Will You Be a Friend,
In a World That Seems Friendless?
Dear Friend,
I hope that you don’t mind me calling you Friend. You
may think it presumptuous. But, I would like to count on
you as a Friend.
Spring is coming. And this makes me very sad. Why sad,
you may ask. Well, you see, spring is when the demand for
having a new, cuddly puppy or playful kitten is greatest.
The Sad Tale of Noa
Noa was a brown and white French Bulldog. She came
originally from Spain. Unfortunately, for Noa, her life in
Spain was not a happy tale.
She lived on a puppy farm. She was probably born there
She was female; a French Bulldog puppy can sell for
£1,000 in the UK
She carries the chocolate gene. Noa had a higher
chance of giving birth to a pure chocolate puppy.
These rare chocolate puppies are fashionable. They
sell for as much as £2,000.
I met Noa when she was two years old, not much more
than a puppy herself. She had produced at least one litter,
probably more.

The RSPCA seized Noa along with six other dogs, here
in England. No longer any use to the puppy farm, she was
sold.
Her new owners thought they would make money with this
“fashion gene carrier.” But, Noa was worn out. Starving.
She had to fight for her survival. Fight for the smallest
morsel of food. Fighting was the only way to survive six
bigger dogs who were also hungry.
At two years, Noa had lived a lifetime and was quickly
starving to death. Her most prominent feature wasn’t her
beautiful brown eyes but her ribs and hip bones protruding
through her dull, flea infested fur. Her eyes were not
bright and clear but red and swollen, crusted with a green
discharge from a nasty eye infection. She was timid and
cowered away from human contact. You could read the
mistrust in her eyes.
When given a bowl of food her behaviour changed
drastically. She guarded her food and growled, baring her
teeth at any human that came too near. This was a serious
problem.
How could I re-home an aggressive dog?
Unlike you, not everyone considers the full meaning of
owning a puppy or a kitten. The time and the expense. All
puppies and kittens grow up.

Spring is a busy time for Cacklebury Cats and Dogs
Home. Far too often, these cuddly puppies and playful
kittens find neglect, mistreatment, and abandonment, as the
novelty of having a pet wears off.
Cacklebury is committed to caring for lost and sick
pets. And, those pets who know only physical violence. We
provide a haven for all our animals while they await their
forever homes. Some are so traumatised we can’t re-home
them. So, they stay with us, as Cacklebury becomes their
loving home.
We never put a healthy animal down.
Cacklebury cares passionately for the well-being of
all our guests. I am committed to giving them the best life
possible. But, I need you.
Can you be our Friend?
Join Sadie Smith, from Northenders, and Tasha Lipsky,
newsreader, as our Friend.
“I don’t understand people who are
horrible to pets. I love my Labradors,
Loki, and Ollie. Cacklebury Cats and Dogs
Home gives animals the love they probably
never had before.” (Sadie Smith 2014).
