for example
Anyone can set up a Neighbour-hood Watch: it might be based onsimply you and your neighbours; oryour street; your apartment block,or your parish—whatever suits yourlocality best. You just need a bit of

If you want to set up a localNeighbourhood Watch here aresome suggestions for you to follow:1. Chat to your neighbours about
the idea—perhaps using thisleaflet as a basis. Knock ondoors and say who you are andwhat you want to do.
2. Get in touch with us with an ideaof the numbers you may beinvolving—we can then helpwith some information leafletsand window stickers.
3. Arrange a meeting—in a localpub, someone’s front room, alocal community centre—andwe’ll come and join you for adiscussion about how to moveforward.
4. If you’re setting up a largergroup, involving two or three—orseveral streets or locations—you’ll need to have local streetco-ordinators working with you.
5. Be clear about communicationand information sharing: bypaper, by email, or social media,by telephone—or combinationsof any of these.
6. Make sure you’re linked with theChelmsford Group so we canget information to you and youcan share information with us.Contact us via our website.
