INSIDE THIS ISSUE

EXECUTIVE VICE CHANCELLOR

Dr. Kay McClenney, Director of the Center for Community College Student Engagement met with the Michigan Community College Association’s Presidents Committee on the use of data to improve student success. The review of her find-ings regarding national initiatives and research on student success serves as a good foundation as work continues on the development of a P-20 data system in Michigan. Tom Howell, Director of the Center for Educational Performance and In-formation, also briefed the committee on the “Docufide” initiative that will offer e-Transcript service to all Michigan public and private high schools and colleges.

Drs. George Swan, Sandra Robinson and Delbert Gray along with Justin Baylor and Professor Gregory Smith met with representatives from the Michigan Film Office, U.S. Department of Labor, and Detroit Workforce Development Department to dis-cuss development of a model industry-standardized training program at the Corpo-rate College at the Eastern Campus. This initiative continues the efforts in the Dis-trict to provide training and preparation for careers in the film industry.

Dr. Swan and James Robinson participated in an “Ideation” session in the develop-ment of a regional energy efficiency program in response to a U.S. Department of Energy request in collaboration with the City of Detroit, DTE Energy, IBM, Johnson Controls, Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, and the Detroit Investment Fund.

This week, the District was very honored to hold a special community Meet and Greet event with newly-appointed Wayne County Sheriff, Benny N. Napoleon, at the Down-river Campus. ♦ The Western Campus is currently increasing the ability to protect students, staff and faculty through an upgrade of the security alarm systems. The original systems were installed in the early 1980’s, and will be updated with modern techno-logy that will allow the campus safety department to more efficiently monitor activities within the campus.

LRC Book Drive September 15-December 12, 2009

Donate your new or gently used books that are geared

towards our student population.

Collection boxes are located in each Campus President’s office

and by the Security Desk at the District Office Building.

If those extra coats and jackets are taking up too much needed space, hold onto them for just a little while longer because soon they can go towards a good cause!

Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to bring new and gently used coats and jackets to the drop off area in the president’s office at each campus. District staff may forward their dona-tions to the Downtown Campus.

Thanks for your support!!

This year in conjunction with the WCCCD Board of Trustees and Chancellor’s Annual Gift of Giving Dinner, we are organizing a coat drive that will kick off ….
