Chapter Annual2014 Everglades Region • Gator Region • North Region • Seminole Region • Sunshine Region

Letter from the PresidentIt is a great time to be a member of the Florida Chapter of CMAA! Whether

you are just beginning your career, just transferring into the Sunshine State, or if you are already a dues-paying member of the Chapter, the ability to engross yourself in the expansive list of offerings has never been greater.

For the last two years, David Colclough, CCM, Immediate Past President, Beth Meister, FLCMAA Managing Director, as well as the Board of Governors and various state committee chairs, have developed programs that exemplify what the Club Managers Association of America is all about: Quality education, professional leadership development, and promotion and advancement of

friendly relations among persons connected with the management of clubs. Our Chapter has seen growth in several areas, such as fi rst-time meeting and conference attendees,

overall summer conference attendance, educational credits earned, Certifi ed Club Managers, Certifi ed Club Executives, and new members to our Chapter. Within that growth is a renewed energy at meetings and conferences that was once present, and I encourage you to come to a meeting or conference and experience it for yourself. All of these successes can be seen at CMAA-managed Clubs.

Many of these successes were tactical initiatives identifi ed in our strategic plan that was developed in 2010. While we have reached most of our goals, we still have work to do. As we enter into the 2014 calendar year, the Chapter will continue to communicate with our members, identify your needs, and provide resources for personal and professional development.

Here are a few things to look forward to in 2014:• Balanced educational offerings that will cover all ten core competency areas throughout the year

• Numerous opportunities for education and networking such as regional meetings, summer conferences, mid-management tours, the Future Leaders Education Programs, and the 2014 World conference in Orlando.

• Not just quantity of education, but quality of education. Through our John Deere Reward Program, the FLCMAA education slate is now able to offer Fortune 500 level speakers in our regional and summer educational offerings. Details of the John Deere program can be found on the FLCMAA website.

• Five regional charity golf tournaments that will continue to raise over $700,000 for charities.

Finally, we have room to grow. I encourage you to reach out to a neighboring Club, to a friend that you have not spoken to in a while, or a member of the Chapter that can help you with whatever issue you may be dealing with. This Chapter is full of great resources, but they will not come to you unless you are engaged with members and utilize the benefi ts FLCMAA offers.

It is a great honor to serve this Chapter, and I am excited for all the memories that we will create in 2014. I sincerely hope to see you engaged with the Florida Chapter!

Thank you all for making FLCMAA a great success!

David L. Whalen, CCMChapter President

Certifi cation ProgramsCMAA takes great pride in its voluntary certifi cation program. Since its inception in 1965, it has become recognized as the hospitality industry’s most respected certifi cation program.

Certifi ed Club Manager(CCM)The Certifi ed Club Manager (CCM) designation is the cornerstone of CMAA’s Member recognition program. It is a valuable and widely respected mark of a manager’s commitment to professional development and the club industry.

The Florida Chapter is proud to announce the following members have attained their Certifi ed Club Manager (CCM) credentials in the last year.

David H. DiRenzo, CCM John Leinaweaver, CCMLoraine Ellis Vienne, CCM Daniel Pella, CCM, CPA, CFEGeorge Hunt, CCM Brent Valdov, CCMKyle R. Kinney, CCM, CAM

Certifi ed Chief Executive (CCE)The CCE designation was developed to recognize managers that have shown the ability to successfully serve as the most senior manager in a club. While the CCM designation is still the “hallmark of professionalism” within the club industry, the CCE designation is meant to augment the CCM designation.

Master Club Manager (MCM)The MCM designation is a certifi cation and recognition program for a special group of professionals who have made extraordinary and long-lasting contributions to the club industry.

Honor SocietyThis achievement is open to club managers who have achieved 400 additional credits beyond certifi cation (minimum 150 CMAA/CMI), 10 years of membership and successful completion of BMI IV or BMI V.

Dr. Bill Quain leads a double life! As a college professor, he was named “Outstanding Teacher” at four business colleges. As a speaker and best-selling author, he travels the world, sharing his ideas on wealth-creation, leadership and personal growth. In both worlds, Bill provides real solutions to tough problems.

He is a graduate of Cornell University, Florida International University, and the University of New Orleans. But, Bill didn’t wait until graduation to build his resume. He owned a hotel at 19, and a restaurant at 20. Later, he was an Executive Chef, Food & Beverage Director and industry consultant. Today, he is a professor of Hospitality Management at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. Along the way, he published 22 books, selling nearly 2.5 million copies worldwide. His books are translated into many languages, including Chinese, Russian and Spanish.

Bill accomplished all these things despite the fact that he has been legally blind since the age of 14. His handicap didn’t slow him down; it made him a massive problem-solver. In his workshops, he shows audience members how to harness their own inner strengths to meet the challenges of business, family and relationships. His favorite motto “If you want to change your life, you have to change your life!” If you are ready for some permanent, powerful and worthwhile changes in your life, join Bill at an FLCMAA event in 2014.
